“Are you referring to that young lady, Jameson... something?”
“Steffy Jameson.” Lizzy chided. She had remembered her name very vividly.
“So you saw her kissing me... And then you disappeared off the face of this earth. I am not quite sure how she snapped a photo of that, but it was something I should have told you about it”.
“You’re darn right you should have told me” she snapped back.
“She came on to me in my office that night and nothing else happened. I let myself kiss her back for a few seconds before I realized that it was you I wanted. I am truly sorry Lizzy.”
The look in his eyes was sincere, but what he had done was still heartbreaking to Lizzy, even if it was only a few seconds.
The conversation between them was not an easy one; there had been a lot of misinterpretations and assumptions. What hurt Spencer was that he’d genuinely cared and felt a connection with Lizzy. Just when he’d thought about taking things to the next level she had vanished. He’d searched for her for months with no luck.
As Lizzy stood there listening to his side of the story she wanted to kick herself. Was she really that type of woman? Hot headed, easy to jump to conclusion and most of all foolish enough to let a good man go.
“Honestly Liz, I was mad for a long while after you left. I could not believe that you’d just leave me without even saying goodbye. Now that I know why you left, I feel angry at myself for not being honest with you before Steffy had a chance to throw it in your face.
“But now, that we are standing here, the only thing I know for sure is how much I… I Love You. And no matter what happens I always will.” He stuttered his words as they came out.
Lizzy’s look intensified. “You... Love me?” She asked with uncertainty and disbelief.
“Of course I love you. You’re the inspiration for my novel. Here take a look.” He reached into the inside pocket of his black jacket and handed her a book.
Lizzy’s eyes examined every inch of the beautifully designed cover. The name Elizabeth was written in bold print on the cover. She’d imagined that if he did have a book it would be about psychology or something. However, this book seemed to be a novel, a romance novel.
“You named your book after me?” Lizzy said, as she edged in closer, gripping the book to her chest. It was her way of showing appreciation.
“You can read it, maybe then you’ll understand how I really felt about you. How I still feel about you.” Using the back of his knuckles, Spencer gently lifted her face up, so she could meet his deep gaze.
The same feeling she had the very first day when they’d met was reignited within her. The air around them seemed intoxicating and a delicious warm engulfed them both.
“How do you really feel about me Luckie?”
Everything stopped when Spencer heard her call him by his first name, the name he’d hated so much that he never used it. But slowly his frown seemed to gradually thin out. She was the woman who’d captured his heart with just one stare. He didn’t ask how she knew his first name, instead he decided to do something else.
“Will you take a chance on me Liz? Let’s start over doing things the right way, no secrets, no hiding. Just you and me.”
A warm smile touched her face as she moved in closer, brushing her lips against his so delicately that it sent a tingle through her.
“For me, it’s always been love at first sight with you,” she murmured her words against his mouth.
“Is that so?” Spencer said as he pulled away, tugging on her bottom lip gently. “Love at first sight huh? I must truly be lucky.”
“Not just lucky. You are the love of my life Dr. Luckie Spencer.” Lizzy admitted, for the first time. She was surprised at how good it felt to finally say it. “I love you.” She added, pushing her body up on the tip of her toes as her lips demanded his in a passionate kiss.
“I love you too Elizabeth Carter. More than just words, I love you as the air that I breathe. You’ve got me now and always,” with that, Spencer pulled her in again for another deep kiss.
This was the beginning of a new day for them both. Lizzy wondered how they’d make their relationship work, considering the fact that they now lived in separate states. However, she knew that every detail could not be ironed out at that moment. Him being here with her in that instant was all she wanted, all she needed. Marriage and everything else would come in due time, there was no rush.
“Kiss me again Luckie,” she whispered, as he swept her around and dipped her into his arms, and gave her the most enthralling kiss she’d ever had.
