Franki sighed. “I tried to convince her to at least personally greet her daughter, but she refused.”

“What’s wrong with her? She had totally abandoned her daughter.”

“I don’t feel sorry for Bessie. She looks content with you. She has a family now.”

Zoey couldn’t help but agree. Since she and Troy jointly adopted Bessie, the girl never asked about her mother again.

She saw Troy standing not too far away from the castle, watching the children play while holding their nine-month old son, Ashton.

Even if he had his own real son, he still treated Bessie like his own daughter. He had actually spoiled her, gave her anything she asked of him. In fact, Bessie now called him Daddy.

She remembered that day when she was about to give birth to Ashton. Troy was still in jail. They turned down his request for parole. It had been difficult for her the last few months without him, but the most difficult thing was to not have him by her side on that particular day. The presence of Logan and Troy’s parents comforted her though.

But as they wheeled her to the delivery room, she heard Troy’s voice. Even in the midst of pain, she opened her eyes to look around. There, she saw her husband running towards her, still wearing his prison uniform and escorted by a policeman.

He begged for the hospital staff to stop for a minute so he could kiss and hug her. She couldn’t remember crying harder than at that moment. Troy did too. He stayed with her until she had given birth. He even held the baby in his arms, crying in joy. But after that, the police officer had to take him back to prison.

A month after that, they finally granted him parole. He had almost never left her side since then and spent more time with his son more than she had. He also turned down Hal Carter’s request to have him back to the game even if his one year suspension had already been lifted, resulting to the Patriots being eliminated from the playoffs. He said he needed to make it up with his wife and his son.

As if he felt that she was staring at him, Troy turned in her direction and smiled at her.

Franki groaned. “Your husband seems to fall more and more in love with you everyday. It’s been a while since I saw my husband look at me in such a way.”

Zoey put her arms around her friend. “Give it another year and I’d be saying the same thing you just said.” They both giggled.

“I’ll go check on my girls,” Franki said and left.

  Troy approached her.

“Need help with the baby,” she asked, gently wiping the drool off the sides of Ashton’s mouth.

“No,” he replied. “I just noticed you staring at me. Missing me already?”

She laughed. “I miss you all the time,” she confessed. There was no reason for her to hide anything from him now. Since they were reunited after his release from prison, they opened up everything to each other. They fell in love with each other without any reservations, without remorse, without holding back. Now, they were crazy in love with each other, laughing most of the time, doing things together.

He leaned over to whisper in her ear. “I’ll tuck in the kids early tonight, so we can have the rest of the night for ourselves.”

She giggled. Suddenly, Logan was standing before them.

“You heard from Hal?” the coach asked.

Troy nodded. “He called me yesterday.”

  “So?”

Troy looked at her. She knew about that. Hal wanted Troy back to the Patriots for this coming season, but her husband was still undecided.

“I’m not sure yet,” Troy replied.

“Why not? Your sentence’s over. Your suspension’s been lifted. Your injury’s healed. What’s the problem?”

Troy glanced at Ashton in his arms. “I just got out of jail.”

  “That’s eight months ago.”

“I can’t stay away from my family for too long.”

“It’s not like they’ll disappear if you leave them for a week or so.”

Troy sighed and glanced at his wife. He seemed confused, but Zoey knew that, next to being a husband and a father, he loved playing football.

“We can always tag along,” she suggested. “We have mom to take care of Bessie while we’re on the road.”

  “That’s right,” Logan agreed.

Troy stared at her, squinting. “Are you sure?”

She nodded. “Football’s your life. I don’t want to take that away from you.”

He groaned and leaned forward to press a kiss on her lips. “I love you, baby.”

“So, is that a yes?” Logan asked.

“Yes,” she answered for her husband. “Troy Myer’s making a come back this season.”

“Alright then.” Logan tapped his nephew’s shoulder. “Drop by my office on Monday. There are papers for you to sign.”

  “He’ll be there,” she assured.

Logan pointed a finger at Troy’s face. “Your wife had spoken,” he said and pinched Ashton’s cheek before he turned away.

