A cool sensation touched my leg. I dug into my pocket and cupped the necklace in it's pouch. My third item. Instinctively I knew to take it out.
Beema was still going. “And I'm not going to tell you what I prayed for. That is all between me and ….and me I guess. Because there was never anybody on the other end!”
I slowly opened the pouch and pulled the necklace out. I held it out to Beema.
She took it in her hands, allowing it to slide gently into her palm. She looked back up at me, not impressed.
“Well, I did not pray for a necklace. So sorry to bust your bubble.” Beema's voice was sarcastic, but there was a twinge of disappointment in her eyes.
I closed my eyes, and a light went off. I realized that the eyes that had been haunting my visions had been Beema's eyes...the eyes of my older Sister. It explained why the eyes had resembled my own. It explained the searching and mixed emotions I had felt from them. It explained so much.
O, My Creator. I seek your help. I am in a situation and I don't know what to do. I've just found out that my real parents are gone. Take any anger inside of me and let it melt away. Let me see the bigger picture. Move as only you can. I pray that all the love inside of me radiates out and touches Beema. Help her to see. You said that love can conquer all. Please, please, please let Love conquer today.
At that same moment, Beema replayed the prayer she had made earlier in her mind. She was surprised at how disappointed she was. She had opened her heart a tiny bit to faith, and that door had been slammed shut in her face. Well, nobody could ever say she hadn't tried. Her prayer echoed in her mind.
If there is a God out there...if you can hear me right now, find me. If this isn't where I am supposed to be, take me. And if this isn't what I'm supposed to believe, change me. I'm going to ask for something huge. But if you show it to me, I will never doubt. I pray to hold...
My eyes closed and I could feel the magnetic field of my heart growing. I thought of our Parents. I thought of Beema, and how she had been raised in such an ugly fashion. I sent out compassion towards her. I sent out kindness towards her. I sent out love towards her.
I opened my eyes and watched in awe as the magnetic field of my heart enveloped her. At that moment, the necklace in her hand, actually being a locket, popped open. A hologram of the Azurean Star projected out from the enclosure, swirling languidly in place, creating its own light.
Beema looked up, a tear softly spilling over the brim of her lower lid.
“It's...it's what I prayed for. I prayed to hold the Azurean Star.”
The melody of the song came to both of our minds at the same moment. This time, we remembered the words. Our mother had sung the same lullaby to both of us as babies.
The lyrics flowed from Beema's lips first:
Deep in a valley or under a hill
While all alone, you question His will
Look in your heart
put all fear aside
I completed the rest of the song:
Trust and you will find
Look in your heart
put all fear aside
Let love be your guide
My eyes welled up with tears too. A warm wave of sheer love and gratitude for The Creator washed over me. I didn't know how things would progress from here. But without question, I knew that the future looked brighter. Whatever the future had in store, good or bad, I knew that we could get through it.
As long as we held fast to faith.
