Her smile grew wider, “Sorry, just thinking out loud. I’m Linda, and I’m up on the eighth floor.”

“Me too,” Cassie said, “I’m Mr. Marks assistant.”

Linda nodded, “Ah, your office is just a few doors down from mine. Maybe we can find them if we work together. I hope so anyway since it’s three minutes until nine and my boss is a bear about punctuality.”

They managed to get past the cubicles. The people in them never looked up and Cassie had already learned the hard way asking them for directions was useless. They pretty much knew where the breakrooms on each floor were, where their cubicle was, and how to get to the nearest exit. And nothing else.

They finally found the correct elevator that would allow them access to the eighth floor and when they got in and the doors closed Linda said, “Well, at least we won’t be more than a minute late.”

“No, thankfully.” Cassie was pretty sure she might be able to get by with being a touch late now and then all things considered but she didn’t want to be. She wanted to do her job well so she could advance, and she knew that while she might be able to get by with things like being late with Marks that wouldn’t fly with her next boss, and she didn’t want to start allowing herself such bad work habits.

The elevator ground to a halt. The light blinked fitfully. Cassie stared at it, her mind going black.

Linda said, “Oh my God, don’t you dare you stupid bucket of bolts.”

Cassie had a sudden fantasy, her and Linda on the floor of the elevator, her lips pressed firmly to the flesh between Linda’s thighs and her fingers inside Linda’s tight and wet pussy. Heat suffused her face and juices filled her panties. The very vividness of the fantasy made her breathless.

The elevator issued a low grumble and roar and then started moving upward again. Linda sighed with relief and said, “Boy, that was a close one.”

  “Yes, it was.” Cassie smiled.

The doors opened and the clock on the wall showed exactly one minute to nine. She and Linda hurried down the hallway quickly, each trying to get to their office before the clock could mark them as late. As she opened the door to her office Linda said, “Well I guess I’ll see you around.”

Cassie smiled and said, “I hope so,” and dashed toward the door of her office, opening it and sliding into her chair just as the clock’s hand ticked right onto the twelve and nine.

Marks opened the door between their sides of the office and she said, “I have those files for you, Sir, “in a calm and neutral voice.

She proffered them and he took them, nodded and said, “Thank you, Miss Wilson, what’s on my calendar for this afternoon?

She began to recite through his day but her mind was busy with other things. She was pleased to note she no longer had any need to fantasize about him, and she was glad because it meant now she could get her work done far more easily. He thanked her and walked back into his office and Cassie leaned back and smiled, wondering what might have happened if that elevator had frozen with her and Linda inside.

  Story 45

  Chapter One

I sat there stirring in my seat looking at the text message and wondering if I was ever going to send it. It was essentially a Dear John letter to Adam. He was a wonderful man, but we just didn’t seem to click like we should have. The sex was good, but it didn’t have that necessary component of making my toes curl. I didn’t think anybody could, but I was damned and determined to kiss my fair share of frogs.

“I’ve seen the look on your face before, Rachel. Adam is just one of many and I told you he wasn’t good enough for you. I don’t make the mistake of sugar coating or dancing around the subject. I’m one to talk and my love life isn’t exactly something to write home about. I told you about her disinterest and how she has become something of a dead fish in the sack.” Baxter was my best friend and I never could understand the reason why women looked at him like he was the second coming.

We had been there for each other through thick and thin. I was his best woman at his wedding even though I felt this pang of jealousy at him being happy. I didn’t like Michelle, but I tried to hold back my suspicions.

“Sex is only a small component in a relationship but a pivotal one. You have to decide what is right for you. Nobody can tell you what to do. I’ll always stand by you no matter what kind of decisions you make in your life. It doesn’t matter if I understand them or even agree with them.” I was trying my best to keep the subject of debate on him, but I knew better than to break his train of thought.

“Changing the subject is not going to do you any good. I know you better than I know myself. You always try to deflect to avoid talking about things. It’s like pulling teeth to get you to open up. Girls are the first that want to talk about their feelings, but you have the mentality of a man.” He was taking me up to his latest property acquisition. I was always good for a second opinion when it came to renovations and décor.

My partner Tina and I had been in business for almost 10 years with hardly any advertising. Word of mouth spread quickly and we had very little time to ourselves. It was probably one of the other contentions in any relationship I found myself in. My business was my baby and I treated her with the respect of one.

“I don’t want to talk about Adam. We’ve been drifting apart and I was hoping to make it work the second time around.” Adam was stuck in his ways and teaching an old dog new tricks wasn’t easy.

“You’re fooling yourself if you think that she can…I mean…he can change.” He had a slip of the tongue.

