“Last night was incredible.” Jesse took my right foot and started to massage it. His hands felt amazing on my tired muscles.
“Yes, it was...” I let out a sigh and grinned.
“It was only the beginning of our life together.” Blue walked over and started massaging my other foot.
“We’re going to make sure you feel like that every night.” Mayor Danvers leaned across the edge of the bed and started working his fingers along my shoulders.
“Provided it is what you want.” Luther had been silent up to that point but I gave him a nod of confirmation. The feeling of having three men massage me at once was too overwhelming for me to speak.
I ate my breakfast while being treated like a queen. Jesse and Blue massaged my legs until they were tingling and Mayor Danvers worked every tired muscle in my shoulders. When I finished my meal, they rolled me over on my stomach and started to massage my back. Six hands untangled all of the knots that had formed from the previous night. Luther took my tray and headed downstairs. All I could do was lay there and enjoy it. I was too exhausted for anything else, even with a night of sleep. When I felt a pair of hands started to massage my ass, I grimaced a little bit. The effects of the spanking were still present and it was a little tender, but it wasn’t bad enough to take away from the massage. Their hands seemed to be guided by magic and by the time they took them away, I felt like I needed a nap because I was floating on a cloud of bliss. I heard footsteps in the hallway and I turned my head to see Luther at the door.
“I’ve prepared your bath.” He pushed the door open and motioned for me.
“I need a bath, but I’m so tired.” A sigh rushed from my lips.
“We’ll help you.” Blue leaned down and wrapped his arms around me.
Blue’s powerful arms lifted me off of the bed and I locked my hands behind his neck. The bathtub itself was nothing special, but there were bubbles floating on the surface of the bathwater. Blue put me on my feet and helped me climb inside of it. The massage had been amazing, but the feeling of the warm bath was almost nirvana. The four of them started to tend to me before I even had a chance to react. Blue started washing my hair while Luther massaged my feet again and washed my legs. Mayor Danvers and Jesse used a sponge to wash my back and my breasts. I might have been hesitant about the arrangement, but being pampered like a princess made me feel like I was the only person in the world that mattered to them. Once I was clean, they dried me off and used a hairdryer to blow away the water in my hair. I sat down in front of the mirror and dug into my purse to find my travel makeup kit.
“You guys are spoiling me...” I blinked a couple of times and shook my head in admiration. “I could get used to this.”
“You’ll have to.” Jesse leaned over and kissed me on the top of my head. “We intend to spoil you rotten.”
Chapter 12: Major
I lit a cigarette as soon as I walked out of the house. I hadn’t even noticed that I had been without my vice since the previous night. Samantha had made me feel something special and it seemed to wash away all the bullshit I normally dealt with. I didn’t wake up during the night with the tightness in my chest I always felt when dreams of Afghanistan haunted me. Nobody told me about that when they talked about how important it was to serve my country. I wore my uniform proudly. I defended a flag that stood for something when I left home, but all it represented when I got back was death. I respected the men I served with, but I had no idea how hard it would be to watch men I spent every waking hour with die at my feet or get blown up when they stepped on an IED. Every day I woke up with those images fresh on my mind, but they were almost where they should be after my night with Samantha—they were becoming memories instead of horrific nightmares.
“Are you okay, man? You look like you’ve had your first good night of sleep since you got back to Granite Falls.” Steve walked out behind me and lit a cigarette of his own. “It actually worries me to see you this calm.”
“Yeah. I’m feeling surprisingly well. I can’t explain it.” I shook my head and exhaled smoke as we walked towards Steve’s truck.
“I can.” Steve smiled. “It’s called Samantha.”
“Maybe it’s just because I got laid?” I chuckled and opened the passenger door.
“You’ve gotten laid before.” He climbed behind the steering wheel and cranked up the truck.
“It has been a while, but yeah, I know that isn’t it.” I rolled down the window and looked back towards the house. “She’s amazing—damn, I never thought I would feel that way about someone after I got back home.”
