White Heart: The Prophecy (The Blackened Souls Series Book 1)

“You’re still trembling,” she stated.
My eyes slightly widened in embarrassment. “No, I’m not.”
Takana chuckled. “Yes, you are.”
I sighed. “Well, I had never…that was…”
“Amazing?”
“Extraordinary.” I smiled.
Takana’s lids lowered before sliding her hand over my side and around my back. “Was this your first time?”
“Was it yours?” I arched a brow.
Takana began to slowly caress my back with her thumb. “I could never share myself with anyone else but you.”
“Me neither.”
Takana’s eyes then lowered to the small dark stone embedded in my chest. “It looks so different than mine.”
I looked down at my own chest and slightly smiled. “It’s filled with dark magic.”
Takana’s lids lowered, and she looked as if she were lost in thought. “But there’s something different about it. The glow…it’s purple.”
I chuckled at the thought of my dear brother, Seri. “That’s because it’s a purple sealing stone. My brother, Seri, picked it out when I was an infant. He said it looked special, and since I was special, I should have it. It was the one and only sealing stone with a tint to it. All the other ones are clear, so when magic is put inside, they look black. This one? Not so much.”
Takana slowly moved her hand from my back and gently placed it over my stone. “I bet it is special. I suppose…Seri was right to give it to you.”
I smiled before placing another kiss against hers, then slid my hand over her shoulder and rolled her onto her back as I climbed on top.
Takana’s lips parted, her eyes roaming my naked body as if this was her first time seeing it all over again. “I love you. Don’t ever forget that.”
I bit down on my lower lip. “I won’t.”
Takana sat up, slid her hand behind my neck, and pulled me into a deep kiss.
Chapter Fifteen
“Calen!” Zaos’ voice echoed in my mind. “Calen, you’re in danger!”
Snapping my eyes open, I jolted into a sitting position with my cape against my chest. Zaos, what’s wrong?
Takana grabbed my arm. “Calen?”
“Just get away from here. Get as far away from here as you can.”
My heart pounded against my chest. Tell me what’s happening!
A loud squawking sounded from ahead, and when I looked up, I noticed the inkling of morning light that shined into the cave from a distance.
“Calen, what is it?” Takana asked.
I clenched my teeth and jumped onto my feet, then quickly began getting dressed. “Somethings happening with Zaos. He says that I’m in danger.”
Zaos? I thought to him, but there was no response.
Takana frowned and got to her feet, then also began to dress herself.
“He isn’t responding to me, Takana,” I panted. “I think something’s happened to him.”
When I turned to Takana, I noticed that she was frozen in place with her spear in her hand. It was the first time that I’d ever seen her with fear in her eyes.
“Something did happen to him,” an unfamiliar voice echoed, and when I turned to look, I found Takera standing against the cave wall with her arms crossed. “But I don’t think he’s dead. Not yet.”
Instantly, my dark energy filled the blade of my sword, and I raised it towards her. “What did you do?”
Takera raised a brow. “I should be asking the two of you that. Especially you, little sister. Our father will be outraged to learn that his favorite little warrior has slept with a Dark Elf.”
The two of us remained silent.
“Well, the Dark Elf Princess, to be specific.” Takera giggled as she twirled her daggers in her hand. “He’d be so crushed that he’d have to kill you.”
Takana clenched her teeth. “Takera ―”
My anger flared. “Nothing is going to happen to her. Not if her father never finds out.”
“Oh, are you going to kill me then, Princess?” Her eyes instantly flashed to white. “I’d like to see you try.”
Right when I was going to attack, Takana sprung at Takera when she wasn’t looking and used her hand to slam the side of Takera’s head against the wall. Rock from the cave wall crumbled under the impact, but it wasn’t enough to stop her. Takana was still on a whole other level than me when it came to strength, but from what she described in her letters, Takera was even stronger.
Almost a match for Nerul.
Takera threw back an elbow at Takana’s nose before slicing her dagger across her cheek, then in less than a second, she slammed her hand against Takana’s chest and sent her crashing into the opposite wall.
Before Takera could get the chance to attack her again, I sprung in and stepped in the way, blocking an attack from her daggers. Takera then threw a flurry of attacks, but I deflected every single one using the strength of my magic to hold her off.
By now, my sword looked as if it were covered in black flames, but it was my energy flaring, and now I was going to use my black lightning to take her out.
Just as I was about to my move, Takera flashed in front of me in a blink of an eye, and I instantly froze. For a moment, I had forgotten how to breathe, then my stomach began to feel as if it were on fire.
My first thought was of the woman that I killed on the battlefield, and when I looked down at Takera’s dagger penetrating my lower stomach, I figured that this was what it felt like when I killed her.
This fear…she had to feel this too.
When I looked back up at Takera, she smiled, but her smile quickly dropped when Takana charged at her with a growl.
Takana slammed her against the cave wall, causing it to crumble, then she grabbed Takera by her face and began slamming her head into it repeatedly.
I continued to stand frozen until I remembered how to breathe, then dropped my sword and fell to my knees. Blood slid over my stomach and down my pants, almost pouring, and the world began to become a blur. “Takana?”
Takana instantly stopped and rushed over to me. A worried frown formed over her face when she saw my wound, then she threw my arm over her shoulder and helped me stand. “We need to get you away from here.”
I nodded dizzily as I stared down at Takera in shock. She was still, but only for a moment. When she groaned, the panic in me flared.
