CHASE (The Heartbreak Club Book 1)

I guess I wasn’t the only sentimental fool left.

  And then he was gone.

That night, I waited, but there was no fortune cookie at my door to help me decide.

  Blayne

  Follow your heart's strong desire.

The night was dark and the city was visible from this height. The terrace in Chase’s hotel suite was easily one of my favorite places. Chase was standing close to the edge, in an almost transparent white shirt, looking just as gorgeous as ever. But there was a lost expression on his face. When I walked up to him, I tried not to let him hear my footsteps but that didn’t work.

“You decided to come?” he asked, without looking at me.

“You’re not the only one who has the right to intrude in people’s private living set-ups.”

He turned to face me. “Touché.”

“What are you doing up here?” I asked. “Trying to solve life’s mysteries?”

His shirt was open from the front, just casually hanging on his body. The sight made me nervous. He also had a glass of whiskey in his hand and his eyes looked like he had been at it for a while. “A Bon Jovi reference,” he said. “I should have known.”

“Are you surprised that I’m a Bon Jovi fan or that you know the reference?”

He looked at me with the beginnings of a grin. “Word play is your thing, Blayne not mine.”

“No wise-ass remarks,” I said. “Some would say you’re losing your touch.” I paused and then added, “And you’re obviously drinking too much.”

Chase walked right up to me and just stood there, looking like that.

“You’ve come here to make me stop?” he asked, all blue eyes and open shirt and masculine heat.

  “Don’t do that,” I said.

  “Do what?”

“That whole ‘I’m too sexy and you know it’ routine.”

  “Did it work?”

I couldn’t help the laughter that broke out.

“Great,” he said with mock seriousness. “You’re breaking my heart with that laugh.”

“Well you almost broke mine,” I said.

“I’m sorry Blayne,” he said. “Remember once I told you to give me a chance when you caught me with Sydney at the club? I hadn’t done anything, but I kept it from you. And I never gave you reason to be sorry, did I? I kept my word. You need to have that kind of faith in me again. I will never give you reason to regret it.”

After a while of looking at his face, I finally said what I had come here to tell him.

  “I’ve decided to forgive you.”

  “Seriously?” he asked. “No penalties?”

“Sure,” I said. “I can think of a few.”

I went closer to him and I had to stand on my toes a little to reach his lips but when I did find them, the desire came right back.

“In that case,” Chase said, breaking off. “You’re free to discipline me for a change.”

This time, I couldn’t help grinning wide. “So,” I said. “Now that we’re doing the whole full disclosure thing, I need to know Chase: what did you have to do to get me a job at your office?”

“Well,” Chase said. “I might have…sort of created an entire department for you.”

My jaw was seriously left hanging this time. “Please tell me you’re joking?”

Chase laughed. “I’m sorry but I’m not joking.”

“Why do you carry a gun?”

The light mood became heavy once more. “I looked into Nick’s business,” he said. “It’s all dangerous, shady shit. I knew he would do something drastic the minute he gets a chance. I wanted to be prepared.”

“Why not just go to the cops?”

“There’s no proof. Without evidence of wrongdoing it’s just a story. It won’t stick.”

  “Can’t we try?”

“I’ve been working on it. These things take time.”

  “What if Nick comes back?”

“Trust me, he can’t hurt you.”

I pulled him close and rested my head on his chest. “I missed you. I hate missing you.”

“I hate missing you too, Kitten. I hope you’re done running.”

  Six Months Later

Next time you have the opportunity, go on a rollercoaster.

The blindfold covered my eyes and I couldn’t see a thing. It was a bad idea to let Chase drive me to the Hamptons. It was all too distracting and I wanted to prepare for a job interview that night. Clearly, Chase had plans of his own and I didn’t want to disappoint him.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked.

Chase’s hand was guiding me, leading me toward the unknown. But because he was there I knew I had nothing to fear. Finally, he made me stop and took off the blindfold. It was the first time I got a glimpse of him and my surroundings—the ornate bedroom with the lavish furnishings and Chase wearing the usual—a crisp black shirt and a tie.

“What’s put you in such a good mood?” I asked, walking a few paces around the bedroom. My feet felt just a little bit tired in the heels that I’d been wearing since that morning because Chase had wanted me to, but I knew now it would be completely worth it.

“Does that mean I’m usually bad-tempered?”

“No,” I said. “But you are known to throw a few tantrums.”