“The fact she was able to squash the shit between Axe and my brother proves it.” He took a drag off of his cigarette and flicked ashes out the window.
“Do you think it will last? She gave your brother one hell of a deal to put that crap to bed for good. If he doesn’t keep his end of the deal...” I shook my head back and forth slowly.
“My brother might be an asshole sometimes and remind me of my father when he isn’t having a great day, but he’s honorable. There is no way he would go back on his word, even if it meant putting Axe away for good.” Steve adjusted himself in his seat and let his hand rest on the steering wheel.
“Do you think the rim for Samantha’s car is here yet?” I blew smoke out the window and looked over at him.
“Yeah, it is. I got a text from the delivery company. I’ll work on that and you work on the mayor’s Cadillac. With any luck, we’ll be drinking by the afternoon.” He nodded and smiled. “Not that a drink is what I’m thinking about right now.”
“You and me both.” I chuckled as my mind fixated on Samantha’s beautiful curves.
Steve and I went to work the second we got to the shop. There was an urgency in our step that neither of us usually demonstrated when we were working. Steve finished up her tire fairly quickly and then came over to help me install the rod in Mayor Danvers’ Cadillac. It required a bit of work, but we worked in tandem like a well-oiled machine. It was late afternoon by the time we finished. Steve was covered in less grease than I was, so he cleaned up and decided to drive the Cadillac while I drove his truck. It was unsaid from the moment we arrived to the time we left, but I could tell we were both thinking about Samantha. Being apart from her sucked, especially after the closeness we shared the night before. I was jealous that some of the other guys were able to spend the entire day with her, but it was more of a jealousy towards the separation than the guys themselves. I hoped they had taken good care of her during the day and she had been pampered like the wonderful gift she was. I decided to swing by the market and pick up some flowers—when I pulled into the parking lot and saw Steve exiting the market with a bouquet in his hand, I had to laugh.
“Great minds...” I stepped out of his truck and tilted my hat as I entered the store.
“You know it.” Steve smiled and walked towards the Cadillac.
There was a thump in my heart when I stared at the row of flowers. Steve had gotten a wildflower bouquet, but I wanted to give Samantha some roses. They had a bit of a price tag, but I didn’t care. I couldn’t believe how absolutely giddy I felt just standing in line with a dozen roses in my hand. I had never bought flowers for anyone before. I hadn’t even considered it. Romance was like a whole new world unfolding in front of me and I couldn’t wait to see the look on her face when we arrived. I paid for the flowers and walked back to Steve’s truck. It wasn’t a long drive to the house, but I pushed the pedal down to make sure I got there in record time. It wasn’t like I was going to get a ticket—Sheriff James was one of us and he wouldn’t pull over his brother’s truck anyway. I pulled up to the house and saw Samantha on the front porch, sitting on a swing that wasn’t there before. She was holding the bouquet Steve gave her, but when I stepped out with roses her eyes lit up and a gorgeous smile spread across her face.
“Thank you so much!” She took them in her hand and stood. “I love them.”
I pulled her into my arms and stared into her bea
utiful eyes. My lips were moving towards her before I even thought about the kiss and when I felt the passion on her lips, I wanted to take her upstairs. My cock sprang to life in a second, pressing against my jeans while our lips formed a perfect seal. The rest of the world just seemed to melt away with Samantha in my arms. All of the things that normally weighed so heavily on my mind just faded out of my subconscious. I squeezed her tight, pulled her against my chest and continued kissing her. The kiss lasted so long that I could feel my head getting dizzy before I finally pulled back. Samantha took a step and practically staggered, obviously reeling from the kiss as much as I was, but I pulled her close and wrapped my arms around her.
“I missed you.” I whispered softly into her ear.
“I can see.” She sighed and ran her fingers through my hair. “I missed you too.”