“It’s a woman’s prerogative to want to take something with potential and turn it into something worth a damn. I have my degree in life. I’ve always had an eye for detail. I know the trends like the back of my hand. It’s the reason why you asked for my assistance on one of my very rare day offs.” I heard the crack of thunder in the distance and there was talk about a storm skirting the area.

“You can’t treat a man like a seventies cottage lost in time. It’s all about commitment and whether or not you want to put in the hard work. Don’t kid yourself and it’s not always the man that needs to take a step back. In my case, my life would be a lot simpler without my wife feeling this need to step out on me.” This was the first that I had heard about her cheating and I couldn’t exactly allow that to slip under the radar.

“Do you have any concrete proof or is this just some kind of suspicion? I know how you get and sometimes paranoia can get the best of you.” I gave him the opening and over a plate of steak and eggs, he was about to unload the burden on his shoulders.

“It’s not just the late night dinners with colleagues or how she comes in stinking drunk and reeking of alcohol. I found her panties out in the yard the other day stuffed in the bushes. She claimed they weren’t hers, but I saw the look of a deer in the headlights when I confronted her.” The proof was daunting, but it wasn’t like he had caught her with the smoking gun of someone underneath her.

“I could ask around and I doubt that it would take very much for somebody to confirm what you feel you already know.” I had a wide array of friends and if I put out the word then the net would find a way around the suspects’ throat.

“I forget sometimes that you consider yourself judge, jury, and executioner. You’re the only one I know of all of my friends that can be vindictive enough to take extreme action. Friendship is something you take seriously and you feel responsible for protecting us from ourselves.” He was older by 10 years, but I learned over the years that age was just a number.

I lost my virginity when I was 16 to an older man. He was a friend of the family and I found comfort in his arms when he found me crying over a boy. I didn’t even remember the boy’s name. I had been shedding a tear over a crush.

I loved my time with the older man. There was no awkwardness and he was very experienced which helped to make my first time something more than a dismal disappointment.

“It must be my fiery disposition and I have a real problem with someone hurting those that
I care about. I take it as a personal affront. I warn them ahead of time when they breach the sanctity of our inner circle. Michelle and I had a very frank discussion when she accepted your proposal. She knew what she was getting into.” The bill was paid and the smell of bacon was a constant reminder when we stood at the counter.

“I hope you folks have a good day and do be careful on the road with the storm approaching. The weatherman doesn’t say much about it, but my trick knee always acts up when there’s a huge one on the horizon.” The old woman sounded plausible, but her assessment of the situation did not match with what I was reading on the Internet.

“We only have a couple hours on the road.” He wasn’t saying anything that I didn’t already know. I did notice that he smelled pretty damn good and I had to shift in my seat because I felt a trickle of excitement. Breakfast was a little different with sexual chemistry in the air.

“I don’t know if you’re going to make it. I’m warning you ahead of time to make tracks as fast as possible. I over heard you talking about the place during breakfast. It is a sought after piece of property, but nobody’s willing to roll up their sleeves to get dirty.” It sounded like the property was barely holding together. What kind of death trap was he getting me involved in?

“We appreciate the concern, but my jeep is quite capable and she has never let me down yet. Come to think of it, she’s the only woman that hasn’t made me feel emasculated other than my friend here.” I was blushing and the jeans I was wearing felt a little bit too tight like it was cutting off the circulation to my brain.

They were black and sometimes felt like I had to use the Jaws of Life to get in and out of them.

My hair was blond and the curls were waves over my shoulder. I was a lot shorter than Baxter. He could easily make me feel overwhelmed by how he liked to invade my personal space.

The jeep wrangler was a beautiful work of art and Baxter made it his mission to keep it in pristine condition. There was not an ounce of rust on the 2001 specimen to off road enthusiasts. The black color made it seem like a beast ready to attack anything and everything in its path.

I was feeling a little lightheaded and for some reason, I took a glance beyond the scope of friendship. I saw the traceable piece of meat nestled inside what I could only assume was boxer briefs.

“Excuse me, but my eyes are up here.” I stammered for something to say in my defense. He took my hand and placed it on what I was staring at without thinking about it. “I was wondering when you were finally going to notice.” I was out of my league and I felt like I couldn’t pull away from what was thumping a beat against my fingers.

“I didn’t mean to… it’s just this damn humidity.” I could’ve pulled away and it wasn’t like he was holding my hand to the fire.

“I don’t mind and this is the most action I’ve had in almost six months.” I was massaging his package and the thickness of it made me hunger to relieve him of the burden in his balls.

I woke long enough from my stupor to pull my hand away and I turned towards the window unable to speak without cracking with nervousness.

“I just want to go on the record to say this is not the first time I’ve thought of you in a less than friendly way. I’ve had feelings for you for quite some time. I just never thought there was going to be an occasion to show you.” I was stunned into silence and still feeling the phantom presence of his manhood in my hands.

