"You two are too tough!" said the Black Bear and took off.
"Are you okay, Mister ...?" said Chief Hiawatha as he transformed back into a human. Chief Hiawatha went up to the Japanese man and looked him over. In a couple places his cloths were in tatters, but he had not a scratch on him.
"Johnny. Johnny Kobayashi. Yeah, I will be okay." answered Johnny Kobayashi. "I was out here chopping wood and then this Black Bear attacked me. Then a Bison, or you, or whatever... What is going on here?!"
"I could say the same thing about you!" answered Chief Hiawatha. "However that Black Bear is of more pressing concern!"
Chief Hiawatha changed back into the Gray Wolf and took off. Chief Hiawatha will talk to that Johnny Kobayashi character later. Right now, Chief Hiawatha had a Black Bear to hunt and a Edward Lightfeather to bring to justice.
Engelhard #8
(2015/11/08)
"Come with me, Sandra Padgett." said Priscilla Engelhard placing her hand on Sandra Padgett's shoulder. "My brother can be a tad over dramatic sometimes. I'll make us some coffee."
Priscilla Engelhard lead Sandra Padgett to the kitchen. There Priscilla Engelhard started the coffee maker. "I am sure you have many questions for me. We have time, you may asked them of me."
"So, God is really real?" asked Sandra Padgett. Priscilla Engelhard nodded and so Sandra Padgett continued. "Alright then, why does he allow suffering and evil?"
"That is a good question." said Priscilla Engelhard. "And one that starts at the Beginning. God has always been and always will be, and of course the innumerable angels too. Back then, there were only four Choirs of Angels-"
"Choirs?" asked Sandra Padgett as Priscilla Engelhard poured coffee for the both of them.
"The four original Choirs of Angels," continued Priscilla Engelhard without explaining further. "Included the Seraphim, Caretaker Angels headed up by the Archangel Metatron. Servants of God. They also make sure God's Will is carried out amongst the Heavenly Host. The next Choir was the Cherubim, Counselor Angels headed up the then Archangel Lucifer." ("Oh, I recognized that name." said Sandra Padgett.) "They are the Keepers of God's Law in Heaven. We know them as a prosecutor or an accuser here on Earth. Then the Ophanim, Minister Angels headed up by the Archangel Phanuel. 'Wheels' and 'Thrones' are what humans sometimes call these angels. In Heaven they minister to the other angels. The fourth original Choir was just everyone else.
"Well of course, you know that the Archangel Lucifer started his little war. Thought he WAS the Law and that is why he thought he could raise to be higher than God." continued Priscilla Engelhard. "Of course, that was silly. Lucifer and six other angels were able to convinced a third of the innumerable to make war with their creator. Hard proof of their creator's existence and they still rebelled. How is that for you?
"Anyway, even before the war, God had been set about making the physical realm." continued Priscilla Engelhard. "He made two gardens, or planets, Earth and Eden. The Earth Garden was set up and left to its own devices. He pushed the evolution of humans into his own image, but otherwise was going to sit back and watch what happened. The Eden Garden was going to be different. God made Adam so he could interact with. Then the boy got restless and so God made Eve. They were both set apart to be his chosen. However when Lucifer whispered into Eve's ear and got her to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good And Evil, God was filled with sorrow. He moved Adam and Eve to the Earth Garden and they both started the Hebrew people, God's Chosen, along with the other humans.
"So all of Creation learned an important lesson. Those with agency will choose, proof or not. However God wanted worshipers and followers, not salves and so will not force even His creations to do what He wants." continued Priscilla Engelhard. "So He kept with His chosen people, until the Lord Jesus came along. Then God decreed that the Word should be spread among all humans.
"So you see," continued Priscilla Engelhard. "While God does have a plan for us, whatever that may be, God gave us free will. There is evil and suffering, because we choose it to be. Lucifer and other Demons may be able to whisper in your ear, but only you have the choice to listen or not."
***
Outside, Priscilla Engelhard gave Sandra Padgett a hug. "You must not forget that you have a true second chance. Do not waste it."
