Hurrying behind her as she moved closer to investigate, he placed a kiss on her cheek. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Harley.”
“Oh, babe,” Harley cooed, as she fawned over the flowers and candy. “You didn’t need to do all this. All I really needed was you. But it’s so sweet!”
His heart beat out of his chest, as he stood behind her. He clutched the ring box in his pocket and gulped.
While Harley was busy fussing over the flowers, he took that time to quickly arrange the items in the little box just the way he wanted them. His glance darted from the box to her.
She made some comment about the cute conversation heart pillow and clutched it to her chest. But he couldn’t hear her over the pounding of his heart in his ears.
Harley was still talking, when she spun around with the pillow in her arms.
Just as he had gone over in his mind a hundred times, Spencer dropped to one knee, holding the open box out to her.
“Oh my gosh!” Harley gasped in surprise. “Spencer?”
“Harley.” He held out the box to her, his hand shaking. Two conversation hearts sat in the box with the engagement ring. One said BE MINE, the other said FOREVER. “Will you make me the happiest man on Earth, and Be Mine, Forever?”
Harley said something, but it all came out like high-pitched jibberish.
“Har?” he questioned. “Is that a yes?” A nervous lump sat in his throat. He barely managed to get the words out.
She nodded frantically, her eyes wide and full of excitement. “Yes! Yes! Forever, yes!”
Spencer finally stood up, since his leg had started to tingle from kneeling. He slid the ring onto her finger. “It fits perfectly.” He beamed.
Her eyes sparkled as she stared at the ring on her hand. “Oh, Spence! It’s absolutely gorgeous!” she wiggled her finger. “It’s so perfect!”
He had barely planted his feet and steadied himself, before Harley jumped into his arms and kissed him wildly.
“Harley, I can’t imagine my life without you. And spending that time apart made me realize that I never want that again.”
“Babe, I don’t want to be apart ever again, either. I hated every second of it.” A tear streamed down her cheek.
“Oh, don’t cry,” he said with a chuckle, as he wiped the teardrop from her cheek.
“It’s fine.” She waved his concern off. “It’s happy tears, trust me.”
He exhaled a long, relieved breath.
Harley looked around the apartment. “I can’t believe how much work you did today! I figured the boxes would take a week for us to get unpacked.”
He shook his head proudly. “Nope. Everything is put away. You’re working so hard in school, I felt that you deserved to come home to, well, to an actual home.”
Harley nodded, but she was looking at her hand with her ring on it. She kept moving it around in the light. He couldn’t help but stare because it was adorable to watch.
Finally moving her eyes from her ring to him, she grinned as she threw her arms around his shoulders. “I can’t believe I’m going to be Mrs. Spencer Wilson,” she gushed, holding her hand out and gazing at her ring again.
“I can’t believe that I’m the luckiest guy in the world.”
Her cheeks reddened at his words. “Awe, babe. I love you so much.”
“I love you, too.” Softly kissing her lips, he added, “Happy Valentine’s Day, Har.”

About the Author
Melody was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she lives with her husband, son, cat and puppy. She likes to read when she isn't writing or watching a Pittsburgh Penguins hockey game. You can often find her at the local Starbucks ordering her favorite drink, Iced Mocha.
The whole family are avid Pittsburgh Penguins fans and like going to hockey games when they get the chance. Having met some of the players has fueled her interest in writing about them and creating wonderful stories.
Melody has loved writing since she was small, in school she never met a creative writing assignment that she didn't love. She is lucky enough to have a wonderful husband who encourages her to write. When she was laid off from her job of 14 years, he was supportive about letting her stay home and take care of their son. D
uring that time she discovered hockey-romances and found a renewed love of reading as well as a passion for writing.
She spends her spare time reading hockey romances. At holiday time she really enjoys any romance about Christmas. When it is the hockey off-season, she enjoys swimming and spending her days out in the sun. Basically if she’s not writing or reading, then she’s doing something that has to do with hockey!
