Always Jack
Page 10
There’s a special embrace to my friends who have been through the journey. Some are survivors — Inga Gray, Sharon Rundle and Lynne Celler — while others have passed on to another life — Sandy Campbell, Eileen Collins and my beloved father, Zoltan Gervay.
Another thank you goes to my beautiful family and friends for their love and support during difficult times, as I am a multiple cancer survivor.
I would also like to thank my publisher, Lisa Berryman, for her support.
I wrote Always Jack for the children, so they know that they are loved and that their community cares for them.
Susanne Gervay’s Always Jack makes it safe for children, parents and the wider community to talk about cancer.

From the Author:
I live at Bondi Beach with my two kids and their stepdad. We love the surf, sun and sand which are part of the JACK books. My JACK books are funny, warm and crazy sometimes, like my kids and Nanna who wobbles when she walks. The characters are inspired by my children, community and the crazy, unexpected events of life.
I wrote I Am Jack after my son won his battle against school bullying. It’s become an important book, helping make no-to-bullying policies work. How special is that? I wrote SuperJack when our family blended, to make it OK for kids to talk about new parents and siblings. I feel that’s special too. Now I’ve written Always Jack.
When I got breast cancer, I cried — not because of myself, but because my kids needed me. We got through with some help from Jack’s jokes and the support of friends and community. I wrote Always Jack for families who go through cancer to share the journey; and to invite other kids and community to join in.
My family, friends and I walk in the 24-hour Cancer Council’s Relay for Life to celebrate and commemorate those touched by cancer. I hope that Always Jack does that too.