Chapter 13: Jesse
A few hours earlier
I couldn’t believe I was sitting in the same room with Axe Teller and an interrogation wasn’t underway. I was usually grilling him about something that could get him sent away when he was sitting across from me. There was still tension, even if the feud was essentially dead. Axe and I didn’t start out as bitter rivals, but when I put the badge on my chest, I had no choice but to hold him accountable for his actions. When he broke the law, I was there with handcuffs. It didn’t help his case that there really wasn’t any crime in Granite Falls unless he was the perpetrator. It was a peaceful life for the most part and when he was in prison, the only thing I had to respond to was lost puppies and the occasional rowdy group down at The Water Barn. If the state would have just put marijuana on the ballot, it would have made things easier. I hoped Axe would hold up his end of the deal and stay on the straight and narrow—for Samantha’s sake more than mine. If he didn’t, he would be disrespecting the very gift that Samantha had given me in exchange for peace.
“So why did you hate me so much, Jesse?” Axe reached for his beer and took a drink.
“It wasn’t hate.” I shook my head back and forth. “I’m the sheriff in Granite Falls. I can’t just let you break the law and get away with it.”
“I wasn’t hurting anyone. I didn’t sell to kids, not that there are many around here—most of my customers were old people who didn’t want to get doped up on prescriptions.” He let out a sigh. “I made money off of it, but I was trying to do it the right way.”
“There isn’t a right way when the law is involved. The law decides what is right and wrong, not you.” I narrowed my eyes at him. “That is why the two of us never could get along.”
“You won’t have to worry about it again.” He sipped his beer and put it back on the table. “I’m not going to do anything illegal.”
“I hope that’s true.” I sighed and shook my head. “I’m not going to keep a tab on you like I normally do, but if you get mixed up in that shit again, I will still have to arrest you. So you’re going to get a job and try to be a productive member of society?” I chuckled at the thought. “I don’t see that happening. I doubt anyone would hire you anyway...”
“What are we going to do about Granite Falls?” Axe folded his arms and leaned back in his chair.
“I’ve been thinking about that.” Mayor Danvers walked into the room from the kitchen. “Sorry to eavesdrop, but I couldn’t help but overhear.”
“This town is on life support.” Axe looked to him. “I mean, I love it to death and I don’t want to leave, but what happens in five years? Ten years? The school barely has enough students to afford turning on the lights. The factory is gone. Almost everyone who grows up here leaves...”
“Yeah...” I nodded in agreement with Axe—agreeing with Axe—that didn’t happen very often.
“I’m working on something, but you have to swear you won’t tell anyone except those of us that will be living in this house—agreed?” He looked to me and then to Axe.
“Yeah.” I nodded and Axe did as well.
“There is a fifty-mile stretch of highway between Granite Falls and the rest of the world. Most people don’t know this, but American Motors is looking at that stretch of land for a new plant. The biggest thing we need to get this town going again is jobs. The plant will bring a lot of jobs—and jobs bring people. I’ve been negotiating with them and we’ve got enough real estate to bring the plant to Granite Falls. At this point, I would practically give them the land if it would get the plant closer to us.” He reached up and scratched his head. “We just need permits and the state owns the land out by the highway, so they aren’t returning my calls.”
“Is there anything we can do to help?” Axe reached for his beer.
“Not unless you know someone on Capitol Hill.” Mayor Danvers exhaled sharply. “We need this...”
“You guys don’t know anyone on Capitol Hill?” Samantha walked down the stairs, her eyes still a little glazed over from spending most of the day in bed.
“Samantha!” I jumped to my feet. “Please have a seat, what do you want? Coffee—tea—soda?”
“Probably some coffee.” She rubbed her fingers across her eyes and yawned. “I need to wake up.”
“Right way.” I walked towards the kitchen and started a pot before returning to the room.
“So, anyway...” Mayor Danvers sighed. “I don’t want you to think I’m not trying. I don’t want word to get out and everyone to get their hopes up because it probably won’t happen. However, if they do build a plant here—even fifty miles away—it will attract some other businesses.”
