“Well, stop her,” she heard Charlie say.

Diana worked hard to ignore them. She filled her mind, once again with Cat. She padded closer to him. As she did, he transformed.

She did as well, though, she was not aware of choosing to do so.

She finally reached Cat and he pulled her into a fierce, desperate embrace. He covered his mouth with hers and Diana knew that, at last, she was safe.

“I can’t stop it,” she heard Manaba’s voice call, much more softly now than it had been before, “I can’t pull her out of the trance.”

Diana smiled into Cat’s mouth. She did not want to come out of this trance. She did not want to be away from him.

Cat pressed himself closer to her and moved his lips to her ear.

“Come and find me, Diana,” he whispered, “I’m waiting for you.”

Diana sighed before another voice spoke sharply cutting through her reverie.

“I’ll have to do it,” Charlie’s voice said. She was prepared to ignore this voice as well before she felt sharp claws tearing at her back. She screamed in pain and fell to the ground. She looked up and tried to focus on Cat, but he was fading. Before he left her vision entirely, she saw Charlie’s cougar pounce onto Cat’s form dragging him to the ground.

“Cat!” she screamed desperately before the vision was gone for good.

Her eyes flew open and she looked around her. Charlie was standing at her side, Manaba behind her.

She had fallen from the rock, she sat on the ground with blood flowing painfully from her arm. She looked down to see long claw marks.

She had thought that none of it was real, that it was just part of the...vision or trance or…

“I’m sorry, Diana,” Charlie said confirming her suspicions, “I had to, you wouldn’t come out.”

She looked at Charlie in disbelief. He had scratched her, he had hurt her.

“Diana,” he said reaching towards her but Diana had had enough. She could not pretend anymore. She knew Cat was looking for her and, what’s more, she knew how to get to him.

She threw a sharp kick at Charlie’s chest. She saw him fall to the ground before she stood and ran as quickly as she could trying to follow the path Cat had showed her.

“She’s going for the opening!” she heard Charlie call, “stop her!”

Diana didn’t turn around to look. Though, she soon heard the quick pounding of paws. A cougar was following her.

No sooner had she realized this than she felt herself being pulled, forcefully to the ground.

She tried to kick and claw as best she could as she felt herself being dragged backward, back to the cave and back to Charlie.

Pain filled her leg as she felt impossibly sharp teeth sink into her flesh. As she felt blood continue to flow freely now from two wounds, her head began to spin, her vision grew hazy.

As the world flickered around her, she saw Charlie’s feet come into view.

“I can’t let you go, Diana,” he said, “you’re the key to everything…”
