Christmas in a Fur Coat (The Fur Coat Society Book 7)

The basket contained orange juice and champagne for mimosas, coffee kept piping hot in a thermos, chocolate croissants, yogurt, granola, fruit, and bagels with cream cheese. Finn quickly made mimosas for both of them, then held up his glass to hers.
“Merry Christmas, Sophia,” he said with a grin. “Here’s to overcoming fears and finding new adventures.”
She grinned back at him, and clinked her glass with his. “Merry Christmas, my Love.”
Her heart filled with joy, and she had a feeling that she wasn’t going to be dreading the holidays from now on.
Chapter Thirteen
* * * Three Years Later * * *
Sawyer’s cabin was filled to the max with shifters. Finn could hardly see the giant Christmas tree in his living room above all the heads. But he wouldn’t have traded this moment for anything in the world. Laughter from both adults and children filled the air, along with the scent of freshly baked cookies. Finn glanced over at his beautiful wife, Sophia, and smiled. On Sophia’s hip was their one year old son, Devon. The boy was quiet, but fiercely observant. He definitely took after his father. Sophia was talking to her brother, who was holding his own new baby in his arms.
Finn looked around at all of the familiar faces and he smiled so widely that his lips hurt. After the first reunion three years ago had gone so well, the shifters had decided to make a tradition out of the Christmas reunion. Every December, the Northern Lights Clan, the Burning Claws Clan, the Panda Shifters, and the Fur Coat Society descended on Frost Peak to join in celebrating the magic of Christmas. No one ever wanted to miss the festivities. There were always old necks to hug and new cubs to meet. The eggnog and mulled wine flowed freely, and the feeling of family was unmistakable.
This year had been an especially good one for Finn and Sophia. Not only had they celebrated their son’s first birthday, but they had celebrated Sophia’s documentary work being picked up by a major production company. It had been a little surreal to watch footage Sophia had shot right outside of Frost Peak showing up on major television networks.
But that’s what happened when you pushed back fear and took a chance on your dreams. Finn had gained a new family. Not only Sophia and his son, but also all of the shifters in the room today. The elders, their children, and now their grandchildren had all come together as one to celebrate peace, love, and joy. They acknowledged the ending of one year and the beginning of a new one. Some years brought trials, and some triumphs. But no matter what, the shifters knew they had a family here in this overcrowded cabin.
And that, Sawyer thought with a smile, was the best gift he could have ever asked for. He went to stand beside Sophia, wrapping his arm around her waist as Sawyer called to the group to join in on a Christmas carol. The voices in the room sang together about the wonder of the season, and Sawyer held Sophia and Devon even tighter.
Christmas with this group was always merry. Then again, every day with this group was a joy. All of these shifters, from the youngest to the oldest, were part of a legacy. Finn leaned over and kissed Sophia softly. She smiled up at him, and Devon reached up to grab his chin. Finn felt his heart melting with love for the thousandth time that day.
He was lucky to be part of this legacy of shifters, long may they live.