“You can’t give up.” Samantha tilted her head. “I might know someone I can call.”
“Huh?” Mayor Danvers’ attention was instantly drawn to Samantha. “Who?”
“My father did some work for a guy named Charles Payne when I was younger. His daughter, Jennifer, and I went to the same college, so we hung out a lot. He’s a real estate developer and if memory serves me correct, he does a lot of work for the state. Let me give her a call when I get back home and see if she can talk to him.” Samantha nodded and smiled.
“Wait...” Axe leaned forward. “When you go back home? You’re leaving?”
“I’m definitely going to come back, but I do have to take care of some things at home before I can just move to Granite Falls permanently. I need more clothes than what I have in my suitcase.” She looked towards me when I entered the room with a cup of coffee.
“Speaking of things you need to do.” Mayor Danvers stood up and walked to his suit jacket that was hanging near the door. “I went ahead and took care of everything for your grandmother’s place. Just sign this paperwork and I’ll get it processed.” He dug into the pocket and returned with a rolled-up stack of papers.
“Thank you.” She smiled and took them from him. “That’ll keep me from having to stop by the courthouse on my way out of town.”
“How long will you be gone?” Axe seemed to be fidgeting nervously and struggling with the news of her departure. I wanted her to stay, but I understood that she needed to get things in order at home.
“Just a couple of days at most. I have to deliver my grandmother’s ashes, give my father this paperwork, and make sure he’s going to be okay once I’m gone. I’ve been living with him since I graduated from college and he hasn’t been doing that great health wise.” She sighed and shook her head. “The doctor says he’ll recover, but I’m still worried.”
“Why don’t you bring him with you to Granite Falls? He could stay in your grandmother’s old house. Between the seven of us and you—plus Blue’s mom living next door—I’m sure we can make sure he’s well taken care of.” Mayor Danvers leaned forward and put his hand on Samantha’s knee. “You’re now a part of our family, which means your father is family too.”
“I’ll ask him.” Samantha’s face took on a look of concern after she pondered her response. “But I’m not sure he would approve of this—I still haven’t figured out what I’m going to tell him.”
“One of us could be your boyfriend in public—maybe even mar
ry you. No one has to know what we’re doing behind closed doors.” I grinned and shrugged. “I’d be happy to marry you.”
“Telling him I’ve fallen for someone in Granite Falls might be a little easier to believe than telling him I just decided to move here. He grew up here, so he’s probably not going to believe I just decided to move here on my own.” She nodded. “Yeah, I think that could work.”
“I guess I should buy some rings.” I felt a bit of a flutter in my stomach.
“Luther’s a preacher—where is he anyway?” Samantha looked around the room.
“He had some things to attend to at the church to get ready for the next service. He’ll be back soon. Steve and Major still haven’t gotten back. Blue is outside hanging a swing on the porch if you didn’t notice the sound of a power tool in your ear.” I chuckled.
“I wondered what that was.” She nodded. “Well since Luther is a preacher, he could do the ceremony. We wouldn’t even have to file legal documents, we could just do the ceremony and put on a performance for my father and the rest of the town.”
“You don’t want to marry me for real?” I raised my eyebrows with sarcasm lacing my words. “I took your virginity, young lady. It is only right I should make an honest woman out of you.”
“You just want me barefoot and pregnant!” Her tone was sarcastic as well which caused Axe and Mayor Danvers to laugh.
“About that...” Axe’s tone got a little more serious. “We’re not exactly using protection here. Are you on the pill or anything?”
“I was a virgin until yesterday, so I haven’t exactly felt a need for birth control.” She raised her eyebrows. “Are you not going to care for a child that is one-seventh yours?”
“Did you expect more from a deadbeat?” I teased Axe who shot me an angry glare.
“I’m happy to raise any child that we are lucky enough to have join our family. I was just asking the question.” He continued his angry glare, but then his face relaxed into a smile.
