“You’ve got that right,” he said, intertwining his fingers with hers.
Realizing the chaplain was looking at her expectantly, Vanessa loudly said, “I do.”
“And do you, Captain Mark Anthony Wilder, take Princess Vanessa Alexandria…”
“Did you pack that silky nightgown you showed me?” Mark whispered to her.
“Along with my beloved baseball cap.”
“Should make for an interesting combination.”
“I wouldn’t want to clash. Maybe I should just wear the baseball cap and nothing else?” she murmured seductively. “Do you like that idea?”
The chaplain cleared his throat.
“I do! I absolutely do!” Mark declared loudly enough that everyone in the back row heard him clearly. They later commented on how forceful and certain a Marine officer’s voice could sound.
They also commented on how forcefully he kissed his new bride as he took her into his arms the instant the chaplain pronounced them man and wife.
Vanessa only knew that her home was in this man’s arms and that there was nowhere else she’d rather be.
