She wanted to deny it but the more she thought on it the more it made sense. “Maybe he is.”

“I’m going to take a quick shower and then we’ll hit the sack…to sleep.” He saw her eyes flick to his and his lust for her flared full force. He walked over to the bed towering over her. “Lay back.”

  “What?”

“Lay back and find a comfortable position.” He pulled out his shock cuffs. He turned off the shock power.

  “Is that necessary?”

“Yes, it is.” He clicked one cuff on her slender wrist and the other on the pole of the headrest. His fingers lingered on her skin. Damn, she was pretty and so soft.

He turned and put another set of cuffs on Bob to make sure he couldn't move. Then he went in the bathroom and shut the door. He needed a few minutes to regain his composure. The woman was driving him crazy.

“Are you telling me that you still have not found them yet?”

“Boss, I went back to the first motel and looked for signs but it’s like they disappeared,” Crawley said with frustration over the phone.

“Where is the closest shuttle station?”

“About two hours from the first motel,” Crawley answered.

“They’ll be heading there. Go and wait for them.”

  “Yes, sir.”

  Chapter Seven

Daniela was dreaming that her body was being stroked with strong, sure precision. The hands on her knew how to evoke a response from her. She moaned in pleasure and pressed her ass back against a very hard and aroused cock. She wanted that cock buried deep inside her. Her body responded to her needs. Her nipples were hard points and her arousal dripped from the apex between her legs. With droopy eyes she turned her head to stare at the man stirring her desire. What a wonderful dream.

Only it wasn’t like any dream she had ever had before. Sure, she fantasized about other men throughout her relationship with Lial. Those were only fantasies and the men never had a face. This fantasy/dream was different. There was a definite face and the face belonged to the bounty hunter, Jagger.

Jagger leaned forward and took her welcoming lips in a searing kiss. Their tongues met and an explosion of desire and need shot through him. He became more aggressive with his embrace. Thoughts of claiming the woman torturing his body ran rampant through his head. Must…have…her.

“Jagger,” Daniela whispered his name arching against him willingly, desperately.

How was he supposed to refuse her offer? He moved so he was over her and pushed her onto her back. He reclaimed her lips as his hands rolled her t-shirt up, exposing her breasts. Both of them moaned when his hands took her mounds massaging them.

Daniela wrapped her legs around his waist trying to bring his pants covered cock to her center. Damn it, why were they wearing clothes in her dream? She jerked his t-shirt up and he helped yanked it off, throwing it to the floor. His naked chest pressed against her exposed breasts and fire shot through her whole body.

“Daniela, you are beautiful,” Jagger whispered as he lifted up and moved lower so he could capture a nipple in his mouth. She tasted so sweet like honey. He had to have more. Nothing was as perfect as she was. This was perfect.

“I knew she would be hot to fuck!” Bob’s nasal voice shattered the sensual daze the two of them were in.

Shit! Jagger jumped off her almost tripping as he leaped from the bed. What had he been thinking? He almost fucked Daniela right there in the dirty motel room with the perp tied up and watching the whole thing. The fact the perp was sitting at an odd angle and had probably seen very little of Daniela’s body did nothing to lessen the anger he felt toward the man. He stalked over to him and raised his fist.

“Damn it! Not again,” Bob muttered right before Jagger’s fist made contact with his face knocking him out.

Daniela had only been able to yank her t-shirt down to cover her chest but other than that she felt like she was frozen in place. What she thought was her having a sexual dream, a fantasy, was her half asleep self almost having sex with the bounty hunter who was determined to turn her in.

“Oh God.” She felt her body shake from unmet desire still coursing through her veins. She avoided eye contact for fear she might jump him again.

“Let’s get going.” He pulled his shirt back on and unlocked Bob’s slumped body to carry it outside to his motor pod.

Daniela put on her shoes and grabbed her bag off the floor. She was confused. She had a somewhat fiancé back home. But a few weeks of separation from him, and she was ready to have hot sweaty sex with a complete stranger.

She sighed. She and Lial had always had a rocky relationship. She was the supporter in the relationship while he was always the one needing her support. He never spoke kind words to her unless he wanted something or it benefited him. When she thought about it, he often put her down if she didn’t do what he wanted. Sexually, they weren’t that compatible. He demanded she please him but never made any effort to ensure her pleasure. In truth, she preferred not to have sex with him at all unless absolutely necessary. God, why had she stayed with him so long?

  *****

Jagger’s cell phone rang. “Jagger here. Yeah, we are on our way now to the shuttle station. I’ll call you as soon as we take off.” He ended the call and placed it in his jacket’s inside pocket.

He glanced over at Daniela and noticed how pale she was. He cleared his throat. “Sorry.”

She looked over at him with piercing green eyes. “Sorry about what?” But she already knew what.

“For what happened in the motel room, with us on the bed. It was a mistake.”

She thought things couldn’t get any worse. Well they just did. The only pleasure she had felt in a long time was with Jagger in the dirty motel room, and he just called it a mistake. She looked away quickly before he could see the hurt in her eyes. It was stupid to think those stolen moments meant anything. Not to a man like Jagger. For all she knew he did that with all his female charges. She kept silent the rest of the way to the station.

