Team Love on the Run Box-Set #1

The helicopter circled the clearing, setting down on a wide stretch of grass completely surrounded by trees. The lone cabin at the edge was the size of a single room, and likely her home from now on.
Which didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Cyan had already testified. She’d been protected since that morning which she didn’t want to think about—the last time she’d seen Nate Mason. There was no word in the media about him, and she’d been compulsively checking. Nothing. Not one mention of him after the news broke that he’d been dropped from his contract for a hidden addiction to pain medication he’d been prescribed for his ankle. She didn’t want to believe it, but Cyan had to face the fact she didn’t know him all that well.
Two armed marshals stepped out of the cabin.
The helicopter set down, and she turned to the pilot. “Am I supposed to get out?”
He didn’t say anything. The lone marshal sat beside her. It made sense now to have only been assigned one, given there were five seats in the back of this flying deathtrap. As it was, there was barely enough room for her one suitcase and the guitar that’d been retrieved from Nate’s house. Thank you, Grant. Fluffy Junior had been forced to endure her kitty carry case on Cyan’s lap.
One of the marshals reached back and knocked on the cabin door. It opened again, and he stepped out.
Cyan flung the door open and ducked low as she ran across the grass, wind whipping strands of hair from her braid across her face.
It had been over a year since she’d seen him, and a month since she’d testified against Max Turneau. Did Nate even want to see her? Had he spent this time wishing he could be with her the same way she’d wanted so badly to be with him?
Cyan stopped.
Nate dumped his duffel bag on the steps and hopped down, deferring to his good ankle. His stride was confident, though, and his smile was wide. He walked to her. “Tell me you missed me.”
A sob broke from Cyan’s throat. She burrowed into his arms and cried out all the longing she’d felt since he kissed her goodbye.
When he eased her back, Nate touched his hands to her cheeks and wiped her tears. Then he reached down and pulled her hands from behind his back.
Cyan’s palms were lined with scars.
Nate lifted them and kissed each one in turn, before he looked up at her. “Feel like taking a trip with me?”
“To where?” If they were going to be together, did she even care?
“A small town I think you’re familiar with.”
Her jaw dropped. “That’s where I’m going to live?”
Was it going to be weird, considering tough parts of her past were forever connected to that place and the people who lived there? Cyan was a new creation now, a fact that meant she didn’t need to worry. Or strive. God would take care of her, her heart, and the hearts of people she’d hurt. His love would heal them all.
Nate’s eyebrows twitched. “Do you want to go with me to Sanctuary?”
Cyan thought about the book she’d been reading—okay, torturing herself with—just days ago. She lifted her chin and quoted her favorite words from the book of Ruth. “Wherever you go, I will go…” She recited the passage, watching a wide smile break over Nate’s face.
He hugged her to him, pulling her face into his neck. “Thank you, Lord.”
Cyan’s heart filled with love. Thank you, Lord.

Lisa Phillips is a British ex-pat who grew up an hour outside of London. She attended Calvary Chapel Bible College where she met her husband. He's from California, but nobody's perfect. It wasn't until her Bible College graduation that she figured out she was a writer (someone told her). Since then she's taken the Apprentice and Journeyman writing courses with the Christian Writers Guild, and discovered a penchant for high-stakes stories of mayhem and disaster where you can find made-for-each-other love that always ends in happily ever after.
Lisa can be found in Idaho wearing either flip-flops or cowgirl boots, depending on the season. She leads worship with her husband at their local church. Together they have two children—a sparkly Little Princess and a Mini Daddy—and there's only one bunny now (sad face).
