The Invitation

"What did you mean? Just now—?" she asked breathlessly, almost hopefully.
"Demon politics." His voice was low, his breathing harsh. "It's not my place to interfere. But when I saw you—the second you came through the door—I knew I'd kill all of them if they dared touch you."
Cass swallowed hard. This was adding a whole new element to their lovemaking afterglow. Something possessive and protective and…loving.
"How—How did you know that?"
"I was at that party to find my eternal mate. The moment I saw you, I knew I'd found you."
She took a moment to digest what she already knew, deep in her heart.
"I want you to belong to me," he whispered against her neck.
She felt the sharp scrape of his fangs, knew his intent. It was an invitation unlike any she'd ever received. Unlike anything she would ever experience with another man.
"Yes," she answered without hesitation. Cass didn't feel a shred of fear or doubt. She knew exactly what she wanted.
Marcus.
Forever.
She clutched him tightly to her, whispered in his ear. "So, do you have a last name, Marcus? Or will I forever be known as Mrs. Vampire?"
He chuckled softly and the sound reverberated deep inside her. "You'll forever be known as mine," he said.
Then his sharp teeth sank into her neck and Cass felt that exquisite pleasure surge through her once more, and knew it would never end.