“I’m glad you said something, but I don’t think this is right. We don’t want to ruin what we already have. I’m not the kind of girl that will step in between you and your wife. I’m sure other women would gladly jump at the opportunity, but I consider what we have together too damn important.” He was gripping the steering wheel and was leaning against it.

“I was stupid and I take it back. Forget it ever happened. I feel that we have something special and that maybe I should have chosen you over Michelle.” He had never given any indication that he was interested in me, but he was always good at hiding his feelings.

“You probably just have to take matters into your own hands. We could stop someplace and I could wait while you stroke that hungry serpent between your legs. The dripping seed along your fingers will help you to make short work of your orgasm. You’ll shoot like a geyser and then you will be able to think straight.” I was never much for being dainty and I had seen my fair share of young boys on the cusp of being an adult.

“I don’t know how you can be so easy to talk to about these things. I would take you up on your suggestion, but we really don’t have time.” He was staring straight ahead without making eye contact.

I didn’t want to give him the wrong idea by staring at his enlarged condition. I kept my eyes on the road and then the first hint of the storm began to pepper my hand outside the window.

  Chapter Two

I heard the screeching of the brakes and he was turning the wheel sharply to avoid the unhealthy debris of a broken branch. My fingernails were gripping the dashboard…white knuckling it all the way. He slammed into a tree and it was a good thing we were wearing our seatbelts.

The rain was teeming and there was no way to see anything in front of us. The sky had darkened and the only light was the lightning flashing every few seconds.

“I’ve only been here once, but I think we can take a shortcut through the woods from here.” He surveyed the damage to his jeep and the sizzle of the radiator followed by a plume of steam confirmed that it was no longer road worthy.

“I’m not getting any signal.” I was waving my hand in the air with my phone trying to pick up anything.

“I would say the storm probably knocked out the antenna in the area. We need to get you out of those wet clothes.” We ran around the other side of the jeep and found a trampled down path leading to God knows where.

“Baxter, I hope you know what you’re doing and it’s not like I have any reference concerning our location. I can’t even get GPS to give us a hand in the right direction.” I followed close behind.

He produced a small hand held ax that he had gotten from the back of the jeep. He looked possessed, grumbling under his breath and slashing away at the loose branches. They would have surely slapped us in the face impeding our progress.

I couldn’t help but watch his fine posterior with those pants coming down a little with the weight of the water soaking through the material.

It was maybe 20 minutes later that we came across the cabin by the lake. It was supposedly bulging with fish and I could see myself wiling away hours in quiet contemplation with a fishing rod in my hand.

“I know it has a generator.” He was using the flashlight on his phone to feel his way around the back of the cabin.

He was cursing a blue streak pulling the cord with the muscles on his forearms straining considerably. I could see the anchor tattoo on his skin. He had joined the Merchant Marines when he was 18 years old. He made his fortune from developing a device used by the military to track down enemy combatants.

I felt the impact and he landed on top of me with a certain part of his anatomy making direct contact with my own.

“You’re going to have to buy me dinner first. I’m not that easy.” He was staring at me and then his hands were shaking with how close he was to touching my breasts.

“I don’t know what we have in the cupboards, but I brought along some necessary provisions. I do see something that’s off the menu I might want to sink my teeth into. The wet look really does give you a hidden sexual quality.” I could say the same thing for him with his shirt practically see through.

“Kiss me before I change my mind.” Our passion unfolded quickly, exploding with a flurry of fingers pulling at pieces of fabric ripping away in our haste to see each other naked.

There was something freeing about doing it in nature and having our tongues thoroughly enjoying exploring the recesses of our mouths. I felt exposed and open to ridicule. He wasn’t laughing, but his mouth was parted in stunned appreciation for my form.
<
br />   The rain was coming down in sheets and any thoughts of getting under the safety of the roof were lost in translation.

Our lips parted and his hands had a mind of their own. My nipples were grazing his palm and his eyes shined like diamonds. He lowered his head and squeezed my breasts long enough to inhale the long and pointed end of my nipple.

“I don’t know what has gotten into us, but I find myself curious to see how far we are willing to go.” To mention anything about his wife would’ve been tantamount to having to finish myself off.

I couldn’t bring myself to stop him when I knew what he had with Michelle was nothing more than a smiling façade.

“I don’t know about you, but I have this desperate need to find out how we fit together. Life is meant to be lived to the fullest and what I have with Michelle doesn’t give me those butterflies in my stomach. You’ve always had that capability of making me feel like I wasn’t comfortable in my own skin.” He went ahead and sucked on both of my nipples and then his hand snuck into the waistband of my jeans and underwear.
