When he touched her pussy, she gasped and moaned. She was soaked. Completely ready for him all on her own.

Her follow-up groan held a hint of pain, the last thing he wanted for her while they were making love. “Please hurry. I don’t need anything else but you buried inside me.”

There would be plenty of time later to prove that he was capable of finesse.

So he did as she asked and took his cock in hand. Aiming the blunt head toward her opening, he settled into the space Ellie enlarged when she hooked one leg over the back of his couch and spread her thighs, putting the other foot directly on the floor.

  Her flexibility impressed him.

Ellie shrugged one shoulder at his raised brow. “I’ve been doing yoga a lot to relax. I guess I’ve become more flexible than I realized.”

“Another point in your favor.” He grinned then stared directly into her eyes as he fit the tip of his erection to her slippery pussy. The opening to her body kissed his head, as her channel already clenched restlessly.

Even the barest of contact like that bowled him over. If it weren’t for her steadying hands at his shoulders, he might have gotten disoriented. She tilted his whole world on its axis. And he hadn’t even joined them yet.

Any movement on either one of their parts would fit them together. Lucas took Ellie’s hands and interlocked their fingers, bringing their entwined hands to rest on either side of her head. “If it’s too much…”

  “Lucas,” she growled.

“Okay, okay.” He pressed forward, praying for her body to yield easily to his. He didn’t want to hurt her or have to use any appreciable amount of force. But, damn, she was tight. And so hot. She was practically scalding his erection with the heat they generated together.

“Relax, E.” He dropped lower, watching her carefully for any signs of panic.

  There were none.

“Trying.” She cried out when he clenched his ass and pressed harder against the muscles prohibiting him from bonding with her. “Need you so much.”

Her desperation finally got through to him.

Taking it slow was only torturing her. Well, both of them, but her especially.

So he distracted her with a kiss that he hoped conveyed his caring while he lunged, driving himself a couple of inches within her grasp. They both shouted as their bodies adjusted to each other, stretching and swelling as necessary to ensure a perfect fit.

He swore his dick had never been this hard in his entire life.

Even barely within her, he had to clench his jaw to keep from getting carried away. If he wasn’t careful, he could easily find his pleasure within her body in seconds. She suited him that well.

Ellie whimpered then writhed beneath him, encouraging him to move.

So he gave her what she was asking for by withdrawing a tiny bit before drilling deeper, inserting another inch or two into her hungry pussy. He kept on this way until he’d introduced his entire shaft to her body.

When the pad of muscle above his cock tapped her clit, she shuddered.

The resulting shock wave ran through them both, making them groan in unison.

Ellie opened her eyes, which had been scrunched closed. The pure adoration in her gaze was enough to puff out his chest.

He began to move within her. Slowly, lazily, making sure they both could enjoy every instant of this ride.

The rings of muscle inside her undulated around him, threatening to milk the come from his balls before he was even remotely ready. He had never felt a woman who gloved him this well. The ridge of his cockhead locked against the muscles at her entrance every time he pulled out, thrilling them both.

And when he plunged to the hilt within her, he felt like he was bottoming out, counting on her elasticity a bit to make room for his full length and girth.

Ellie seemed as blown away as he was. She stopped speaking coherently, surrendering instead to a form of communication that was more about instinct—the rhythm they moved to and the intensity of their gazes—than verbal exchanges.

Everything they did was slow and thorough. From their continual kissing to his grinding inside her, to the full-body caresses that resulted from the intimate positioning of their bodies.

Though it might satisfy his animal urges to piston wildly within her, he wanted to show her that they didn’t need that kind of aggression to make each other feel good. Beyond good. Spectacular.

  Best sex of his life.

The only thing they needed was to nurture this connection they shared and the rest would follow behind. Though more than that might be fun some other time, tonight all he wanted was the purity of their basic bond to shine through, expressed by the natural interactions of their bodies.

He couldn’t say how long they stayed like that, the press and release of their muscles causing his cock to shuttle back and forth within her sheath. But there came a point when her breathing became ragged, and her eyes grew ferocious. It tweaked every instinct in him to see her claiming him every bit as much as he was taking possession of her.

In fact, it tipped him too close to the edge of orgasm. He wasn’t going to be able to recover.

  Ellie didn’t seem to mind.

She tightened around him, as if reflecting his own passion back at him. They fed off each other’s energy, each ramping up in sync with the other. Lucas was about to warn her that he couldn’t hold back when she froze, then went wild beneath him.

Her pussy clamped on him so tight he wondered if she would leave a permanent dent.

  It would be worth it.

Then she screamed his name, staring directly into his eyes, and let her climax pull him under with her. He shoved his cock through her tight channel and locked them as tightly together as possible before he allowed himself to join her in release.

The rippling of her pussy milked him, drawing semen from his balls in pulse after pulse that felt more satisfying than anything he’d ever felt before. Their releases seemed as complementary as everything else they shared, hers amplifying his and his seeming to prolong hers until he swore he had poured half of himself into her.

