“Yep.” He grinned and knelt in front of her, taking her hands in his. “Navajo call us skin walkers. They would say we have big glowing eyes, no genitalia, and we steal a being’s ‘skin.’”

“Ew. I don’t like their version.” She scrunched up her nose.

“The Hopi call it ya-ya. It’s a sacred ceremony no one knows about unless they go through it.” He shrugged. “None of us have gone through this ya-ya. So, I think it happens to be the energy here in the hills. When the white man started pushing the Native Americans from their homes, the wolves were created to protect those families who were hiding.”

“So, you’re like the Twilight werewolves? Protectors?”

“The what?” He gave her a perplexed look.

“Never mind. Her vampires sparkled. Not a good thing. Vampires should never sparkle,” she rambled.

  “Vampires don’t exist.”

“But wolves do? Are you sure? I mean, just because you haven’t seen one doesn’t mean they can’t exist. Hello, shifters are real.” She tapped her chin. “This is really weird. Are you sure you’re the only ones?”

“Technically. However, wolves aren’t the only shifters,” he replied.

“Of course not. What else is there?”

“Coyotes. Birds. You know, animals.” He squeezed her hands. “Los Lobos is full of humans and shifters.”

“That’s totally cool. Coyotes and birds— Wait, what? The whole town is full of shifters and humans?” Did that mean Elle had been keeping this secret from her for all these years? Hadn’t she been a trustworthy-enough friend to explain? Hadn’t she stuck up for her when she did kooky things in front of others? Confusion morphed into anger. Seemed he-who-shall-not-be-named wasn’t the only one lying to her.

“Before you go getting your superhero panties into a twist, we have been taught from an early age not to tell anyone and to do so would mean certain death.”

“So why are you telling me now?” As much as she understood the abstract parts of this, Sayer left out some pretty important facts. Like, if she wasn’t supposed to know about them, why had she’d been allowed in their town and well…everything.

“It’s time. I thought I could wait till the Solstice.” He stood before gathering her in his arms and bringing her to the bed. “You’re what we call a mate. The one person who completes us. You’re special.”

“If I’m so special, why did you treat me so shitty?”

“I’m an asshole. I have no excuse other than you scared the shit out of me. You could destroy me with one breath and save my life in the next.” He dragged his finger down the front of her shirt. “All the emotions you’ve been feeling. The longing. The sexual hunger. It’s all part of being a mate.”

“So, you are a sex god?”

He laughed. “I’m just a wolf.”

She pursed her lips. “Somehow I believe you’re more than a wolf.”

“Are you okay with it?” The hopefulness along with fear and a hint of rejection clouded his gaze.

  “I…yeah, I guess so. I can’t obviously deny what I saw.”

He yipped and pounced on her. In a blink of an eye, he had her shirt off and his faced buried between her breasts, licking and nibbling on her flesh. He groaned her name. “Thank you.” He licked the curve of her breast, before pulling the cup of her bra down to expose her nipple. She arched to him as his mouth covered the tight peak.

“You’re welcome.” She moaned and fisted his hair. “Wait.”

He looked up at her, his mouth still wrapped around the hard point.

“Do you have sex in wolf form?”

He blinked and released her nipple. “No. Why?”

“Oh good. I’m not sure how I feel about animal sex. I mean, I like when you’re an animal with me, but not, you know, a real animal. More metaphorically.”

  “You’re rambling.”

“Sorry.” She took a deep breath, trying to slow down the rapid beat of her heart. “You’ve thrown me a curve ball here. I’m trying to process it.”

“Shut up and let me make you feel better then you can ask me all the questions in the world if you wish.” He went back to tasting and teasing her. He placed open-mouth kisses down her stomach, while he worked open her pants.

  “Fine. Brute.”

Sayer grinned against the curve of her hip as he pushed her jeans out of the way. “If I were a sensitive man, my feelings might be hurt.” He nipped her playfully while fitting his hands into her pants to grab her ass.

