Chapter Twenty-Two
Charm wiped the tears on her face when she heard the gallery door open. She was setting up a sleeping bag on the ground, and had locked up, and closed all the blinds on the windows and doors. So when Denzel burst into the gallery, she jumped in both shock and fright. He looked from her down to the sleeping bag.
“What are you doing?” He asked.
“Ah-I-I’m getting ready for bed,” she replied. She used her t-shirt to wipe her face off some more. But that didn’t really hide the fact that she was blubbering.
“And what are you crying for?” He questioned.
“I stubbed my toe,” she lied.
“Be honest with me, Charm. Why are you crying?” She huffed and stomped her foot.
“I’m crying because I’m having a baby by the man I love and he doesn’t want me!” She exclaimed. “And I can’t seem to do nothing but cry!” Denzel just looked at her softly.
“Why you trying to sleep here?”
“I’ve moved most of my stuff here. Terrell has his nurse and I wasn’t going to stay any longer while he does have one. And well, I didn’t wanna bother Jason, so…”
“Pack a small bag and come on.”
“To where?”
“To my loft.”
“Why?” She asked.
“I’m not letting a pregnant woman sleep on the ground, in a sleeping bag. Much less a woman that’s pregnant by me. So come on. I’m taking you to my place.” Charm wanted to question him, but she quickly grabbed the bag of her clothes that was in the office while Denzel packed up the sleeping bag. He didn’t say anything as they drove to his loft. But when they got inside, he sat her around the table in the kitchen and made her some tea.
“How long you been sleeping in the gallery?”
“Just a couple nights. I asked Terrell for the divorce. He said no. So I just have to take him to court. After he said no, I started staying at the gallery. One day I was packing stuff up in the guest room at the house and I realized I hadn’t had my period, had been throwing up, and having thicker discharge. I took a test and bam. Pregnancy.”
“You should have said something,” Denzel sighed, pouring the hot water into the mug in front of her. Charm was thankful for the hot tea. She sipped it up quickly. Denzel looked at her. The sadness was so evident in her face, it worried him. After what Brianna told him, he knew he couldn’t just let their relationship die without trying to get her back. And she’d told him why she was crying. It meant that she wasn’t done loving him.
“I’m gonna go take a shower,” Charm said, snapping him from his thoughts. “I should take advantage of having a full bathroom while I can. The gallery doesn’t have a shower. Which I should probably change.” Denzel only nodded, as she got up and left the kitchen. She brought her bag of clothes with her to the bathroom.
While she showered, Denzel got the bed ready for her, so she could have a good sleep. When she came out of the shower, she was changed into her night clothes, as if she didn’t want him to see her naked. Denzel got up and went to take his shower without saying anything to her. He didn’t know what his problem was, but he couldn’t get the damn words that he needed out of his mouth. Charm was at his place again, in his bed, carrying his seed. She was his. Always was. And he needed to say that.
After his shower, in his bedroom, Charm was already laying in bed under the covers. He dressed in his underwear and contemplated on what he was going to do next.
“Don’t leave me,” she called out.
“I won’t,” he said. He cut out the light and got in bed next to her. “Charm, look at me.” She turned on her side and looked at him, the moonlight from the window allowing her to see him dimly.
“I don’t wanna do this co-parenting shit,” he admitted. She was ready to pull back from him, but Denzel pulled her into his body.
“I don’t wanna do it in the sense that we wouldn’t be together. We will always co-parent, but I want us together, Charm. I want you in my life as my woman and the mother of my baby. I couldn’t accept anything less. I know I’ve said some things that don’t deserve forgiving, but I’ve been miserable. Earlier you said you were crying because you were having a baby by the man you loved who didn’t want you. Well, I want you, Charm. I want you bad. And I know you want to divorce Terrell, and I will be there for you no matter how hard it gets. You’re my responsibility now, along with my baby. It’s just not right if I don’t claim you. That, plus, I’m so madly in love with you.” Denzel wiped a tear that fell down her cheek with his thumb. He leaned forward and kissed her lips softly. She whimpered and kissed him back, before wrapped her arms around his neck and deepening the kiss. Denzel was hard in under a minute. He pushed his arousal into her stomach so she knew how much her kisses affected him.