When he glanced down at where they were joined, he saw some of his come leaking from her body, which was filled to capacity.

Lucas noticed that as soon as he had flooded her pussy, she began to quiet. Her eyes regained their summer-sky-blue shading and her entire body seemed to relax beneath him. If he thought he’d counteracted her arousal reaction the day before, it had been more like exhaustion compared to this…true relief.

“You okay, E?” he checked in, the change in her drastic enough to concern him some.

  “Mmm” was her only answer.

“Was that enough? I can do other things…”

“No, it was perfect. Is perfect.” She rubbed his back, helping to bring him down gradually from the epic high that they had shared. “All I want is to lie here next to you and float after that.”

  “Me too.”

He kissed her nose then arranged them in a more comfortable position. Neither of them moved to dislodge him from her body, so he stayed embedded in her pussy as they drifted off, completely satisfied.

Together, safe and happy, he couldn’t have asked for more.

It seemed a single perfect orgasm could be enough to sate her after all. Who would have guessed?

Even more curiously, he could say the same. With other women, an entire night of rowdy sex had never made him feel as content as holding Ellie now did. Only when her body relinquished its grasp on his softening flesh and he slipped free of her did he reach down and disengage his proximal lock, sliding off his leg, socks and liner, before using his other foot to shove them to the end of the couch.

  Relieved and exhausted, he sighed.

  “Goodnight, E,” he murmured.

The only response he got was a soft, adorable snore.

Ellie felt like she was suffocating. The man on top of her in the pile of bodies wouldn’t budge. She was going to die here. Smothered by lust monsters hardly better than those cooked up by Dr. Frankenstein or zombies who wanted pussy instead of brains.

She fought as hard as she could, but it was no use.

  Breaking free was impossible.

“E!” someone shouted. It should have been Lily, who’d ducked under the closing gate a brave soldier—Lucas—had used his own body to stop so she could crawl beneath it to search for Ellie.

  Instead…

“Lucas?” she asked in a hoarse voice as confusion reigned around her.

She stopped pounding on the person above her when she realized how badly she could be harming him. He wasn’t the enemy. He was the man who’d saved her.

  In so many ways.

The fight went out of her. She tried to sit up but was trapped by Lucas’s strong, lean body, which had been trying to protect her by keeping her from injuring herself as she dreamt of the evil she’d lived through. When he realized she’d come back to the present, he sat up quickly, giving her space to breathe.

She would have much rather had him close.

The pitch-blackness was only interrupted by the green and red lights on his TV and entertainment consoles. A faint glow that could be a night-light illuminated the doorway into the kitchen.

Ellie tried to swallow and found her mouth and throat so dry she couldn’t even speak without croaking.

  “Need a drink?” he asked.

She nodded, her fingers worrying the edge of a cushion she clung to as she tried to shake off her terror and remember she was somewhere safe. With someone who had affection for her, at least.

In her semiconscious mind, Ellie dared to think the L-word, but quickly scrubbed it away. It was too soon for that, wasn’t it?

No, she was certain she knew what kind of man Lucas was and it was definitely the kind she could love. Whether he would say the same of her, she had no idea.

Lucas went to stand then lurched to one side, crashing into the coffee table hard enough that it surrendered a giant crack. Who knew what it had done to his hip?

  “Son of a bitch!”

She reached for him. It was too late; he’d withdrawn, recovered and popped to his feet—well, foot. Leaning slightly to one side, he found his balance.

“I still forget sometimes.” He ran his hand through his hair. “Hang on.”

Ellie blinked up at him, lost in her own thoughts too much to question what he was up to. As she watched, he hopped to the kitchen using the sofa and the dining room chairs as handholds along the way. His agility was impressive.

Her eyes narrowed as she heard him grab a glass from the cabinet, then run the water for a moment. When he tried to come back, she heard sloshing then splatters as her drink overflowed and lost a significant part of the contents in the first couple of bounces.

If he kept up that way, there’d be nothing in the glass by the time he made it to her side.

He paused then looked at her with a horrible twist to his sinful mouth.

Ellie rose, intending to take the cup and help him back to the couch.

But when she did, he snarled, “Sit your ass down. I can do this.”

Whoa. Still raw from her nightmare, she couldn’t take his bitterness on top of everything else.

“I’ll do whatever I like.” She crossed her arms, hoping to hide her nude breasts from his view, suddenly feeling entirely too exposed. Her voice was an ugly rasp when she said, “You might as well leave that glass on the dinner table there because I won’t be drinking from it if you talk to me like that.”

“Whatever,” Lucas grumbled then dropped to his hands and knees.

She watched as he crawled back to her without spilling another drop. Considering how effective that was, she wasn’t sure why he hadn’t done it that way to start. Could it be another ego thing with her watching?