“I’m not buying it.” She writhed below him, her fingers speared his hair. She tugged the band he used free, and his hair fell in his face. “You should leave your hair like this more often.”

He gazed up at her. “Why?”

“Gives you an ancient savage quality. Oh! Viking.” She practically purred. “Definitely one of those muscle-bound, pillaging-type Vikings.”

The scent of her arousal curled around him. “So you want to be ravaged?”

She nodded and continued to squirm.

“I can do that.” He yanked her pants off in one swift move then ripped her panties away. Her soft gasp shot straight to his groin, while the aroma of sugarplums grew thicker by the second. Her tempting little pussy glistened with her cream, and his mouth watered. “Hang on.”

Burying his face between her thighs, he inhaled as he nuzzled her sex. He forced himself to take his time and savor what would come next. Tonight, he planned on making her mark bigger. He planned on letting his pack know she belonged to him. Running his tongue through her slit, he groaned. Her sweet nectar saturated his taste buds, leaving him craving more. Her soft inhale and the lift of her hips gave him an open invitation to take more—not as if he needed it. He didn’t.

Sayer swirled his tongue around her clit before dipping low to spear her entrance and gather more of her sweetness. The wolf in him reveled in her acquiescence. The way she drew her nails over his scalp leaving pinpricks of pain in its wake. He moaned against her flesh and was rewarded with a fresh wash of her juices. So fucking responsive. He could keep his face between her thighs all night, but he had more in store for them. He slid his palm up her body and captured her nipple with his fingers. As he squeezed the hard point, he sucked her clit into his mouth. Her cry of pleasure echoed off the walls.

Hell yeah! He did it again, this time before he latched onto her clit then filled her with two fingers. He reward was instantaneous. She shattered in his arms, riding his face with everything she was worth. He loved the fact she wasn’t shy in bed. She took what she wanted, when she wanted it. Even when she was pissed off at him. He licked and sucked at her sopping-wet flesh taking as much of her honey as was physically possible. When he pulled his fingers from her, he cleaned those, too.

“Come here.” The rough tone of his voice didn’t surprise him. He rode the edge of the line between wolf and man. Extending his hand, he waited for her to take it, and when she did, he pulled her up into a sitting position. “You’re going to ride me.”

“Huh?” Her eyes were heavy lidded and her body was completely relaxed.

“Ride me.” He flipped his position so he sat against the headboard.

“Oh.” A coy little smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. “Ride you.” She climbed up onto his lap then placed her hands on his shoulders.

“You know what to do.” The intense satisfaction of having her position the head of his cock at her pussy had his balls aching to the point of pain.

She reached between them and teased him. Back and forth she rubbed the tip of his erection through her slick folds, dripping her cream onto him. Instinct demanded he pin her to the bed and fuck her till he found his release, but he let her have her way. Soon, he’d take what he needed. Soon, he’d make her scream his name. Her playfulness ceased though as she lined him up and sat down. Inch by glorious inch, he filled her. The muscles of her pussy rippled and adjusted to his intrusion. She didn’t stop until their bodies met and he w
as fully inside her.

He groaned and gripped her hips. She could unman him without even trying. The snug fit, coupled with the knowledge of what he meant to do, already had him teetering on the edge. How long he’d be able to hold off, he didn’t know, but he promised himself he’d make it good for her before he busted. Kizzy rolled her hips, and lifted up at the same time. Her fingernails dug into his skin, sending pinpricks of pleasure snapping down his spine. He let her take the lead, only fisting her hair to bring her mouth down to his, so he could ravage her it and take what was his.

Swallowing her moan, he tangled his tongue with hers, mimicking the way she fucked him, in long slow thrusts. She drove him wild. She made his blood boil and caused the insane need to hurry the process up. He held back. Determined to let her do what she wanted. To let her come on his cock as much as she wanted. To wring his release from him. He growled, and tightened his grip, meeting her thrust for thrust. Did she know how much she unhinged him? Probably not, but he’d show her.

