My stomach dropped.
Thirty seconds later the doors of the ambulance flew open and two serious looking paramedics stood in front of me. I told myself I should have know better than to think we could pull this off.
“You need to get another oxygen cylinder in that vehicle before you go!” One man jumped in and the paramedic at the back of the vehicle handed a cylinder to put inside. The man jumped back down after setting it into place. They then shut the doors.
I heaved a huge sigh of relief. My hands were shaking and I’d nearly bitten a hole in my lip.
The vehicle pulled away. I jolted at the sound of the ambulance sirens that wailed, piercing the air.
I bent down to Jax’s level. Learning forward, I reached out and held his hand as I laid my forehead onto his skin, air rushing out from my lungs.
Unexpectedly, Jax blinked slowly awake. “Chloe?” he murmured, shifting his head from left to right.
I stared down at him with hopeful eyes as he came to. My chest tightened as I held my breath
“Where’s Chloe?” Jax groaned.
“I’m right here,” I whispered as tears rolled down my cheeks.
Jax’s face softened a bit. He blinked, looking hollow eyed.
“Shhh,” I told him, “I’m here now. I’ve got you.”

I live in a small town (population495) in Wisconsin. From my deck, I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Buddy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.
I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories, I could write I found I like mystery-suspense-thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