“I missed you so fucking much,” He said trailing his lips down her neck; kissing her collarbone. She moaned in his arms, squirming. Denzel knew what that meant. He took off the shirt she was wearing and her underwear. Once he pulled of his boxers, he rolled her over underneath him, hooking one of her legs in the crook of his arm. She pulled him down to her lips as his erection found her opening. Her liquid heat welcomed him in with open arms. She moaned into his mouth as he filled her up.
“More,” she cried out. Denzel buried himself inside her slowly. She screamed in ecstasy as her walls trembled and she came. Denzel cursed and began rocking into her, slowly deep stroking her. He missed being inside her so much his dick was weeping fluids; already ready to succumb to her pleasure.
Their kisses matched the stroke of his dick inside her. It was slow and passionate and wet. When he got too deep, she would push at his stomach, but all he wanted was to be deep inside her.
Charm couldn’t catch her breath with the way he was grinding inside her. Then he hooked her other leg in the crook of his arm, opening her up wide to his thrusts. He pulled all the way out of her then sunk back into her and repeated the same notion over and over again driving her crazy.
“I’m coming,” she gasped, as the thickness of his head circled around his g-spot. “Don’t stop, please don’t stop,” she moaned.
“Fuckkkk….” He drawled out, feeling her come on his shaft. Unwilling to hold back, he kept thrusting into her throbbing sheath until he was erupting inside her. This was the first time he’d emptied himself completely inside her, and the force of the pleasure, nearly broke his back and cramped at his toes. She was singing as she orgasmed again at just feeling his release inside her.
“I love you,” she squealed, as she came.
“I love you too,” he breathed. He looked down at her stomach before inching out of her. He shimmied down and kissed her belly.
“And you too,” he said. Charm giggled. For the first time, in what seemed like a long while, she had butterflies in her stomach as happiness began to blossom for her again.

“You know, I hope it’s a girl,” Brianna said. Like Charm had planned, she’d arranged for an appointment to see her doctor the next week. Both Brianna and Jason accompanied her and Denzel to the clinic, because they didn’t want to be left out. Charm was pretending to be excited and ready, and though she was happy that she had Denzel had mended some things she was internally panicking. Having another ultrasound; she was scared shitless for bad news.
“Whoa, me and Charm already has a deal. I’m going to name her kids,” Jason said. “So don’t even think about it, Brianna.”
“So I guess I don’t have a say in what I name my kid,” Denzel spoke up.
“Oh, don’t be like that,” Jason waved him off.
“Charm Bradley!” The nurse called. Jason and Brianna hopped up like it was their name being called. Charm got up much more slowly. Her heart was racing.
“What’s wrong?” Denzel asked, sensing her hesitation.
“I’m scared,” she whispered.
“Of what?” He asked.
“An ultrasound. I don’t want them to tell me anything is wrong.” Denzel put his
arm around her and continued walking to the room.
“I’m right here to handle it with you,” he said. “I won’t leave you hanging with those emotions like Terrell did. It’s me and you, baby. We’re going get through it together.” Charm nodded and took a deep breath.
“Change into this, Ms. Bradley, and I’ll get some blood from you.” Charm took the pink gown and the nurse left the room. Charm started undressing, but then Denzel cleared his throat. He was looking at Jason. He twirled his finger in a circle, telling Jason to turn around.
“Seriously?” Jason asked. Denzel shrugged, but was insistent that Jason turned around. Charm smiled and shook her head as she took off her sundress and replaced it with the pink gown. Once she was changed, Denzel helped her into the bed. The nurse came back ready to take her blood to test it.
“Alright, the test will be ready soon, hang in there.” The nurse sent her blood down to the lab an another nurse came in to take her vitals. Denzel didn’t know it, but with Charm’s history of miscarriages, they wanted to test her blood immediately. That’s why she was at a clinic with their own lab, so her results would be ready within a half hour.
