“I respect your honesty, and I wish you well. Remember the frequency number if you need to get a hold of me,” Jesse told her.

“I’m going to go now, but be careful. I don’t want to see you get hurt, and no more fake deaths, all right, dickhead?” she joked. She leaned in and gave him a kiss, followed by a hug, and then walked away.

“Take care of yourself,” Jesse said.

“I will,” Monica replied. Jesse watched her walk away, but couldn’t see the devious look that had formed on her face. She grins evilly. She was on a new mission, an important mission. Something was wrong with Jaime, and she promised that above all else, that she would find out what it was, even if she must sacrifice everything she had.

“She must have a dirty, dark little secret, or maybe she is just using him. I don’t know what it is, but I promise, as the universe is my witness, I will find out, and get my darling Jesse back. I’ll kill anyone who harms a hair on his pretty little head,” Monica smiled at the thought of how she gave Jaime the kiss of death. It was her way of telling Jaime that she was onto her, and will find out what was going on.

After Monica left, Jesse hopped back into his ship, and powered it up. He had a bad feeling that he may have given her too much information. All he cared about now was leaving the Solar System, never to return. Jesse was also hoping that he can shed his pirate and smuggling title, and start from scratch.

  Chapter 8

"Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one."

  Friedrich Nietzsche

A dark figure sits on his cement throne, picking the flesh from his teeth. Caked blood surrounded his mouth, as screams of torture emanated from his chamber. The creature’s pitch-black cement room was filled with terrified naked humans, who were chained to the cold wall. The alien’s ability to see in the dark forced him to grin at the naked humans, who cried and pulled at their chains in panic. Once in a while, the creature would let out a low growl to let his food know that he was still there. While the smell of the blood made the captives nauseated, the aroma was sweet and intoxicating to Mr. Toad.

A partially chewed, bloody leg rested on his lap. A red light began to blink on the communication device, which was wrapped around his cold, fat, dark brown scaly wrist. He pressed a button and raised the device to his large mouth.

“Yes,” he simply said, in a deep demonic voice.

“Your package is en route to the location that you agreed upon,” informed President Gray.

“What of the other?” Mr. Toad asked.

“Also on its way to the same coordinates. They will both be there within the hour,”

“Excellent,” Mr. Toad said, then cut the communication. He grinned to himself and leaned back in his cement throne. His plans were finally falling into place. The fat alien tapped his razor sharp teeth together with delight. His mouth resembled that of a great white shark, with large, pointy sharp white teeth, and thin, dark brown lips. Mr. Toad was seven feet tall, and had overly round, large black eyes. His mouth and teeth were large, and his teeth sharp enough to cut off a person’s head in one bite. He decided that he would finish feeding later. He got up, and tossed the half-eaten leg, which he had on his lap, hitting one of the captives on the head. The man began to weep. Mr. Toad let out a deep, disturbing laugh as he departed from his dining chamber.

An uneasy Mr. Toad made his way to another one of his chambers, walking with a disturbing elegance. It would normally be construed as his office, but did not appear as one. Yet it was. It was a chamber of the future, and the future of his species. He had long awaited the rebirth of his race in a new light. A light that had taken almost a couple of hundred years to re-construct. A process in which his father’s father had begun, and that he will pass onto his offspring. In his dimly lit office, Mr. Toad leaned over a metal table, which had a large holographic map resting on it. It was a map of a priceless nature. Human astronomers, or the human government, had never owned such a map, or even knew of its existence. It had contained a detailed listing of all the systems, and their planets, in several surrounding galaxies. It showed what type of atmosphere each planet had, as well as what precious minerals they contained. A few of the planets had an oxygen rich environment, which the humans could live on, but that was Mr. Toad’s secret. He was not about to share it with the UPG. They had to fulfill their end of the bargain. Mr. Toad looked at the map and smiled when he saw a familiar blue planet with thick levels of methane. He laughed, as he remembered the pitiful statue of an alien holding out a planet in one hand, and a welcoming hand stretched out.