  *****

Something was off. He could feel it. Jagger walked, keeping one hand on Bob through the shuttle station lobby letting Daniela walk beside him without cuffs. She had been silent for a long time. The silence bothered him.

When he was taking a fugitive in they were constantly trying to talk him out of it. Also, Daniela was a woman and he thought that most women talked a lot. Except for Elsa and Asia. This woman wasn’t acting like she should. Then there was the feeling he got that they were being watched. He didn’t like being out in the open like this.

Daniela could have made a run for it, but what point was there. Someone was trying to kill her, most likely her ex—fiancé. She needed to start thinking of him that way. The only way to stay alive was to let Jagger take her in. She was surprised he didn’t make her wear handcuffs. But he must know that she had nowhere else to run. Two uniformed men approached them. They must be the station security guards.

“Sir, you need to identify yourself and those with you,” they addressed Jagger.

Jagger pulled out his bounty hunter’s badge and identification. He also showed them the warrant for Daniela. They looked up at him in question.

“Yeah, she’s my fugitive, but this guy is under citizen’s arrest for…harboring her,” Jagger said smoothly.

“That’s a damn lie!” Bob grumbled, trying to jerk free but the electric cuffs shocked him with his jerky movements.

“He’s also proven to be very violent as well,” Jagger added, tightening his grip.

The two guards seemed satisfied with Jagger’s credentials and let them pass. Jagger leaned over to whisper in Bob’s ear. “I can always tell them the truth. That you were hired to kill Miss Martin and was found attempting to rape her. Most security will take the poor treatment of woman to be the highest of offense.” Bob kept quiet after that.

The way the station was set up was like the old train stations. Three rows side by side with at least twe
nty shuttles at a time. One side of the station was for departure and the other side was for arrivals. There was a huge round building directly in the center of the station that had twenty ticket windows to purchase or retrieve previously purchased tickets. Jagger went to the ticket window and bought three tickets. He then directed Daniela to follow him to the departure side.

It was so crowded Daniela had to walk behind them. Jagger looked back at her. “Keep close to us. This crowd is insane. We’re on shuttle 5120FD.”

They were halfway to the shuttle when she was bumped from behind—hard. She lost her footing. She tripped and fell at the same time a swooshing sound went over her head. It must have hit Bob because he went down to the ground. Jagger let him go while diving for Daniela. He covered her body with his own.

“We have to get out of here!” Jagger had his weapon drawn and was looking for the shooter. “Stay low and follow me!” She crawled on the floor through the many legs of running panicked people.

“Wait, what about Bob?” Daniela paused by Bob’s body and tried to turn him over. Her hands came away with red sticky stuff. Blood, it was blood. A hand on her upper arm jerked her forward.

“He’s dead. If we don’t leave now that could be us!” Jagger propelled her in front of him as they continued to crawl to an exit. Outside was just as chaotic. People rushing and trampling over one another to get to a motor pod. She watched in awe and horror as Jagger shoved a man to the back of the motor pod and directed her to climb inside.

“What the hell are you doing? You can’t shove people around like that!” She looked back at the poor man in the back.

Jagger glared at her and then said to the man, “Sorry.”

The man shook his head. “Just get us out of here!” Jagger didn’t hesitate but took off for safety. They drove for about thirty minutes until Jagger felt they weren’t followed. He had turned the radio up for a little while, then turned it off in frustration. Daniela was too shocked and scared to hear what was on the radio. He pulled over at a nearby public park and stopped. “Get out!”

  Daniela looked at him. “What?”

“Not you…him!” He pointed to the man in back to get out. “I need to borrow your motor pod.”

“Take it! It’s not even mine.” The man slammed the door shut as he got out and ran off.

  “What now?” Daniela asked.

“We need to ditch this motor pod and find a safe house to hold up in.” He looked over at Daniela amazed that she was keeping it together. Most civilians couldn’t handle stressful events. They either seized up or passed out. She did neither. Impressive.

He circled the park a few times then took off zig-zagging a few blocks away. They got out and made their way back toward the park. Daniela was confused.

“Why are we headed back this way?”

“I saw an abandoned building a block over. It’s several floors high, I think we can hide out there.” Jagger didn’t let up but kept pushing her to walk faster until they made it to the building he was talking about.

“I think I know why it was abandoned,” Daniela commented as she took in the exposed bricks and broken glass that used to be the windows. He grunted and led her inside closing the big metal door.

  “Perfect,” he said.

  “Huh?”

“The door locks and all the windows have tight bars on them. I will check for back entrances to make sure the doors are locked. No one will be able to get in without us knowing about it.”

Well, that was something. “Do you think we can get electricity?” She tripped over a box on the floor.

“Yeah, I’ll look for the power grid and see what I can do. I want you to stay on this level until I get back. Then we’ll check the next two floors and decide where we want to park it.”

“Are you sure there is no one else here?”

“Pretty sure, but take this.” He handed her his Taser gun. “Press the blue button once and anyone attacking will go down.”