“Fuck me, Kizzy. Hard.” Her eyes slammed open, and the desire he saw glazing them, only served to turn him on more. “You can do it.” He showed her how he needed her. The harsh thrust and the added bounce of her lush body had him tensing up. “That’s it, beautiful. You got this.”

His head smacked the wall behind the bed as she ground her pelvis against his. She jerked against him, giving a startled cry of pleasure as more of her cream coated him. With one hand still fisted in her hair, keeping her gaze locked with his, he guided her over him with the other. Hard and faster, the give and take between them reached epic proportions until he couldn’t hold on any longer. Her inner walls clamped down on him to the point he thought he fucked a vise, and he let go of her hip. Fitting his hand between them, he found her distended clit and pinched the hard nub.

The first flutters of her release were like gentle kisses on the tip of his dick as he forced his way in and out of her. Then when he added more pressure to her clit, she shattered. She milked him for all she was worth and who was he to refuse the invitation. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, and let go. The low groan vibrated through his chest while the first throb of his release filled her. “Mine!” He bit down on her neck, the spot where he’d left the little mark before, and broke the skin.

“Sayer!” she screamed, tensing around him before a second orgasm washed over her, drawing the remaining seed from his body.

For long moments, he lapped at the mark while holding her close. He didn’t want to let her go. He finally had her, and no one would take her away. Her breath came in soft pants as she laid her head against his chest.

  “Wow.”

  He grinned. “Are you okay?”

“If by okay you mean, I-got-fucked-by-a-sex-god wolf? Then yes. I’m okay.” She touched the area of her neck. “You bit me.”

“I did,” he agreed. “It lets the other wolves know you belong to me.”

  “Whoa.”

“Indeed.” He kissed her forehead. “This is why no one could tell you but me. I’m sorry I was a fool. I’m sorry I hurt you so bad you wanted to leave me.”

She cupped his face in her hands. “Don’t ever do it again. If you want me to trust you and vice versa, no more secrets, okay?”

“No more secrets.” In one swift move, he rolled them. “Now, if you don’t mind, I’m ready for round two.”

“Already?” She giggled as he dipped his head, took her nipple into his mouth, and bit the peak.

“Wolf stamina.” He pulled out then surged forward. “Quick recovery time. I can go all night.”

“Oh my,” she muttered. “I’ve created a monster.”

  Chapter Ten

The morning of the Winter Solstice Festivities….

Kizzy snuggled down into their bed and sighed. The warmth of Sayer’s body spooning hers made her want to stay under the covers all day. But they couldn’t. They had things to do, including her talking to her BFF about this whole wolf thing. The thing she’d refused to tell her about. The whole pink elephant wearing the garish lime-green tutu in a room full of freaking zombies!

Though she supposed her best friend had a good reason to keep it a secret, didn’t she trust her? Hadn’t Kizzy proven time and time again she could be counted on? Her mind swirled with questions she’d asked herself several times over the last few days. It did no good until she got the answers she needed from the horse’s mouth.

“You’re thinking too hard. How can you wake up and five minutes later your mind is moving a million miles an hour?” His arm banded around her.

“A gift. Or a curse. Depends on where you stand with it, and how annoying I get.”

He chuckled. “Why don’t you shower? You’re going to have to meet Drew today.”

“Ah, the man whose name I can recall in an instant but whose face I have never seen.” She rolled into him then nipped his chin. “I was just thinking to myself, self, today would be an awesome day to find this Drew and say hello. We should go meet him.”

He grunted and pressed his lips to her forehead. “Good, because he wants to meet you, too.” Sayer threw the covers back and got out of bed. He lit the fire then grabbed his pants and tugged them on. Leaving the top button undone, he walked to the door. “I’m going to turn on the generator. Give the water five minutes and it’ll be warm.”

“You sure I can’t tempt you to stay in bed?” She gave a playful wiggle of her ass.

He growled. The soulful sexy sound had her wet in an instant. “As much as I would love to spend the day inside you, taking what is mine, we have stuff to do. Later, though, I won’t be responsible for what happens.” He gave her any equally teasing wink.