"I won't." said Sandra Padgett, both Priscilla Engelhard and Sandra Padgett were all smiles. "My dad offered me a job. I think I will take it."
Hawkfox Delta #8
(2015/11/09)
BANG! BANG! BANG!
The three gunshots rang out inside the Chinese market store deep in the heart of Leftover Hills.
Westgate Sentinel was gone. With only a handful of WCPD personnel and ill-equipped superheroes, the city of millions was now ripe to explode with the criminal underworld that has so long been held into check. Westgate City is only just now waking up to the new horrors that lay before them all.
Hawkfox Delta was flying around helping coordinate cleanup efforts and keeping an eye out for further looters after the riots. Hearing the gunshots, Hawkfox Delta stopped mid-air hoping to catch where the gunshots came from. Then he saw three ski-mask wearing thugs exit a Chinese market store with filled bags.
"Gun fire at the Marlberry Blossom Trail store!" yelled Hawkfox Delta into the radio. Being so tired and emotionally drained, Hawkfox Delta didn't care about EMS codes right now. "Send ambulances immediately!"
Hawkfox Delta put on his latex gloves on the way down. Hawkfox Delta flapped his wings one last time before landing and was confronted by scared customers as they came out of the store. It took half a minute, but Hawkfox Delta was able to push his way in without touching anyone or anything. Unaware to Hawkfox Delta, he stepped on a "Gun Free Zone" sign that the store owner had posted just a few days ago.
Three people were shot. A store clerk (Hawkfox Delta did not know if this was the owner or not) was dead lying on the counter top. An old man with Vietnam War veteran cap sat on the floor with a gunshot wound on his shoulder. And what appeared to be a pregnant woman lying on the floor.
Hawkfox Delta skipped over the dead Chinese store clerk. Sadly, there was nothing he could do for the poor middle-age man. Hawkfox Delta's job was to fight the for the living and so he moved on.
Another Chinese store clerk was already helping the Vietnam War veteran. He had gotten some towels and was applying pressure on the gun shot wound. Hawkfox Delta stopped briefly.
"You going to be okay, sir?" ask Hawkfox Delta as he got out a small morphine needle out. "You're doing good, keep the pressure up."
"Yeah," said the Vietnam War veteran groaning a little when Hawkfox Delta stuck him with the needle near the gunshot wound. "I've been shot before, in my ass no less. I'll be fine. Help the pregnant woman."
Hawkfox Delta went over to the pregnant woman. Another older woman, likely the pregnant woman's mother, was screaming at the top of her lungs. "NO! NO! JUST TWO MORE WEEKS!"
"The baby..." said the pregnant woman softly. She had been shot point blank in the chest. Hawkfox Delta check around the woman's body and found no apparent damage to the unborn baby.
"Dispatch, ETA on that ambulance? I have a code 14 here!"
ETA, ten minutes. Please advise.
'Ten minutes!' thought Hawkfox Delta with despair, ignoring Dispatch. 'Then another 10 or 15 minutes to the hospital! I could have her there in five minutes..."
"Ma'am, I can fly her to the hospital much faster!" without waiting for a response of any kind, Hawkfox Delta scooped up the pregnant woman and took off as he was out of the store.
"The baby..." said the pregnant woman again right before she died. "Save her..."
Hawkfox Delta landed at the hospital's emergency room just after the woman died. A man and a woman in scrubs came out with a gurney.
"The woman is dead." said Hawkfox Delta as he set the pregnant woman on the gurney. "Your patient is inside. Try to save the child, if you can. There has been too much death already."
The man and a woman
in scrubs both nodded and rolled the woman inside.
Hawkfox Delta just stood there. Blood soaked and in shock, he dropped to his knees and began to sob.
Sooper Zoom #8
(2015/11/07)
"Forever Girl!" said Sooper Zoom in surprised. Sooper Zoom dropped down and started clawing at the webbing. Suddenly a knife appeared in a hand with blood-red painted nails.
"Here, let me get that for you." said Forever Girl as she cut the webbings. Sooper Zoom jumped back after he was freed.