Mr. Toad used his wrist communicator to have one of his brethren prepare his ship for departure. He had to go pick up his prize to meet the future of his species. The seven-foot-tall creature put on a thick, long black robe, which slightly dragged on the floor. The trim of the robe had a kind of red hieroglyphics on them, describing Mr. Toad’s rank, and the order of his brotherhood. They resembled ancient runes, unlike anyone on Earth had seen, except a certain young pirate. He walked slowly to his ship with an evil grin on his face. Two guards, wearing the same black robes, but with blue-colored runes on them, stood on each side of the staircase, which connected to a hatch of the ship. The starship was extremely large and black. It looked a lot like the Black Ice, but not shaped as a rock. It was a long, stretched out ship, with a strange bubble type of design. Red runes also appeared on the side of its hull.

After entering his ship, the two guards followed behind him and closed the hatch. Mr. Toad slowly made his way to his flight room. His command chair rested on a small section of black and silver steps. The flight room itself was spacious and dark. Small, round purple lights were scattered about the ceiling, giving the room a soft illumination. The deck and walls of the ship were a shiny pitch black, as well as the computer consoles that lined the wall under the flight window. The buttons on the consoles were all purple, and all of the consoles and chairs were lined with silver. Apart from a few bloodstains on the floor, the flight room was rather elegant and clean.

While sitting in his command chair, Mr. Toad gave his pilot a command in his alien tongue. The pilot answered back and the massive ship left its hanger. Mr. Toad’s second in command approached him, and asked him a question in their alien tongue. “Are you excited, brother?” he asked in a slow, deep, demonic voice.

“The pieces are falling into place, brother. Soon, all will be corrected, and we can proceed to the next phase of our plan.” Both aliens deeply laughed.

Luis waited in his private apartment aboard the Rose. He was waiting at the coordinates that Elijah had given him. He was lying on a couch while he cried. A mirror lay broken on the floor next to his couch. Luis’ headaches had finally gone away, but his eyes were now completely black. It was only a few days away from his thirtieth birthday. He tried putting in contacts, but the other parts of his eyes were black, and he felt he looked silly. Luis felt that his eyes made him look like an evil monster. He tried to not let it get to him, but it was a strong internal emotional battle of pain and pride.

Luis was even concerned because he had lost his appetite for sex. He began to feel a hunger grow inside himself that he didn’t understand. Luis knew he was changing in some weird way, but, he wasn’t sure just what he is changing into. The only explanation Luis could think of for his transformation was that it had something to do with his exposure to the toxic waste plant he lived near on the moon. As the day passed, his body had become increasingly hot, as if he had a fever. His teeth also began to ache, as if they were growing. Luis’ mental anguish was interrupted by a knock at his door.

“Come in,” Luis said, as he wiped his eyes. Frank entered, holding a silver tray.

“Here are the sunglasses you asked for, and some more cocaine,” said Frank.

“Thank you, Frank. You’ve always been there for me,” Luis put on his expensive designer sunglasses, trying to cover up his horrible eyes. He did a few lines of cocaine, and then rested his head on the
back of his couch. Frank sat next to him, putting his hand on Luis’ leg.

“I would do anything for you, Luis, you know that,” Frank said in a compassionate way.

“I know, darling, and I really appreciate it.” Frank smiled at him, but couldn’t tell if Luis was even looking at him through the sunglasses. “There’s a ship approaching,”

  “Who is it?” Luis asked.

“It’s the president’s ass…sistant, with the obelisk. He said he would wait with us since we are waiting for the same individual. You know, the package that Elijah gave you,” Frank said, making fun of Alexander.

Luis smiled, “Bueno, he’s such a cheerful man,” Luis said sarcastically. Luis wiped his nose to make sure there was no white powder in the lining of his nostrils. Luis and Frank walked to the flight room of the Rose.

“Do you know what is in the package?” Frank asked.