“Everything seems fine,” The nurse said. “Vitals are all good. Of course, there are obvious signs of your pregnancy. But other than that, I wouldn’t say there should be anything to worry about. Just hang tight for the blood tests.”
“Can’t you figure out what’s going on with just an ultrasound?” Denzel asked.
“Yes, but in Ms. Bradley’s case, she had a miscarriage, and with an ultrasound, it may show us the fetus, but it won’t let us know if she will have a chance of miscarrying. The blood test will show us that.” Denzel nodded in understanding. He took Charm’s hand and held it tight. He knew she was nervous as hell about it.
Her anxiety increased later when the nurse returned with the test results. She read it and the look on her face made Charm groan.
“Please no,” she whispered. Denzel kissed her cheek and hugged her tightly.
“I’m here, baby,” he said.
“What does it say?” Denzel asked. The nurse didn’t respond with an answer.
“I think it’s time to do the ultrasound.” She opened the front of Charm’s gown and squirted her stomach with blue gel. She turned on the machine and got down to business.
“Charm, did you know how far along you were?” She asked.
“I assumed just about a month or so.” The doctor peeked her head out from behind the monitor.
“Your HCG levels are high, Charm. There’s no sign of a possible miscarriage.” Charm let out a deep breath.
“So then why’d you make that face?!” Charm exclaimed.
“Because you’re three months pregnant. I wanted to see the baby before I told you. And well, you’re three months along, for sure.” This time, Denzel and Charmed gasped and looked at each other.
“You knocked me up the first time we made love!” She accused.
“I pulled-” He stopped then. “Or… Maybe I was a second too late on that one,” he said. Charm slapped him playfully.
“I can’t believe this,” Charm giggled.
“Can we see our baby?” Denzel asked. The nurse smiled a bright smile at them.
“You mean babies.” She turned the screen. “Twins.” Denzel stood up abruptly, in shock. He glared at the monitor, and sure enough, there were two floating fetuses.
“You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me,” He gasped. Brianna and Jason started clapping and laughing at their shock.
“It’s too early to know the gender, but I can confirm that right now, you have two healthy babies in that belly of yours. So I’ll print the picture and get you some vitamins to keep them feeling good.” Denzel looked down at Charm.
“We’re having twins, baby,” he said, still in shock.
“Two babies, I can’t beli-” Charm stopped talking and gasped. Her dream. Her dream of those two toddlers rolling around calling her ‘mama.’ Tears came to her eyes instantly. She was already pregnant, and she was dreaming about the twins she would have. How about that for fate? Now all she had to do was have two more kids, and she’d have back all the babies she’s lost.
Chapter Twenty-Three
Terrell marched through his home angrily. He was trying to stop Charm from moving her things from the house, but she wasn’t budging. Now, Jason, and that man she was fucking, was here with her. Terrell felt like a sitting duck just watching his woman being taken out of his life. Destiny was following him around, with her round belly, just yapping in his ear, and he just about had enough.
“Come here,” Terrell said, yanking at Charm’s arm. Denzel and Jason were outside, so he had slammed the door shut and locked it so they couldn’t get in.
“Are you really leaving me for a broke ass painter?” He asked.
“It’s time you got over that,” Charm said. She had this smirk on her face, like she was making fun of him. Terrell’s hand itched to smack the smile off her face.
“Charm, how could you do this to me?!” He shrieked.
“Oh please, save the damn drama.” She backed away defensively, holding her stomach. Terrell hadn’t noticed it until then.
“Why you holding your stomach?” He asked. He slapped her hand away, and saw the evident curve.
“You’re pregnant?” He gasped. “But-but how?!”
“I think you know the how.” Terrell shook his head.
“Get rid of it! Get rid of it right now! I’ll pay for it if I have to! But that’s supposed to be my fucking baby in you! Not another man’s!”
