“Where are Kelsi’s babies?” her father asked.
“They’re with Shane, their father, sitting at the back of the church, because he expects them to have him up and down.”
Then it was time for her to walk to the front of the church on her father’s arm. It was something she’d never imagined doing, but she did it with pride. Every eye was on them, and when she reached the front of the church, she kissed her father’s cheek before turning to Wilber. He was the only man she’d ever loved, who had gotten her through the hard times of her life. She would never be able to live without him.
Bobbi danced with everyone at the reception—her father for the first time in almost half a century—her sons, her sons-in-law, her nephews, and many of the ranch employees. But most importantly, she danced with Wilber.
She made her way around the tables, where everyone feasted. She broke tradition and decided to serve two meals, so they could dance until dawn if they chose to. She stopped by one of the tables to see several of the Weston cousins who had spent every summer on the ranch, harassing her children and being harassed in return.
“Hello, you three!”
Kenneth smiled at her. “Hi, Aunt Bobbi. Congratulations on marrying Uncle Wilber a second time. Just don’t have more sons, okay?”
Bobbi laughed. “I think I’m past my child-bearing years. Thank God. Now I get to be a grandmother and send them home after they’re good and spoiled.”
Kenneth’s sister, Marybeth, grinned. “Those babies of Kelsi’s are just adorable!”
“Aren’t they sweet?”
Cooper shrugged. “I guess if you’re into mooning over babies, they’re okay.”
Bobbi just laughed. “Are your parents here? I haven’t seen them?”
“They couldn’t make it. They were going to come, but Mom had emergency gall bladder surgery, so she sent us on without her,” Marybeth said. “I feel like I should be there helping out, but Dad said he had it.”
“Give her my best.” Bobbi made a mental note to send a get-well card as she moved on to the next table.
Kelsi was sitting with Shane and the twins, talking softly to the babies. “Mom!”
“Kelsi!” Bobbi laughed and shook her head. “Your cousin Athena looks like she’s sitting alone over there.” Athena’s real name hadn’t been quite good enough for her, so she’d changed it. Her hair was down almost to her bottom, and she wore beads as a headband. She was odd, which was why Bobbi would prefer it if Kelsi was the one to deal with her.
“Yeah, I tried to talk to her, but she was mumbling something about herbs that would make my milk come in faster, and I got out of there. I’m nursing twins. My milk is just fine, thank you very much!”
Bobbi grinned. “Maybe I can talk Dani into going over and talking to her.”
“Good luck with that! She’s too busy making cow’s eyes at Travis.”
Bobbi shook her head and gave up. If Athena couldn’t make a move to talk to the others, she wasn’t going to force one of her children to go and talk to her. She glanced at her niece once more and saw that Jaclyn’s nephew was there talking to her. How the nerd and the hippie would get along, she didn’t know!
Instead, she walked across the crowded dance floor, and stopped in front of her husband. “I think this dance might have to be mine.”
“Oh?”
She nodded. “I haven’t felt your arms around me in at least an hour. What happens if I shrivel up and die for lack of your love?”
“You know as well as I do that it doesn’t matter if I’m with you or not. My love is there.”
She sighed happily. “I do know that.” She looked over her shoulder for a minute. “Do you realize that many of the people that are here today, wouldn’t be without our love? Marrying you did exactly what I needed. It gave me my forever family.”
