With that said, I hope you all like my story. I’ve tried to stay true to the way my memory serves me, to the way things really happened to me and to the people who surrounded me in Dubai. It’s a place I still read about, still talk about and dream about, and even though I left as a slightly spoilt and slightly fed-up expat, my time there was a turning point in my life. In fact, even if I’d left this story in my memories, only for myself to play over and over and over, I’d still look back on Dubai as being one of the most influential, exciting and special cities in the world.

If you haven’t been there yet, I hope my story will encourage you to visit. And if you have, I hope it had a lasting effect on you, too … preferably for a good reason, and not because you’re still there, banged up in a prison cell.