Ellie hoped not because she thought it was pretty awesome to see how he’d adapted. To eliminate some of his tools simply because he was afraid of how it would look to her…well, that would be ignorant and she wasn’t in the mood to deal with stupidity at the moment.

“Here,” he said when he reached the sofa and lifted the drink to her.

She didn’t want to be a bitch, but neither did she think it was okay for him to snap at her simply because he was having some image crisis. His nasty attitude wasn’t increasing her opinion.

“I told you I’m not taking that. I’ll go get my own.” She stood and stepped over him. Or would have if he hadn’t snagged her ankle.

The aggressive clutch tripped something in her. Reflexively she kicked to break his grip. Her breath came in huge pants and the room spun around her. Her foot connected with his cheek, which only horrified her more when her flash reaction faded and she realized whom she was with.

End result, they both ended up crashing to the floor.

“E, are you all right?” Lucas scrambled to her side, his eyes wide and his hands hovering over her as if afraid to touch her.

“I’m fine.” Now they were both mortified.

“I’m sorry,” he said at the same time she did. Then he added, “I’m going to go…”

Where? They were sharing his modest house. One she loved—with all the hardwood and cobalt and emerald homey fabric accents—but there wasn’t a ton of space.

  “Lucas—”

“I need some time to myself. You can take my bed,” he offered.

She shook her head. No way would she sleep there, surrounded by his smell and his soft sheets. All the reminders with none of the benefits of his company. “I’m fine on the couch.”

He winced as she scurried from him and practically dove beneath the quilt he must have pulled over them while they slept. She realized why he’d rather have her spot when he didn’t stop to find his supplies and his prosthesis, instead rising to hop to the stairs then climb them using some oddly graceful combination of his knee on his residual limb and his foot on his other leg.

Unable to look away, she watched in awe as he navigated the stairs his way. Quick and efficient. Demonstrating his strength. But when he got to the top and saw her staring, he shut down completely, as if she would judge him for acclimatizing to his surroundings and his new body.

“Dumbass,” she muttered beneath her breath, but it didn’t matter—he’d already vanished down the hallway like a wounded animal slinking into the night.

Ellie got up, locked the door then returned to the couch, taking a deep breath to inhale his dissipating scent before it vanished like he had.

Ellie didn’t sleep at all without Lucas by her side. Neither did he, if the periodic tossing and turning or sighs she heard from overhead were any indication. By the time golden morning light poured through the window, she had given up. Shrugging into her dress from the night before, since the rest of her new wardrobe was still in the trunk of the car, she shuffled into the kitchen and started a pot of coffee.

She was nursing her second cup, doodling on a napkin at the table, when Lucas appeared.

“Morning,” he said, not bothering to put a good in there.

  Awk-ward. With a capital A.

On one hand, she wanted to race to him and smother him in kisses. Both because he’d given her the best sex of her life and because her heart hurt for him. They’d both shown their wounded sides in the middle of the night. There weren’t going to be any instafixes for either of them. Plus, he was sporting a faint shiner, courtesy of her foot. Shit.

But…if they couldn’t work through their issues together, then falling any harder for him would only be begging for heartache. Because she could admit she was already pretty much in love with the man and that gave him unimaginable power over her. Something she was wary of.

  “I know I
fucked up last night,” he said. “But the silent treatment? Ugh.”

Ellie couldn’t help but laugh at his exaggerated yuck face.

“I’m thinking about what I want to say.” She toyed with the handle of her mug as she considered her options. “I guess I just want you to know that no matter what happens between us on the sexual side of things, I’ll always consider you a friend and I don’t want to chance screwing that up. I missed you these past six months.”

“I think I liked the silent treatment better.” He stomped into the kitchen to get his own coffee and a bowl of cereal before plopping down across from her.

After he’d shoveled a few spoonfuls into his mouth, and chewed them somewhat more vigorously than required, he said, “Don’t act like the link between us isn’t there. It’s electric and way more potent than that friend bullshit.”

“I know,” she admitted. “But if we can’t make that work, at least we could have something.”

“I don’t think so.” He shook his head. “Every time I’m near you, it’s a stronger pull.”

“Okay, fine.” She tapped the end of her pen against the tabletop in a rapid tattoo. “Then why are you still hiding from me? I’ve shown you all the ugly parts of myself and you’re going to go and act like I’m gonna be some judgmental bitch about your disabilities? That’s totally unfair.”

“Damn, E.” He dropped his spoon into the bowl with a clatter. “You are so stubborn! It’s not about you. I trust you. Hell, I even told you about how I grew up. It’s just that…sometimes…I’m still not ready to deal with this, okay? I’m not nearly as strong as you are. Don’t hold that against me.”

“Let me know when you’re ready to be a little more honest with us both.” She flipped her pen around then started drawing again, more viciously this time.

They might have argued about it more if his phone hadn’t buzzed just then.

“Shit.” He banged his fist on the table, making her jump.

So she collected her mug and her drawing and took them out into his sunroom, where she could try to regain her calm while he talked to the Men in Blue.
