The Sheriff had heard enough and held the phone up to the window for Catrell to see and pressed the activation button. After pressing it the screen immediately went to a timer showing ten minutes and counting backwards. He
showed Catrell the timer and Catrell’s eyes appeared to almost pop out of his
head. He could not believe what he saw, but quickly composed himself and
pressed the white button again.
“That response was most disappointing. Billy, your friend there just hit a
button that could put an end to all of this great research we are doing. I might add that we have the paperwork to prove that you have a twin and you both went to different homes. This was made that way to ensure that no one would find out who your real father wa s”.
I looked at the Sheriff and I could tell by the look on his face that this was
news to him. “What’s he doing Sheriff”? “Don’t let him get to you, he’s
desperate”.
Mr. Catrell motioned for one of the guards and the guard came up and handedhim a large manila envelope. Catrell opened it and pulled out a single piece of paper and held it up to the window and motioned for me to come closer. I hesitantly came to the window and started reading. Oh my God, I couldn’t
believe it. How could it be that they didn’t tell me that I was adopted? The names on the adoption sheet were my parents, but evidently not my real ones. It should their names and even the same address of our house on Glascow Ave. in
Astoria. I looked at the Father’s name and backed up quickly. “No, No, it can’t
possibly be true I just can’t”………………. I ran over to the table and put my head
down. The Sheriff went closer to the window and looked at the same paper I
read.
“Holy shit Billy, your dad is Marrick” the Sheriff spouted in disbelief. Catrell had the guard open the outer door and had red eye, alias Billy’s twin come into the room. I raised my head back up and was trying to hide my misty eyes as Catrell brought him to the window. “Billy, meet your brother and may I be the first to say, welcome to the family”. What a short family reunion this was going to be as the phone in the Sheriffs hand read 8:28. I just stared at him through the window and my brother stared right back at me. Holy crap did I just say, my
brother!