“Hold on,” Takana said as she picked me up and cradled me in her arms.
My head dropped onto her shoulder as she began sprinting for the exit of the cave, and once she was out, I was barely able to keep consciousness.
All I could remember seeing before she picked up her speed was Zaos’ body lying on the ground.
~White Heart~
Takera was already back on her feet and chasing after us, but she didn’t catch up as easily as I thought she would’ve. Not with Takana sprinting at her top speed.
When I looked up into her eyes, I noticed that they were glowing a bright white, and I wondered what she was thinking. Usually, the look in her eyes was the only way I could get a hint of what was going on inside her head, but since there was nothing but white, I couldn’t read a thing.
Takana looked down at me. “It’ll be alright. I’m going to get you somewhere safe.”
I wasn’t sure if getting me to a safe place would matter though if I were dead. I could feel my blood oozing through my fingers as I tried to cover the wound, and because Takera left some of her magic inside my body, I wasn’t able to heal it with dark magic.
“Takana!” I heard Takera yell. “Where are you going, little sis!?”
Takana growled and continued forward, trying to go faster than her limit, but when we broke free from the trees, we slid to a stop.
Takana held me close, her eyes fading back to gold as she panted. “No,” she shook her head. “No.” She was shaking with an expression that terrified me.
“Takana?” I croaked.
Takana looked down at me through worried
eyes, but then her frown deepened when Takera called her name again. “I’m sorry, Calen.”
I frowned in confusion. “Sorry?”
“The prophecy.” Her eyes glossed with tears. “This is the place the book described. Your stone…It’s the only one that won’t reject it, but…No.” She shook her head. “I just got you back.”
I pressed down over my wound. “What…”
Takana’s lips trembled. “I knew it was you, but I didn’t want to believe it.” She clenched her teeth as tears dropped onto her cheeks. “I know I encouraged you to end the war, but a part of me always hoped that it was someone else, only it’s not. This is where it happens. The ocean, the cliff, your stone…it’s you.”
“Takana?” Takera’s voice was close now.
Takana gazed down into my eyes. “I’m so sorry, Calen.”
It was silent for a moment, but I could hear the faint sound of an ocean nearby, and when I turned to look, we were standing at the edge of a cliff.
Fear crept up my spine and wrapped around my neck. “What is this? I don’t understand.”
Takana slowly put me down in front of her and held me up by my arm. “You were never supposed to help the woman in the prophecy.” Takana placed her hand over her chest, covering the white stone embedded inside of it. “You were supposed to fulfill the prophecy.”
Chapter Sixteen
“Takana, there you are,” Takera said from several feet behind us. “Are you going to jump? You and I both know that you can’t swim.” She giggled. “Remember when I pushed you into the lake all those years ago? You were terrified.”
Takana didn’t respond but stared into my eyes instead. “I had really hoped that it wasn’t you, Calen, but everything I studied about the prophecy in the last seven years kept leading in your direction, and now…”
I sniffled. “Takana, your speaking nonsense. I’m no half breed. I don’t understand.”
“You will soon.” Takana’s lid lowered. “I love you, Calen.”
“Takana? Hello, I’m talking to you!” Takera snapped. “I hope you don’t plan on jumping, because I’m getting you back to father, dead or alive. Preferably dead, but I am in no mood to get your body out of the ocean.”
Tears streamed from my eyes. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, and I still didn’t fully understand it. I was the one in the prophecy? Me? But how could I be? I wasn’t a half breed. I was just a ―
“I’ll always love you.” Before I could respond, Takana removed her hand from her chest and rammed it against my stone. When I felt the pressure of it cracking, I looked up and noticed that Takana’s stone was no longer there. She was pressing hers against mine with all the strength she had.
I grimaced as my body flew back through the air, then cried out when a burning sensation started at my chest and burned throughout my entire body. My legs, arms, fingers and toes all burned as if they were covered in flames, and when I looked, I saw that I was glowing white.
And then I began to fall.
The last thing I saw was Takera plunging her daggers through Takana’s back, followed by a deafening scream…
It was my own voice.
~White Heart~
Two Years Later…
An elf will discover love, and stones will collide, then the death of a black heart will merge with white. Kingdoms will fall, the loss of lives, and a world reborn by a woman split inside…
It was the prophecy. I knew it was, but I had never actually heard it with my own ears. Somehow though, it echoed through my mind like a memory.
Where am I? I thought as I slowly opened my eyes.
It was quiet, and a ray of sunlight was shining down on me in a blur. I thought that I saw a few fishes swim above my head, but that couldn’t have happened. I couldn’t be at the bottom of an ocean.
Takana…
Images and memories suddenly bombarded my mind at the thought of her, and I remembered the last night that we spent together. I also remembered watching Takera kill her as I fell over the cliff.
My chest ached with loneliness and pain. This has to be a dream.
Only it wasn’t.
The first thing I noticed was my white hair floating wildly under the water, and when I felt a pulsating sensation in my chest, I looked down to find something even more terrifying.
Embedded in my chest was a large white stone about the same size as the actual Gods Stones. Surrounding it were black lightning shaped veins over my chest, and on the inside of the stone was a hint of dark energy.
This isn’t real. Fear crept through me. This can’t be happening.
I wasn’t sure of how long I’d be able to lie to myself though.
Especially when the stone began to glow white with light, causing my skin to turn completely black.
My eyes widened. What’s happening to me!?