"I did not know you cared for a fair fight." said Sooper Zoom air quoting 'fair' as he stepped back. Sooper Zoom's stomach grumbling a little. Sooper Zoom pushed past it. If he could make this a short fight, he was going to be okay. "When did you turn soft?"
"Oh I have not. But what kind of a story 'And I just went up to him and stab him.' would that make? Not a very interesting one." said Forever Girl waving her knife around. "Besides, I do not think my bosses at 'The Eye' would believe me that I would just walk up and kill you anyway."
At the mention of 'The Eye' made Sooper Zoom perk up. However he did not have time to react to what Forever Girl said because suddenly, about three dozen ninjas came out of the shadows and off rooftops all running towards Sooper Zoom in every direction.
No matter how skilled the ninjas of 'The Eye' were in the end, they could never beat Sooper Zoom. Quite simply, Sooper Zoom was too fast for them. The Mexican speedster could have any of them on their back before they could blink. However what they lack in skill, they more than made up for it in numbers. Every kick, punch, and any use of his powers cost Sooper Zoom, so he made sure that he hit them hard so they go down once.
When Sooper Zoom was done with The Eye's cannon fodder, Sooper Zoom returned to the spot where he had started. This time, he was starting to get short of breath and was sweating a little. "No where were we before we were interrupted."
Sooper... Antonio, I am reading a spike in your heart rate. Are you okay, buddy? asked a very worried Saint Matt, but Sooper Zoom ignored his partner for now.
"We were about to dance, my darling." said Forever Girl with a smile. "I lead."
And off they went in a blur. And yes, it was very much almost like a dance. A fight that both have had a hundred times before. Each super power was complementary to the other. Since Forever Girl could only teleport herself to any place she saw, only for Sooper Zoom to get to her in no time. If Sooper Zoom took off and stopped, Forever Girl could follow him. A kick, a punch, a trust of the knife, and all of it went by too fast for the normal human eye to follow. However Forever Girl had a slight edge over Sooper Zoom because she did not tire in the same way Sooper Zoom did. And soon, Forever Girl connected a kick that sent Sooper Zoom flying.
For the second time tonight, Sooper tumbled onto the ground. Sooper Zoom got on his knees, but could not go much further. Sweating buckets and barely able to breathe, Sooper Zoom just waited for his fate to befall him.
"You see, my dear Sooper Zoom," said Forever Girl as she stepped up to Sooper Zoom with a loaded gun in her hand. "This is much more satisfying way to kill you."
Suddenly, a gun went off and a bullet ripped through Forever Girl's left shoulder. Forever Girl screamed as she teleport herself away. Sooper Zoom collapsed backwards. Two WCPD police officers came up to Sooper Zoom with their guns drawn and telling people to back up. One of the Westgate EMS paramedics that had ran away was with them too. Defying orders, the three had come to save Sooper Zoom when Saint Matt called them.
"Hey friend, are you doing okay?" asked the paramedic.
"I just need some water and some food. My bags are over there, behind the stairs." said Sooper Zoom as he pointed to one of the brownstones. One of the police officers got the bags of hamburgers while the paramedic feed Sooper Zoom some water. "My heroes."
Red-Eye Destrobot #8
(2003/06/28)
"Oh, Red-Eye Destrobot! There you are! I have been trying to reach you since you left last month!" said the four-armed Lord Spoda, owner of the Rock Factory, as Red-Eye Destrobot walked into Spoda's office. Lord Spoda was a bartender in his youth and got his nickname from the 'Spodas' that didn't leave a tip. In the late '80s, Lord Spoda turned to a life of crime before being arrested by Westgate Sentinel. Vowing never to return to those isolation pods, Lord Spoda choose to go legit. Selling his likeness to a major movie studio and comic book company was his down payment on the Rock Factory, a 2,100 person concert hall. "311 booked at the last minute for their 'Unity Tour' to promote their new album, Evolver, and the last two nights have been rough!"
'Things HAPPEN to me.' the laser printer spat out as Red-Eye Destrobot stood before Lord Spoda. Red-Eye Destrobot's unchanging expression looking down at his boss. Since Red-Eye Destrobot needed very little money to live, he always just shows up to the Rock Factory whenever he needed money or if Lord Spoda could reach him.
