His Curvy Possession: An alpha man and curvy woman romance (Biker Brothers of Winter Town Book 4)

After a while, she seems to pull herself together and wipes her eyes.
“I’m sorry, Sammy. I really like you, but I have to go back to work.”
I nod. The unfairness of the situation washes over me, making me feel numb inside.
“You want a coffee?”
“Sure,” I say, trying not to let my voice crack.
As she makes the coffee, I go through to the living room. Boxes are packed up, and two big suitcases are zipped up in the living room. The place has a final feeling about it.
“When are you leaving?” I ask as she brings the coffee through.
“Today.”
“Today?” It’s like another punch in the guts. Then a thought occurs to me. “Were you going to say goodbye?”
She looks down which is all the answer I need. “You were going to leave without seeing me?”
“I thought it would be too hard. I was going to text you.”
“You were going to text me goodbye?” I’m so incredulous, and then it hits me. I’ve been a fool.
“Oh, I get it. You got what you were after, and that’s it.”
“No, that’s not it at all.”
“It didn’t mean anything to you yesterday, did it? I’m the rough mechanic, good for a fuck, and then it’s back to your life in the city.”
She winces at the harsh words. “Sammy, that’s not it at all...”
Tears are streaming down her face now, but I don’t care. I’m hurting too much. How could I be so damn stupid? Of course a girl like her wouldn’t be interested in a guy like me.
“Sammy, I really like you, believe me, but my job is in the city. I have to go back. I never meant to fall in love.”
I’m jolted by the word, and for a moment the anger inside me is quelled. She reaches up to stroke my face and her touch is so tender, her eyes pleading with me. My heart softens, and I take her hands in mine.
“I get it,” I say. “You need to go back. We’re from different worlds. It would never work anyway.”
Her tears are flowing now. I kiss her wet cheek softly. “Goodbye, Lena.”
I leave her in the living room and walk out the front door. As the door shuts behind me, I feel my heart crack into a thousand pieces.
I do the only thing that I know how to do. I get on my bike and I ride. I head out of town along the highway with no sense of destination. It must be a few hours later when I find myself looping back into the hills and finishing up at the ridge where I took Lena.
Sitting on the rock looking over the town, I think over my life so far. I love it here. My family is here, my business is here. But there’s been something missing. For the last few years I’ve felt a restlessness, like my life isn’t complete. When I woke up this morning, for the first time that I can remember, that restlessness was stilled.
I realize with sudden clarity that Lena’s the woman for me, the one I’m meant to be with. The one who stills my restless heart and makes me feel like I’m home. And if it means giving up my life here for her, then that’s what I’ll do.
I take a deep breath and look out over Winter Town. “Goodbye,” I whisper into the wind.
Then I get back on my bike and go and find my woman.
I pull up outside Lena’s house and knock on the door. There’s no answer, and I bang my fist louder.
“Lena,” I call.
She doesn’t answer, and there’s no sign of movement in the house. I have a sinking feeling that I’m too late.
I move around to the side of the house, banging on the windows. “Lena!” I call again, but the house is still.
I slink back to my bike, defeated. She’s already gone. I had a chance with the perfect woman, and I blew it.
With a heavy heart, I ride back to the garage.
I’m in a foul mood when I walk into the garage. There are bike parts scattered across the floor, and the place looks a mess.
“Jason,” I call angrily.
He comes out from the back with a big grin on his face. I don’t know what he has to be so happy about. “Get this mess cleaned up.”
“You got a visitor, boss.”
The scowl on my face widens. Probably an angry client. I’ve been so caught up with finishing Lena’s bike that I’ve pushed back other work. I stalk through to the back office.
I hear the clacking of her heels before I see her. She’s pacing the back room, a mug of coffee clasped in her bright red fingertips.
She stops when she sees me, and we stare at each other for a moment.
“I thought you had gone,” I say.
She shakes her head. “I rang the magazine and told them I wasn’t coming back.”
My heart leaps into my throat. “But that’s your life.”
“No.” She shakes her head. “You’re my life. If you’ll have me?”
I cross the distance to her and take her in my arms.
“Of course. I love you.” She collapses against me. “But are you sure this is what you want?”
She nods. “I’ve got a bit of money that Dad left me, and I can pick up some freelance writing gigs. I don’t need the magazine job.”
“But will you be happy here living small town life?”
“As long as I’m with you, I’ll be happy.”
I hold her tight. My heartbeat calms as I cradle her in my arms, and I finally feel complete.
Epilogue
Five years later...
Lena
I open the throttle and let her fly along the highway. The wind whips my hair behind my helmet, and I feel my soul lifting. There’s no one else on the road and we ride side by side, sharing the thrill of the open road.
We end our ride as we always do on the ridge overlooking town. Sammy extends a hand to help me onto the rock.
“I’ve climbed up here a million times,” I say, batting away his hand.
“Not in your condition you haven’t.” He looks pointedly at my swollen belly.
“Okay, fine.” I let him help me onto the rock. I secretly love the way he fusses over me when I’m pregnant.
I’m five months gone, that lovely stage of feeling energized while having a nice round bump to rub. She’ll be our second child. We have a toddler at home who we dropped off with Sammy’s brother this morning so we could get out for a ride.
I’ve discovered I love having babies, and I hope we’re blessed with a big family.
When I first moved to Winter Town, I collected my writing notes into a series of feature articles about small town life and sold them to a national magazine. It was the first move away from fashion writing, and I haven’t looked back since.
Sammy’s garage is flourishing. Dad’s old bike started a passion in him for restoring classic Cruisers. We find old bikes together, usually at shows or rallies, and give them a new lease of life.
He’s become renowned for his work, and people seek him out now to work on their bikes. It helps that I wrote pieces on him for a couple of magazines. The publicity really helped build his business.
Now sitting on the rock, I look out over the tree line to the sleepy town below. I never would have thought I’d settle in a place like this. I find I don’t miss city life. At first, I used to go back every month to see friends. But now I have everything I need right here.
“You ready to go back?” he asks.
“Not yet. It’s too peaceful here.”
He looks at his watch. “We’re not expected for another hour. Perhaps we could stop off at the garage on the way?”
His raised eyebrows and cheeky grin let me know exactly what his meaning is. I feel a shiver of anticipation.
“That sounds like an excellent idea.”
He helps me down from the rock, and we get back on the bikes. As I follow him back to town, the world rushing past below and the sun on my face, I think for the millionth time of how blessed we are and how glad I am that I found my man.
