Captain Little Sunshine--Female Pirate
Page 3
“And how do we come home with a broken sail?”
“We could extend the oars of the sloop a little bit and allow to row Archie then for us,” Harry said and couldn't keep back a smile on this thought. However, Little Sunshine had another idea.
“Aboard we have needle and thread. Nevertheless, Harry can well sew and repair the sail again.”
So fast the smile had appeared in Harry's face, so fast it also disappeared again.
“Don't become cheeky, young lady. Captain, at that time you should have allowed me to resole the bottom to the child, when I held it for right.”
Garvinger looked at them.
“Maybe I should have done this. But without it she has also become one good, adult woman, who has saved the life of her father with his crew. Maybe she will be a pirate one day.”
Little Sunshines father had hoped for a comment from her, completely as it would have corresponded to her mother, but this was missing. Instead, she made a sad impression.
“What is wrong, my child? Nevertheless, something depresses you.”
It took a while, until she answered the question.
“I am disappointed.”
Garvinger didn't understand.
“About what are you disappointed? You and the others have saved me, we have a big treasure, and Willthorn is, where he should be, namely in hell.”
“That's what it is, father. You have defeated him, not me. If you hadn't intervened, I would be dead now.”
“First of all: Willthorn has defeated himself, when he fired the gun. And what concerns the other one: Don't you grant the victory to me?”
“However,” Little Sunshine said a little bit sad. “But I thought, I could defeat him. For years, I have practiced. More than once, I had the feeling, the sabers and I are one. And often I have defeated some of the crew in practice fights.”
“Because they let you. You were a young girl, and if you had lost, you would have been angry.”
“It would have motivated me more, if I had defeated them by myself. Too much, I have spent a lot of time with practicing. Maybe it would have been different in the cave than it has happened in such a way as it happened.”
“Harry, make the boat clear, so that we can row to the ship.”
Without a reply, Harry obeyed the order of his Captain. Besides, he knew, when it was time to search the width and to let the family alone. Garvinger went along a few steps on the beach.
“You mean you are angry, because you couldn't stand against this stinking scum? Now, without you and the others, I would be dead. You have come so far. You have fought against a pirate ship and have survived. And I am sure that you have also defeated several opponents. One person cannot win every fight.”
“But now, without you, I would be dead.”
“This is right. We have to do something that this won't happen sometime. Somebody cannot always be there and save you. But nevertheless: It was my job to fight against Willthorn and to hunt him down. I thought, he would be my friend, but nowadays, you can trust nobody.”
When her father was quiet, she took the word.
“If you say that I must practice more, does this mean, I may remain in your crew and become a pirate?”
Garvinger came all the conversations to his mind again, which he had carried on with his daughter with regarding to this subject. More than once, it had ended in a quarrel, because the pirate's life was nothing for a woman. Especially not for his daughter. But if his wife would be still alive, she would say that he should allow her what she wants to do, even if it would be the wrong decision for him.
“Is there nothing else what you have in mind? Nevertheless, the life has to offer a lot. Why just a pirate? What is so special on it?”
Little Sunshine smiled at him, because on these questions she had the perfect answer ready.
“Because I would just like to become like my father.”
Garvinger was only irritated, but then he also smiled at her and took her into his arms.
“But you will do what I or Harry say,” he said immediately.
“I am not sure about Harry.”
“Hey, he may be a nagging person and always in bad mood as hundred pirates, but basically he has a good heart. But I don't understand that he has given the command to you. Normally, he is responsible for everything, if I am not there.”
“Harry had no other choice. I admitted nothing else. Just as you had no other choice, when I had crept aboard and had hidden, when you have gone to the sea.”
“Don't remind me of it.”
One month ago, Little Sunshine had hidden on the ship, when her father had given the command for sail. He didn't want that she travels, too dangerous he found it. But Little Sunshine had her own head.
“Do me a favor, and do what Harry says to you. He deals already enough with Archie, there he cannot still need you.”
Little Sunshine nodded.
“If you say so.”
But she liked Harry, even if he behaved in such a way as he did.
Garvinger looked from Little Sunshine to his ship.
“But about the nickname we would have to talk once more.”
Little Sunshine also looked to the ship.
“There is nothing what we have to talk about, Captain.”
Garvinger laughed. She only called him "Captain" if she held a discussion for finished. Like in this case.
“As you wish, Captain Little Sunshine.”
She looked at him and also smiled.
“Common," he said. “Let's return to the ship and send a few men to transport the gold!”
