Likewise the pig has a mind of its own. Of all domesticated animals, the pig is definitely the brightest, and probably the stubbornest and the sneakiest as well. (A few wild creatures — dolphins, whales, and chimps, for example, may be smarter, but you’ll find pig proponents eager to debate this.) Given a chance, the pig will shower several times a day and never soil his living/sleeping area. A pet pig trains as quickly as a kitten, but the litter pan must remain in a consistent place. He’s a stubborn critter, and he dislikes change. In France, pigs sniff out truffles. A trained pig can detect these underground delicacies fifteen to twenty feet away — and they’re about a foot underground! Grampa is wise to let his mini-pig, Ernest, come and go as he wishes, for a pig hates being penned. As a born roamer, he lives to escape. As an infant, he is irresistible.
On to llamas. Yes, they spit often, and for unknown reasons much of the time. Like Ernest, I do not have a favorite llama.