"Err, yes." said Lord Spoda looking down at the printed page. Lord Spoda still hasn't gotten used to Red-Eye Destrobot talking through his printer in all these years. "I need you bouncing the gate. Customers are starting fights in the lines and I am getting sick of them. You always break those fights up nicely. When Something Corporate takes the stage for their opening act, I need you in front of that stage."
'Bouncing The Gate' as Lord Spoda liked to call it, was never fun for Red-Eye Destrobot. People sometimes think he was a prop of some kind and try to enter the Rock Factory without getting a ticket. Red-Eye Destrobot would break fights up, but no one understood he inadvertently started them too.
Red-Eye Destrobot was taking tickets at the gate when suddenly someone yell: "YOU!"
"YOU!" yelled a clean cut surly-looking man again as he made his way through the crowd. He was eleven years older, but it was definitely the Surly Purple Giant. The man started to grow, turn purple, and grow a red bushy beard. "You hurt my friends and cost me a nice government job! You owe me!"
The Surly Purple Giant, now at full size, hit Red-Eye Destrobot through the gate into the concert hall and the metal man landed on his back. People ran screaming away from the fight. It was at this point Cheap Trick's "Reach Out" started playing out of the concert hall's PA speakers.
"FUCK ME!!" screamed Lord Spoda, who had just been in the ticket counter making sure sales were going smoothly and saw the whole thing. Picking up a phone while the ticket clerks ducked under the counter, Lord Spoda called 9-1-1. "Yes! Get the Westgate Sentinel here! Some super is rampaging at the Rock Factory! Err, why yes, the 311 concert will likely be cancelled."
Red-Eye Destrobot stood up just as the Surly Purple Giant came through the hole in the wall he just made. Red-Eye Destrobot wasn't able to move out of the way in time for the Surly Purple Giant to grab Red-Eye Destrobot to slam the robot to the ground. A couple people who stuck around to watch what happened, screamed at the shear brutally. While Red-Eye Destrobot has nigh-invulnerable to most everything, the robot was shaken by the body slam.
Since the Rock Factory is standing room only, there were no seats in the place. However there was some tables by the concession booths. Surly Purple Giant grabbed one of these tables and used it as a golf club to hit Red-Eye Destrobot onto the stage, crashing into the musical instruments.
Westgate Sentinel choose at this moment to fly through the hole in the gate and body-checked into the Surly Purple Giant. Westgate Sentinel then made short work of Surly Purple Giant by landing Sonic Punch after Sonic Punch on the pissed off giant. The press once again fell in love with the Westgate Sentinel when they heard of the heroics later.
Red-Eye Destrobot got up from under the musical instruments an hour later to see the aftermath. The place was trashed, but repairable. The WPD was too busy collecting statements of the witnesses in the Rock Factory to noticed Red-Eye Destrobot as he slowly made his way out.
Green Silk #8
(2015/11/08 and 2015/11/09)
Outside of Bethesda House, Priscilla Engelhard gave Sandra Padgett a hug. "You must not forget that you have a true second c
hance. Do not waste it."
"I won't." said Sandra Padgett, both Priscilla Engelhard and Sandra Padgett were all smiles. "My dad offered me a job. I think I will take it."
When Sandra Padgett got to her apartment, she took a long hot shower and then called her dad.
"Daddy, I am ready to come work for you." said Sandra Padgett getting right to the point.
"I'm happy you have taken up my offer, Sandra." said Dennis Padgett. "A car will pick you tomorrow to go shopping for new cloths and then bring you to the office."
***
The next day, a limo came to pick Sandra Padgett up to the shock of everyone in the building. Sandra Padgett had also packed everything that she wanted in a box and dropped her keys off with her superintendent. Sandra Padgett had also agreed to move in with her dad, temporally, until she could afford her own apartment in the Glass Towers sector of the city. Sandra Padgett went shopping buying a couple of dresses and despite herself Sandra Padgett got some cute, often sexy, underwear.