“No, I don’t have any idea. I didn’t dare ask Elijah,”

Once Alexander arrived, Luis and Frank met him on his ship in a type of conference room. As soon as Luis entered Alexander’s ship, he was utterly disgusted. Not only did it smell like death, but it also had no color. The entire interior was boring gray, and completely drab. It was typical of the UPG in Luis’ opinion. If Luis didn’t despise Alexander so much, he may have offered to help him decorate his nasty ship. Decorating was another one of Luis’ passions. Luis, Frank, Alexander, and one of his military officers, sat at a large, round conference table. Alexander was drinking a glass of red wine. Luis placed the small brown box in the center of the table.

“Would you like a drink while we wait, ladies?” Alexander was not one to hold his tongue. Luis wasn’t bothered by Alexander’s remark. He didn’t really take the man seriously. He actually looked down on him, since he was the president’s errand boy. Frank, however, did not care for the comment.

“Lovely, a martini for me and…Frank?” Luis said, and turned to his friend and assistant.

“A martini for me as well,” Frank said, while glaring at Alexander.

“Very well,” Alexander nodded to his military cohort. The man got up and prepared their drinks. Alexander held back a smile, for he knew what was in store for Luis, and what was in the small brown box.

The four men continued to drink as they waited for their arriving party. “How long is this going to take? I have a hair appointment tomorrow that I can’t miss,” Luis impatiently asked. Frank smiled at him, because he knew he really didn’t have any appointment.

  “Not long now, “Alexander said.

Ten minutes later, Luis looked over at his friend, “Frank, are you okay?” Luis asked Frank, who had a dazed look on his face.

“I’m not feeling so we…” Frank’s face slammed into the conference table, as his drink spilled onto the floor.

“You bastard!” Luis yelled, as he stood up. He knew he shouldn’t have trusted Alexander. Luis became incredibly dizzy. He looked at Alexander, as his face began to spin and swirl, then Luis saw him smile. Luis fell hard to the floor, fast asleep.

“I’ll have to use that drug more often,” Alexander said to the man in a black uniform. Both deviously smiled, as Alexander reached over to the small brown box and began to unwrap it. The president’s assistant reached in and pulled out a small paperweight. Alexander laughed, as he tossed the worthless weight to the floor, landing next to Luis’ head.

“Inform Mr. Toad when he arrives that his guest is ready to meet him,” Alexander instructed.

A few hours later, Luis was beginning to come to, still groggy from the effects of the drug Alexander had given him. Luis attempted to move, and found that he couldn’t. He looked down, and realized that he was chained to a dining room chair. The room he was in resembled an elegant old-fashioned dining room, from maybe the 1900’s, he guessed. His head was spinning, and so was the room, he thought.

“What the hell is in that martini?” Luis asked. There was no one in the room except him. Luis put his head back and admired the crystal chandelier, which was above the dining room table.

“Oh, that’s pretty. I would have gone with a completely different style, though,” Luis commented, still drugged. The dining room table where he was seated had full place settings for twelve people. The table was professionally arranged with gold silverware, plates, and crystal wine glasses. The candles in the centerpiece were lit.

The door to the right opened, and two men in black robes, which Luis had never seen before, stood next to him, holding his shoulders and arms. Each man had a blue tattoo on his right cheek, resembling a strange letter. There were also strange letters on their robes as well. Luis was taken aback when he noticed that the other men had completely black eyes, like him.

“What the hell is going on?” Luis shouted.

“We’re restraining you, brother,” one of the men explained.

“Brother? Have you been sniffing too much moon dust or something? Listen, if you want a date, all you have to do is ask. Why are you holding me?” Luis nervously asked.

“Because you are not ready for what you are about to see,” the other man said.

“Shit, what the hell am I about to see? Is this some type of joke? Frank, stop fucking around,” Luis yelled.

“This is no joke, brother,” one of the robed men calmly answered. Both men acted as if they had known him his entire life.

