Analee, in Real Life

Analee’s Rules for Happiness
1. There are no rules for happiness. You’ll be happy, then you’ll be sad, then you’ll be happy again. Enjoy the happiness when you have it. When you don’t have it, remember: it’ll come again. You just have to be open to it.
2. Chocolate also helps.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
The idea of me publishing a book used to be pure fantasy. I’m still processing the fact that I’ve been lucky enough to do it twice in real life, and I owe much of it to an amazing group of people.
To my fierce agent, Jane Dystel, thanks for being a constant advocate of me and my writing. Jane, I am grateful for your tenacity and assuredness. Miriam Goderich, thank you for your openness and continued guidance as I navigate the world of publishing. I so appreciate both of you looking out for me.
Jen Ung, the greatest editor in existence, you deserve an entire book of thank-yous. I’m forever grateful for your encouragement and kindness. I’m not sure how you do it, but somehow even your edit letters always leave me smiling. Your feedback has made me a far, far better writer.
Massive thanks to the team at Simon & Schuster for the incredible work they do: Mara Anastas, Chriscynethia Floyd, Liesa Abrams, Caitlin Sweeny, Nicole Russo, Christina Pecorale, Rebecca Vitkus, Sara Berko, Michelle Leo, and Samantha Benson. Thank you, Nina Simoneaux, for designing this beyond-gorgeous cover. I will gaze lovingly at it for the rest of my days!
All the thanks in the world to my family—to Mom and Dad, for supporting me in every possible way, from book launch planning to educational marketing; to Alyssa, for being a fierce copy editor and “publicitor” and for teaching me the importance of using gifs; to Nick, for helping me figure out what I want to say and the best way to say it; and to Alex, for coming up with the perfect name for this book’s main character.
Mima, me has enseñado tener pasión por todo lo que hago. Gracias por siempre creer en mi y por ayudarme a creer en mi misma. ¡Te quiero mucho mucho!
To the Mulhalls and Sanzos, a big thank-you for spreading the word about my books and being there for me. Massive thanks to my friends who help me survive the periods of stress and anxiety. I appreciate all of you so, so much. Thanks for always showing up to support me.
Thank you to all the book bloggers and librarians out there who champion diverse authors. I am so grateful to those of you who gave Victoria a chance and hope you love Analee just as much.
Finally, thank you to my husband, Dan. D-Train, you are the best partner, friend, and husband imaginable, and now you can add “father” to that list. Thank you for washing baby bottles while I finish copy edits, for scheduling writing days whenever we can squeeze them in, and for the countless other things you do.