“Okay.” She stood there looking around at the darkened room feeling the heaviness of the situation weighing down on her. Here she was, a lowly sous chef, falsely accused, on the run from the authority, beat up, caught by a bounty hunter, shot at by someone her fiancé hired to kill her, and now she was armed with a weapon. What more could make this an impossible situation? Oh yeah, she had the hots for the bounty hunter taking her in. Yep, just perfect.

  Chapter Eight

Jagger worked on getting the power up on the power grid. It was missing some wires. He had to call Isaac for ideas. “So you are saying a third of these wires are useless anyway?”

“Yep. Just cross connect the ones I told you and that’s all you’ll need,” Isaac told him.

Last wire connected and the lights flickered on and he heard the heating and air kick in. “Thanks, man.”

“No problem. Wait, Vic wants to talk to you.”

“Okay.” Jagger ran a shaky hand through his hair as he headed back up from the basement. All doors and windows were secure and the power was on now. He also found can food and a door that led to the sewer system in case they needed another outlet.

“What the hell happened?” Victor yelled over the phone.

Jagger sighed. “We were sitting ducks. That ex of hers paid someone to take her out. There was a shooter at the shuttle station and he killed the perp I captured from earlier.”

  “Where are you?”

“At an abandoned building thirty minutes from the shuttle station,” Jagger told him evasively.

“Exactly, where are you? I’m sending backup,” Victor persisted.

“Can’t. The news on the radio announced a twenty-four hour security shut down on the shuttle station until the incident is investigated.”

“Damn it!” Victor yelled out. “You are on lockdown, with a criminal who has a mark on her head, and no backup!”

Jagger made it back up to the main floor huffing and puffing. He found Daniela pacing with the Taser gun in her hand. He smiled at her. She was scared but brave. Hands down the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.

“That’s not the worst of it.”

“What else?” Vic asked with concern.

“The shooter at the station hit me.” He finished his garbled words before his body crumpled to the floor.

  *****

“Jagger!” Daniela dropped the Taser gun and rushed forward to Jagger’s prone body.

She turned him over and noticed a dark red stain over his right shoulder. Oh God! He had been shot but never said a word all this time. She noticed his cell phone in his hand. She grabbed it and held it up to her ear hearing a man screaming on the other end.

  “Hello?”

  “Who the hell is this?”

  “Daniela…Daniela Martin.”

  “Martin? Shit! Where is Jagger?”

“He passed out. He was shot but he never said a word. Oh God, he’s shot! There’s blood.”

“Don’t panic! Where was he shot?” the angry man asked.

“The right shoulder. He’s not waking up!”

“Is he breathing?” the man asked.

“Yes, yes he is still breathing, thank God.”

“Listen, does he still have his leather bag with him?”

Daniela looked and saw the black strap across his shoulders. “Yes! There’s a medic kit inside it right?”

“Yes. Get the kit. Give him the yellow shot, which speeds the healing, and the blue one, which is for the pain.”

Daniela’s hands shook as she pulled the kit out and retrieved the correct shots. She gave the healing one on the right shoulder closest to his injury, then administered the other. “Okay. I gave it to him.”

“Good girl. Listen to me, my name is Victor and I am Jagger’s full-blooded Decaros cousin. He is like a brother to me, so if something happens to him, I will lay the full blame on you. Do you understand what I am saying?”

A full Decaros? They were thought to be the most vicious of the alien species. They were quick to anger and
held grudges. “Yes, if he dies…I die.”

Victor didn’t bother with letting her know she was right. “Are the two of you in a secure place?”

“Yes, Jagger secured the doors and windows and got the power going before he…”

“Good. Stay there with him. You are being hunted. The best place for you is there. If you leave, whoever it was who shot Jagger will come for you and it would leave him vulnerable. I am sending help but it will be at least twenty-four hours before they can get to you. Stay close to this phone and answer every time it rings. Do you understand me?”

  “Yes.” Daniela ended the call.

Jagger was related to a Decaros. Did that mean he was a Decaros too? Part Decaros? She knew so little about him. She should have asked him questions. She prayed he recovered quickly so she could rectify that.

  *****

“Boss, I have good news and I have bad news,” Crawley said over the phone.

“What the hell do you mean by that?”

“I took care of Bob. He’s not a problem anymore. I also got a hit on the bounty hunter, but he and the girl got out of the station before I could finish them off.”

  “You let them live?”

“Boss, the place went crazy. The authority swarmed in and has shut down the station for twenty-four hours. No shuttles coming or going will be allowed.” Crawley pulled a beer from the frig that he bought from the local store.

“Well, that’s something. It means they have to stay there. And if you hurt the bounty hunter, it may mean they can’t leave for a while. Go over every inch of the area surrounding the station and look for them. Then finish this.”

“Boss, that’s still a lot of area to cover. I’ll need to hire some people to help me search.” Crawley didn’t like having to use his own money to sub out help. But he wouldn't get the rest of his money unless this job was finished.

“You do what you need to do to find them. But leave no witnesses behind. Do you get my meaning?”

“Yeah, yeah, no witnesses. I get it.” Crawley hung up the phone and searched his contacts. This job needed to be over and soon. He wanted off this rotten planet.
