“Not a bad way to go I suppose,” said Einyon. It was well after midnight, and at Christopher’s request, they were walking through Hyde Park.

“How would you prefer to go?”

“You forget, my dear apprentice, that I am immortal.”

“Yes,” said Christopher slowly, “but not invulnerable,” and there was something in his voice that Einyon did not like.

He did not have time to react. Christopher clicked his fingers, and although the body of the old warlock disappeared, his mind and spirit were embedded in an oak tree.

Christopher loosened his hose and began to piss on the tree. “As I said to Twissleton earlier, did you really think you could escape retribution? You murdered Lavinia Nash. Tut-tut. We might not have many principals, but robbing a body of a protected soul causes the Master excruciating pain. He does not forgive easily, even faithful servants. He asked me to remind you of this. I’ll come back in say, ten years, to see how you’re doing and give you a good watering. I’ll even continue your work for you,” and as though on cue, a young girl and clearly a prostitute, tentatively approached. As Christopher smiled at the girl, took her arm and walked away, the oak shook as if with impotent rage.

  About the Author

Annette Siketa was diagnosed with breast cancer on September 11th, 2001, (THE September 11th), and was told she would not live beyond Christmas. Seven years later, a routine eye operation tragically rendered her blind. Her life changed dramatically, and it was her penchant for creating imaginative stories that 'saved' her, though at the time, she knew nothing about professional writing.

From a literary standpoint, her first novel, The Dolls House, was an unmitigated disaster. However, she persevered and learned the craft, and has now written a wide variety of award-winning short stories and novels, including the successful children’s adventure, The Ghosts of Camals College.
