Megan stared at Paula, wondering where she had gotten that information, considering even she herself had long forgotten it. The first years of her brother’s marriage were not the best years of her life, nor sober.

Paula hid a frown. “Is that all then?” she asked, promising herself to look into this in the future.

“Yes.” Aleando got up, having finished his tea, removing an envelope from his coat. “I came to offer you this. It seems you would appreciate it.” He handed it to her. Paula saw that it was a two First Class tickets to New York. “In case you are not happy with the date, reschedule it as you please.”

“You know that business class is better right?” Paula said, absentminded. Irmina nodded in agreement, much to her surprise. In fact, any time she communicated came off as a surprise. “It’s much more economic, unless you need to work.”

“Consider a treat for yourself and your aunt, Ms. Bianchi,” he said, eying Megan. “Let’s go then. I believe we have stayed here long enough.”

“Goodbye then, Mr. Mitri. And thank you for everything,” Paula said, setting her curiosity aside to show her gratitude.

He nodded to Irmina, who immediately walked behind him like a shadow. As the two walked into the corridor however, Irmina spoke up.

“Is it alright to not tell her anything, sir?” Despite how she looked, Irmina was old enough to remember Sheri Mitri, her friend, who she considered her sister even.

The two shared a lot of history, considering they grew up together. Irmina was the one who had gone in Aleando’s stead to attend Sheri Lindsay’s funeral months ago, when it was too risky to Aleando to reveal himself.

“If she decides to look into it on her own, then in due time,” Aleando replied to his assistant. “But that way lies even more danger. I would prefer if she didn’t.”

“I see, sir,” said Irmina, and they continued to walk in silence. When that time came, she would be at Paula Bianchi’s service, as her sword and shield. She knew Aleando would never compromise on Paula Bianchi’s safety.

He was her godfather, after all.