“He is ready, Your Excellency!” one of the men called out to the next room. Luis’ attention shifted to the door. It opened slowly, and Luis’ heart began to race. A figure emerged. The men were right, Luis wasn’t prepared for what he would see, when a large, terrifying creature stepped into the light. At first, Luis didn’t believe what he was seeing, then the shock kicked in, and he jolted violently, pulling at his chains. The two men held Luis down the best they could. Luis was so horrified by the creature’s appearance that he looked down at the table. Mr. Toad sat at the opposite side of the dining table, grinning. When Luis finally built up enough courage to look at Mr. Toad, he almost fainted, for the alien was smiling, exposing his large, sharp teeth, which would frighten even the strongest of men. He quickly looked back at the table. Luis caught a quick glimpse of the creature’s eyes, and for a brief second, saw a similarity to his own. He was repulsed by its dark brown reptilian-like skin. It looked clammy and cold. Luis thought that the alien looked like a cross between a giant, shark, and dragon. Mr. Toad clasped his hands and rested his arms on the table, which caused the silverware to clank together.

“Welcome, Luis,” Mr. Toad said in a deep voice. Luis was completely unnerved that the creature knew his name. Its smile was frightening enough. Luis slowly looked up at Mr. Toad, as he caught the creatures’ eyes temporarily rolling into the back of his head, making his eyes look completely white.

“It is about time I get to see you. Do you know who I am?” asked Mr. Toad.

“N…n…n…no,” Luis managed to get out.

“You don’t have to be afraid of me, Luis. If I wanted you dead, I would be sucking on your bones right now,” Mr. Toad said, letting out a disturbing laugh. Luis didn’t know why, but he let out a nervous smile.

Mr. Toad adjusted himself in his chair. Although Mr. Toad was seven feet tall, the back of the elegantly carved chair was raised above his head. “You are my son, and the future ruler of the Renexobious,” Mr. Toad said, smiling.

Luis couldn’t believe his ears, “You must be joking, there’s no way in hell that you’re my father. He died a year after I was born,” Luis said, sarcastically.

“Do you know why your eyes are completely black?” asked Mr. Toad.

“Yes, my mother told me that it was a birth defect,” Luis said, still finding it hard to directly look at the alien.

“No, because you are a half-breed, like the men standing next to you. Look, look into their eyes, Luis,” Mr. Toad instructed. Luis looked up and noticed that the men in the black robes also had black eyes, just like him. He didn’t like where this was headed, yet it strangely made a little bit of
sense to him.

  “H…h…half...b…reed?” Luis questioned.

“You are half human and half Renexobious. I impregnated your mother…as well as other women. I am what you humans would call an extraterrestrial,” he said, laughing at the term. Luis was astonished.

“That is why your eyes are black. Have you ever noticed that you can see easily in the dark?”

“Now that you mention it, y…yes.” Luis did realize that he had always been able to see in the dark better than other humans.

“Our planet, Renex, was sabotaged roughly five hundred years ago by our robot servants. Our home was located in another part of the galaxy. After it was destroyed, we traveled here to Earth. Most of our species was wiped out. The only way to add to our numbers was to cross breed our species with the human species. At a certain age, the half-breeds change and become full Renexobious, but they still hold their human form. Your eyes, as you know, turn completely black, and your teeth will look similar to mine soon,” Mr. Toad explained, while smiling, exposing his massive shark-like teeth.

“Let me guess…at age thirty?” Luis said.

“Precisely, I always knew you would inherit my intellect,” Mr. Toad evilly smiled. He continued, “Your transformation is almost complete. You are ready for the next and final phase of the process, and then, you will become completely Renexobious. I have many things I want to inform you of, my son. I am glad you are finally at my side. Soon, you will be able to let your bloodthirsty nature run wild,” explained Mr. Toad.

“I am not your son, and I don’t want to transform into some hideous monster!” Luis cried out. Tears began to trickle down his face. He was afraid and wanted to go back to his mansion on Io, surrounded and loved by his gorgeous men. “This must be some type of mistake, and where is my assistant, Frank?” Luis asked, not sure if he wanted to hear the answer.
