“True, but I thought I should at least come and pay my respects to her.”

“It is your fault that she’s dead!” Rick’s body shook with rage, as he fought to control the feelings of fear and anger that surged through his body. “Why are you calling me?”

“I wanted to tell you how sad it made me feel to watch you today. She was the perfect woman, was she not? I’ll always treasure the memories of the time we spent together.”

“I can’t believe you killed her!”

“Oh Rick, I didn’t kill her, you know that. I just set up the moves, and it was up to everyone how they played out their parts. I did, however, kill Tom. It’s quite simple to help someone have a fatal heart attack after they had recently survived a serious one,” he said softly.

“Damn you, you really are evil!” Rick growled. “So, what’s the real reason you’re calling me? I don’t believe it was for small talk.”

Erebus laughed softly, “Oh Rick, I understand why you and Lucinda were such great friends. You’re both so much alike. I must say that I should rethink my plans.”

Rick felt his heart nearly stop beating in his chest, “What do you mean by change your plans?”

Erebus had paused several moments before he spoke again. “You see, I’m always on the lookout for a new and exciting Tracker to play in The Game, and I would hate to think I’ve overlooked the potential for a thrilling game. You need to get inside because I know your family is waiting for you. Rick, I want to remind you to keep your eyes open at all times as you never know when I may return, goodbye.”