“You’re already having a baby by someone,” Charm gritted, getting in his face. “So leave me the fuck alone, because I’m going to have my baby, and it’s by a man who fucking deserves it!”
“Well, go right the fuck ahead!” Terrell pushed her down to the ground. She fell on her ass with a squeal.
“Be all high and fucking mighty, Charm! What are you? 13 weeks or something? It won’t be long now. You’re gonna lose this one, just like you lost all four of my babies. This shit ain’t no difference. And when it happens, I hope you sit in a hospital room and see my face saying ‘I told you so.’”
The kitchen door burst open and Denzel rushed into the house. He saw Charm on the ground, with tears sliding down her cheeks, and Terrell hovering over. Denzel blacked out. When he came to, Charm was at his ear, begging him to stop. He had his hands wrapped around Terrell’s throat, squeezing hard. Terrell already had breathing problems now, because of the shooting, so being choked was the easiest way to kill his ass.
“Denzel! Me and your babies need you! Don’t do this!” Denzel slowly snapped out of his haze. He let Terrell go immediately.
“You ever put your hands on her again, it ain’t gonna look too good for you.” Terrell took his inhaler out of his pocket hastily, so he could pump the medicine to his lungs. Denzel led his crying woman out of the house quickly, and to his car. They’d packed up most of her things anyway, so Denzel didn’t mind leaving. He took her straight to the gallery, so they could both paint and calm down.
“Are you hurt?” He asked, giving her a once over once they were inside.
“No, I’m fine,” she sobbed.
“Oh, baby, just talk to me.”
“I’m sorry, Denzel,” she cried. “I’m sorry that I’m going to end up losing your babies.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I didn’t just have one miscarriage!” She exclaimed. “I had four! And Destiny… She wasn’t just his mistress or a friend. She was at our house because she was going to be my surrogate.” Denzel had no words.
“Four miscarriages, Denzel! Who’s to say this won’t be my fifth and sixth one?! I’m so sorry that I’m not strong enough to hold your babies. Terrell reminded me how all my pregnancies end. And I-” Her words got lost as she put her head in her hands and cried. Denzel looked at her for a long time before he turned sharply and walked away. He went down to the basement and grabbed the large painti
ng he’d made for Charm when he first realized she had a miscarriage. He was scared to know she had four miscarriage and the chances were high that she could have another one, but Denzel really wasn’t going to give up. Her tests were all positive and he wasn’t going to live in concern when he didn’t have to. He brought the painting right back to Charm and put it on an easel. He took her hands from her face.
“Look,” he said. She sniffled and looked at the painting. She remembered when she drew the painting of her lost baby, but this was something else. Denzel had transformed it into something so beautiful, representing something peaceful, and the fact that life does go on.
“You’re about to have two rainbow babies,” Denzel said. “I have no problem giving you two more rainbow babies after these two, just so you can have the four children you have lost. But loss is a common thing, Charm. Hell, I lost a baby I didn’t even know existed. But I believe that things come back to you. I believe that me and you were meant to have babies together. This woman in the painting, she’s happy knowing she has angels watching over her now. I know it’s hard, Charm. I can’t imagine how fucking hard it is. But I am here with you. I promise I ain’t going no fucking where. Don’t think about loss, when you have life growing inside you, Charm. And up until the day, if you miscarriage, we’re not gonna think about the chance of you losing the babies. All we’re going to think about right now is life. I’m a nervous wreck about the babies. Because I’m a man with intense anger issues. Me, as a father? That shit scares the fuck out of me. But I’m not going to focus on that negative.” He pulled Charm closer to the painting.
“Do I make you happy?” He whispered.
“Yes,” she replied.
“You make me happy,” he told her, kissing her cheek. “And I wanna live in happiness, even if times are hard, because I’m with you. And we’re gonna have twins,” he smiled. “Hope you’re ready to breastfeed on both breasts, as the same time.” He pinched her nipples, teasing her. Charm actually laughed. She hugged him.
“Thanks so much.” The gallery door opened, and Jason, James, and Brianna, entered.