Troy cocked his head and looked at her. “Is a wife allowed to enter a contract on behalf of her husband?” he asked.

She laughed. “I just gave my permission. You’ll be the one to sign the contract anyway.”

He put her arms around her shoulders. “Let’s go talk to the guests. You’re standing here like an outcast. By the way, your sister called. She said she can’t make it today because of an activity in the university.”

“Oh, she must be talking about her recital.”

“Well, unlike you, she is full of talents.”

She pinched at his rib that he almost squealed. He laughed after that and kissed her forehead.

“You’re full of wit anyway,” he said.

It was getting dark when the guests had all left. The caterers had emptied the place, as well. Troy had handed the baby to his mother and helped in disposing the garbage.

Everyone had gotten inside the house already, but Bessie refused to come out of the castle.

“Come on, sweetheart,” Zoey said patiently while peeking at the small door. “You can play here again tomorrow.”

Bessie still did not want to, but being the obedient girl she was, she obliged and walked with Zoey to the house.

A few minutes later, Troy came in and headed for the kitchen to wash his hands. Zoey followed him. So did Paula who was still holding Ashton.

“You don’t mind if I take Ashton home with me tonight, would you?” Paula asked.

Zoey was frozen. Troy too. Slowly, he turned his head to look at his mother. Both of them were speechless.

“Please,” Paula begged. “Just for tonight. You can come get him back tomorrow morning.”

Troy wiped his hands with a towel. “Are you sure you can take care of him?” he asked.

“Honey, I raised two sons. What made you think I’m incapable of taking care of one?”

He looked at Zoey and raised his eyebrow. She understood he wanted her to decide about it.

“I don’t see any problem about it,” she said. “We can go get him tomorrow morning and proceed to the theme park. I miss going there.”

  Troy nodded. “My boss agreed.”

Paula smiled. “I’m coming along to the theme park. And don’t worry about Ashton. He’d be treated like a prince.”

Zoey followed Paula back to the living room, with Troy tailing them. She had no worries at all. She knew her mother in law would take care of Ashton like how she had taken care of Bessie before.

She prepared Ashton’s things and handed them to Stanly. When they were about to leave, Stanly looked around as if searching for someone. “Where’s Bessie?” he asked.

Suddenly, they heard footsteps running down the stairs. Zoey saw Bessie coming with her backpack.

  “Here, grandpa,” Bessie said.

  Zoey was dumbfounded.

“You sure you can handle two kids?” Troy asked.

“I handled two very naughty sons,” Paula reminded him again.

Troy closed his mouth shut, unable to comment.

“Well,” he said after the van had driven away. “It’s just me and you now.”

She sighed and walked with her back inside the house. “It’s strangely quiet in here,” she said.

Troy closed the door and turned her to face him. “We can fill the house with passionate sounds,” he teased.

She giggled. She knew what he had in mind. In fact, he had started to unbutton his shirt already.

She ran away, but he caught up with her in the living room. He pulled her down the carpet and pinned her underneath him.

“Now, I’m going to make you scream,” he said and ripped her dress apart before devouring her breasts.

She did scream and wriggled underneath him, but as the heat of his mouth consumed her, her screams turned into moans.

“Oh, Zoey,” he moaned and lifted his head to kiss her mouth, while his hands squeezed her breasts.

He undressed her, and she undressed him. When he stretched over her, their naked bodies pressed together, he stared at her face, his eyes glowing with happiness.

“You made my life complete, Zoey. You came and made everything right. I couldn’t ask for more.”

She smiled, touched by his words. “You did the same to me, Troy Myers. I never thought all I needed was a man, after all.”

He grinned and kissed her again. When he entered her, they held each other tight—their moans filling the air.

Too much happiness. Did she even deserve this? Did she deserve a man like Troy? He may have been a prick the first time she met him, but now he had turned out to be the man of every woman’s fantasy.

It seemed like a dream, but here he was—in her arms. She had won him by an epic touchdown.
