The Journey Begins

Yep, this was going to be WAY FUN!
The Adventure Begins...
Charlie and I headed off to explore the world. We walked and walked and walked. Charlie was much faster than me.
“I’m sorry to slow you down Charlie,” I said.
Charlie looked at me and winked, “No problems Zee, I’m just happy to have a friend to walk with.”
That night we sat around a fire. Adventurers like to do that. “I have a secret friend I’d like to introduce you to,” I said to Charlie.
He looked around the campsite. There was nobody there. Charlie looked at me as if I had gone insane.
Then I pulled out Pete the Potato. “This is my other best friend, Pete meet Charlie.”
Laughter burst from Charlie’s mouth, “That’s a potato! How can a potato be a friend? It can’t talk, it can’t walk, it can’t do anything!”
I put my hands over Pete’s ears or where I thought his ears should be. I could feel myself getting angry, “Don’t talk about my bestie like that!”
Charlie looked at me, then he looked at Pete, then he looked at me. “You’re joking, aren’t you Zee? Your zombie sense of humor is a crack up!”
Looking down at Pete, I could see that he was upset. And I wasn’t going to abandon my good friend. Green tears escaped from my eyes...I was crying just like a human, only the tears came out in the shape of a cube.
A shocked look covered Charlie’s face. “Zee, are you crying?”
And that was when thick green snot started pouring out of my nostrils. It came out like a river of snot.
Charlie jumped back away from me. “That’s disgusting Zee!” he yelled. “You’re a big cry baby, after all, IT’S JUST A POTATO!”
Carefully Charlie stood and walked around the river of snot and patted me on the back, “Give me the potato Zee, I’ll look after it while you pull yourself together. Go down to the creek and wash all that green snot off your face and body.”
Finally Charlie was being caring towards me and Pete the Potato. “Okay Charlie, but make sure you take care of him,” I said, before I lumbered down to the creek.
All cleaned up, I returned to the campfire. Charlie was busy cooking dinner for us on a grill sitting on the fire. He really was a good friend, I thought to myself.
Charlie passed me a plate with some cubes on it. “Eat up Zee boy, we’ve got a big day of adventuring ahead of us tomorrow.”
Whatever it was, it was delicious! I ate everything on my plate and thanked Charlie.
“No problems Zee, I told you I would take care of the potato,” he said, laughing.
It was then that I realized I couldn’t see Pete. I looked around...I couldn’t see him.
“Charlie, where is Pete the Potato?” I asked.
Smirking, he said, “You just ate him Zee and he was yummy.”
Some people think that zombies have no feelings. Well it isn’t true! “You’re mean Charlie, I don’t like you and I don’t want to adventure with you!” I stood up, gathered my sticks and turned my back on Charlie. He had killed my Pete and even worse he tricked me into eating Pete...although he did taste good.
Charlie called out to me that I was being silly. He told me that now we could be best friends without Pete getting in the way. But I didn’t say another word to him...I just walked away. I never wanted to see Charlie again.
After climbing hills and passing villages, eventually I reached my cave in the mountain. Home Sweet Home, I thought. At the far corner of my cave I found an old hessian bag, reaching inside I found what I was looking for...another potato.
“Pete, you’ve come back to life!” I cried. Pete didn’t reply, but that was normal. But I’m sure he smiled at me. I gave him a cuddle and promised to take him on another adventure soon, but this time it would be just Pete and me.