“It’s a deal.” She scooted out of bed and walked to the bathroom door. “You going to go wolf on me?”

The only indication he gave her was a wolfish grin.

“I see how it is.” She closed the door and waited. Soon, the warm glow filled the room and she turned on the water. When it was warm, she stepped beneath the spray and washed up. The idea of meeting Drew held a note of finality. She kind of figured out who the man was the night they spent in Aberdeen. Drew is their alpha. Which begs the question, who took on the role of beta? The hierarchy has to be the same as a true pack of wolves, right? Although he called them werewolves which made even more sense.

The door opened a crack, and a cup appeared on the counter across from her. A giddy happiness filled her. She loved hot chocolate, and knowing the gentle giant she could now call her mate shared his stash with her made her heart soar.

“Thank you,” she called out while rinsing the suds from her body.

“You’re welcome.” His booming voice reverberated through the door and sent a shiver of longing down her spine.

The last two days seemed like a lifetime ago. Heck, what had only been a week and some change felt like years. Sure, some of the stuff he told her about the pack confused her, but she’d figure it out on her own. Plus, after the short and woefully lacking in information conversation about the pack, she knew Los Lobos needed help. So, she’d donate her time and money to help do whatever could be done for them.

She stepped out of the tub, wrapped one of the towels around her then grabbed the cup off the counter, and took a sip. The sugary sweetness slid down her throat and hit her stomach. Warmth bloomed there, chasing away the early morning chill. She dressed in record time then joined Sayer in the kitchen. A man sat at his table, a cup of coffee in his hand and a congenial smile curving his lips. She glanced at her mate. “I wasn’t expecting visitors.” And she had no say on who came by to see Sayer and who didn’t.

“I thought, what’s the point of you coming to me when I was already out?”

  Drew. Had to be him.

The man didn’t offer his hand, instead staring at her with an open curiosity. “I’m Drew.”

“Because walking through a foot of snow in below-freezing temperatures is just a jog in the park.” She winced. Som
etimes, her natural inclination toward sarcasm got her into trouble.

Drew laughed. “You can say it’s something like that, sure. Sit. Let’s talk.”

The way he said “sit, let’s talk,” sounded more like, “the better to see you with” or the “better to eat you with, m’dear.” “Sure. Why not. If you’re the spider, I’m the fly.”

“You’re rambling, Kizzy.” Sayer stepped behind her, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “He won’t hurt you.”

Yet, the raw dominant power radiating from the man said differently. She fully realized the man sitting near her, though relaxed and completely at ease, could rip her throat out without even batting an eye.

“She doesn’t believe you. We’ll have to work on that.”

“You make me nervous,” she said. “I can’t pin you down.”

He canted his head to the side, still watching her with keen interest. “Has Sayer told you about the pack?”

“Some, yes. He said you’ve had a bad go of things and a horrible alpha who hurt a ton of people.” When he began to explain who Magnum was and what he did, it all made sense why Elle ran away. She would have done the same. Yet, the withdrawal of emotions or, better yet, the fear he tried to hide whenever he mentioned Magnum’s name, worried her.

“He was being generous. Magnum was my father.”

She gasped and covered her mouth with her hand. A knot of sick dread filled her stomach. She chanced at look at her mate and saw the impassive gleam in his eyes. She didn’t know what to say to Drew’s admission. She tried to be angry at him, fear him, yet the people seemed happy with him as their leader. “Why do I have a bad feeling about this?”

“Did he tell you about how his parents died?”

The warning growl from Sayer didn’t faze the man sitting across from her.

“No. Well yes. He told me it was a home invasion of some kind.”

He sighed and looked to Sayer. “You should tell her everything.”

Yes, he should. But, she knew from talking to him, the trauma had been too much for him and, in all honesty, she didn’t want him bringing it back up if it hurt him even more. “He doesn’t have to. I got the gist of it.”
