Lethal Attraction

  “No glasses?”

“I don’t seem to need them anymore.” She rubbed the bridge of her nose. “Feels weird to be without them actually.”

That was the least of the changes she would face. “Do you hate me yet?”

She cocked her head and looked up at him. “Why would I ever hate you?”

“You spent the night as an animal.”

“That wasn’t so bad.” A warm smile lit her face. “In fact, it was fun.”

Jeremy chuckled. “You sound like Tommy. He thinks being a werewolf is a load of fun.”

“I think he’s got the right perspective.”

“Tell me that when you lose control of your emotions.” He frowned. “You’ll find them less predictable now, but you have to control them, especially in public.”

“I’ve done that for years, anyway.” Annie shrugged. “It may be more difficult now, but I’ll adjust. You certainly have.” She moved in front of him and laid her hands on his shoulders. “I’m alive because of you.”

“You’re life has been turned upside down and inside out because of me.” He scowled. “If I’d kept my distance as originally planned, none of this would’ve happened. Your life would’ve gone on without the complications I’ve dumped in your lap.”

“And I’d be bored and pining for you like I have been for months. Not to mention plotting ways to get your attention and break down your resistance.”

Shock stilled him, and he stood up straighter and looked into her eyes. “Really? Months?”

  “Yep.”

Jeremy shook his head. “You deserve a normal life.”

“I deserve to be happy.” She reached up to run fingers through his hair.

Since he’d brushed it after a shower less than half an hour before, Jeremy knew it wasn’t tousled or sticking up. Desire uncoiled in his belly. How he loved her touch…. “There’s so much I need to tell you.”

“Kelly and Tanya told me a lot yesterday while they plied me with food.” Annie chuckled. “Kelly was rather vocal about the fact male werewolves don’t communicate important information very well.”

“For what it’s worth, I’m an open book. Ask me anything, anytime, and I’ll try to anticipate information you might need, so you aren’t caught off-guard.”

“Open book, huh?” She grinned. “I can ask you anything, anytime?”

  “Yep.”

“Then perhaps you can tell me why you changed your mind and had dinner with me last week after the whole song and dance about complications.”

“Oh.” Jeremy chuckled. “That was Ian’s doing. He encouraged me to get to know you better. Said I might find out we’re totally incompatible, and the attraction would go away.”

“I see.” She snickered. “I guess that was wrong, huh?”

“Uh, yeah.” He wrapped both arms around her and pulled her close. “And then some. He was right about one thing, though.”

  “What’s that?”

“Remember how sick I got last month?”

Annie frowned. “How can I forget? I’ve never seen anyone look so close to death after just a day or two of illness.”

  “That was because of you.”

  “Me?”

He nodded. “Did one of the ladies explain dark moons?”

  “No. What’s that?”

“The nickname we have for the new moon. It can have some rather deleterious effects on us.” He shook his head. “I’ll explain more about that later. Needless to say, those effects made me sick, because I kept resisting my need for you.”

“Really?” A huge grin curved her mouth. “You got sick because you were pining for me?”

“You don’t have to look so happy about it.”

“So, what was Ian right about?”

“He said I’d caught the love bug.”

  “That’s cute.”

Jeremy wrinkled his nose. “Say that when you feel like you’re on the verge of death as a result of it.”

“No more pining. For either of us.” She linked her hands behind his head. “You’re mine, and I’m yours.”

“Not quite. We need to get married first.” He smiled and raised a brow. “What do you think? Monday?”

“You in a hurry or something?”

“You could say that.” He chuckled then leaned down to press his lips to hers. By the time he pulled away, both of them breathed heavy. “Aren’t you?”

  “I am now,” she whispered.

  He grinned. “So? Monday?”

  “We can’t do it today?”

Jeremy laughed. “Afraid not. The clerk’s office is closed on weekends.”

“Shoot.” She pinched her lips together in disappointment.

Chuckling, he gently nuzzled her nose. “I love you.”

A contented, happy smile brightened her face. “I love you, too.”

Lord, is this what You had in mind all along? If so, thank You!
