Take a Chance on Me

He could have kept going, but he didn’t have to, because she pressed close and kissed his mouth so softly it felt like a prayer of her own. “Yes, oh yes.”

  “You’ll marry me?”

  “In a heartbeat.”

“I was thinking New Year’s Eve.”

  “Next year?”

  “More like in nine days.”

“Even better.” She kissed him again, and he curved his hands up her back and tangled them in her hair. He held her tight, kissing her back, and decided there was no way he could ever count all his blessings with this woman.

They found an officiant who would marry them on the beach near Grady’s mother’s house. The night before, Harpreet, Nina, and Tegan gathered for an intimate sangeet ceremony and carefully applied mehndi to Priya’s hands and feet.

“I always hoped you’d have a traditional wedding,” Harpreet admitted. “But this is perfect for you. And so is Grady. My beautiful, smart, modern daughter.”

They exchanged simple, earnest vows at sunset on New Year’s Eve. Nina stood beside her son, who wore a black suit, and Priya, dressed in a gold and magenta saree, walked with her parents across the sand.

Wyatt and Tegan were their witnesses, and after the deed was formally done, they all went back to Nina’s house for a catered dinner and champagne.

Shortly before midnight, a hired car returned them to Grady’s house. Their house now.

Grady picked her up and carried her across the threshold, and right into their bedroom.

He carefully undressed her, then kissed her all over. Their wedding night started with his head between her thighs, and ended with him sliding into her two orgasms later.

“I love you so much,” he breathed. “I will always love you.”

She whispered the words right back to him, and held him tight as he lost himself in her body.

This was where they’d started. This was what gave them that first spark of connection which eventually bloomed into a mutual love she trusted with her entire being. And this would be what they’d return to over and over again in their marriage. The two of them, entwined against the world.

  Epilogue

  The following July

Priya took a deep breath before she approached the airline counter. Then she pasted on her best, most understanding smile. “Any luck?”

  “Your name again?”

  “Priya Mattu Mills.”

  “You’re on standby?”

“No, I have a ticket, but I was bumped to standby. My best friend is getting married tomorrow, so if there is any way you can get me back on the flight…”

“I’ll see what I can do.”

That’s what the other guy said, she seethed in her head. Her smile got wider. “Thanks.”

She tapped out a quick update to Grady.

Priya: Still not on the flight. Tell me not to freak out.

  Grady: Don’t freak out.

  Priya: Too late.

Grady: I’m just about to get on my flight—sorry—but I’ll look for an update when I land in Boston. Love you!

She loved her husband, too. Desperately. But if he got to see Tegan and Wyatt get married and she missed it, she’d never let him live it down. Even if it wasn’t his fault she was stuck in Miami.

She flipped over to a browser and searched for other flights departing today from Miami to Boston. As long as she could get there by the end of the day, she’d get to Camp Firefly Falls in time for the wedding.

Just as she was about to buy a second ticket, her name was called out, and she sprinted back to the airline counter. “Yes,” she said breathlessly, skidding to a stop. “I’m—”

“Priya Mattu Mills. Yes, I remember you from two minutes ago.”

There was zero need for snark, but she wasn’t going to point that out at this particular juncture. “Great.”

“We have a seat for you.”

“Oh, thank you thank you thank you.” She took the boarding pass greedily, and didn’t even care that she had an aisle seat. Whatever. She had co-best women duties to get to.

Grady was waiting for her when she landed at Logan Airport. They drove to her parents’ house for dinner, then headed west, arriving at their B&B in Briarsted after dark.

They weren’t staying at camp this summer, because Priya had to be in Miami all week. Her first documentary had been well received at the network, and now she was working on a second in what she hoped could become a series.

After Tegan’s wedding, they’d fly back to San Diego together. The rest of the summer would be spent there, soaking up as much quality time as possible before Grady deployed overseas again. After he departed, Priya would move to Florida for a few months to get the documentary done.

It was a weird, nomadic life, but it was theirs together, and they loved it.

“Are you excited about tomorrow?” Grady asked her as they crawled into bed.

“I can’t wait. I’m sorry that we didn’t get to spend the whole week there, though.”

“Maybe next year,” he said, brushing his lips against her neck. “Unless I knock you up before I leave. Then it’ll be the year after.”

She shivered and pressed herself against him. “Let’s see what we can do about that.”

“You want to get laid, my beautiful wife?”

  “So much.”

He licked her collarbone, then rolled her on top of him. “Like this tonight. I want to see you.”

She rose up on her thighs and peeled off her t-shirt. Between her legs, he stroked his erection against her wetness until her clit felt huge and her body ached to be filled. Then she lowered herself onto him, bracing her hands against his chest until he was well seated and she ached because she was full.

  So good. “Oh, Grady…”

He grinned up at her. “Never gets old, beautiful.”

“More, Grady…” Her breath caught as she rode him, as he thrust up into her and clamped his hands tight on her hips. “Oh, yes. God, so good.”

“Come with me,” he growled. “Tell me what you want.”

“I want you,” she whimpered. “I want your baby, I want this, always.”

“Always,” he repeated as he bucked off the bed, fucking into her from below.

She threw her head back and gave in to the sensations of him. Big inside her, strong beneath her, his hands rough and knowing and sure against her skin.

When she came, it was heady and raw, and emotional, too, because he was bare inside her.

A family. So not where she’d have guessed she’d be right now, but it felt so right.

Grady cleaned her up, then pressed his head to her belly as they caught their breath. “Love you,” he murmured, stroking her hip.

“Love you, too.” She closed her eyes and let a smile take over her entire face.

He’d know this about her, too, when they arrived at camp tomorrow. Their little secret, their delicious hope.