“That’s for work people and business rivals,” Chase said. “In any case, I actually do have some good news.”

I stopped walking and turned to him. “Yeah?”

“Biometal X is now in production phase.”

  “That’s great news!”

  Chase kept smiling. “I know.”

  “How’d you manage it?”

  “Magic.”

“This is major. I’m so happy for you.”

“And,” Chase said. “Since I met you, the hotel seems wrong and since my friends are always crashing at the loft, I thought maybe we needed a new place.”

  “Chase?”

“Blayne,” he said. “Meet our new home!”

“Our home?” I said, a little confused. “Chase, I haven’t said yes to moving in with you.”

“I know that,” he said. “Which is why, it’s up to me to explain to you why it’s important. First: I know you think you live with Chloe but here’s the thing—this past week you haven’t been to that apartment, not even once. Second: Most of your stuff is already at my place. Third: Commuting from Williamsburg to the loft is uncomfortable, to say the least,” he grabbed my arm and pulled me toward him. “Fourth: I love you and I want to be with you as much as possible.”

“Chase that’s all well and good but…”

“Blayne?” he said, raising a hand to a lock of my hair and pushing it aside. “Do you want to please me?”

The words made me forget what I was going to say and I just stared at him, speechless.

Chase led me toward the bed and pushed me onto it.

“Well?” he said, unbuttoning his shirt.

The sight of his chest and abdominal muscles made me shudder. He knew the effect he was having on me because he looked cocky as he was yanking off my jeans. “Chase…stop,” I said, barely even able to speak.

But he continued undressing me, unbuttoned my shirt, and ran his hand over my bare thigh. Then the same hand was going over my navel in an upwards motion, until he was running them over the bare skin of my chest, over the bra. He came to kiss me on the lips and I cupped my hands around his face, used my tongue to get into his mouth. Still kissing me passionately his hand ventured toward my breast, and I ran my hands over his back, pulling him in closer.

With my hands resting on his shoulders his mouth descended on my bra, as he used his teeth to pry off one side of the fabric until my breasts were free. He did the same to the other side and then took turns licking those erect nipples, leaving them hard, wet nubs, my entire body burning with the flame of longing. The more he touched me and the more intimate his tongue became, the more my body craved the touch. The aching center of my desire w
as full, engorged with the passion of lust and need.

“Chase,” I said. “You need to stop.”

He smiled and kissed me again, his tongue licked along the skin of my neck and his teeth sunk lightly into my skin, leaving behind his mark. I kissed him along the skin of his shoulder, and he descended once more toward my breasts, then lower onto my belly. He took off the thong that I was wearing and tossed it aside. He lowered his mouth on the slick region of my hot, wet core and the pleasure was beyond excruciating.

“Chase!” I screamed his name aloud this time but without the useless protest. As he continued to pleasure me this way I longed for more.

It was almost as though he was reading my thoughts because he started fumbling with the buttons on his pants and I noticed he was hard without my having done a thing for him so far. I heard him fumbling with a condom wrapper and then he lifted my leg, enough for him to be able to enter me.

My body gave a bit of resistance at first and then gave to his entire length, and Chase placed one of his fingers in my mouth while he kept thrusting his cock inside me. He used the same hand this time to hold my leg in the right position for him to keep fucking me.

“Let’s switch,” Chase said, his pleasure reaching the same peaks that mine had already reached. He positioned us so he was under me and I was on top of him and we fucked in that position for a long time, clawing at each other, wanting more, craving more, the never-ending pleasure needing a climax…

“Do you want to please me, Blayne?” Chase said, looking into my eyes.

  “Yes,” I cried. “Yes Chase!”

Chase pulled me toward him as he thrust even harder, until we were both entangled in the threads of our hunger, and until we were both going over the edge, panting and sweating and grabbing at each other for that moment of rapture…

Afterward, I lay on top of him, breathing hard and I could hear him breathing with a faster than usual pace, and I realized our hearts were interconnected.

“Yes,” I said, or rather breathed into his shoulder.

“I didn’t quite catch that,” Chase huffed.

  I lifted my head.

His eyes were blue and endless as always.

“I want to please you, Chase.”

  “Does that mean—?”

“We’re going to live here,” I said. “The two of us. In our very own place. And we’ll fuck like bunny rabbits.”

Chase grinned. “Will we also make lots of baby rabbits?”

“Ew! Chase!” I said and tried to get off him. “Don’t even joke about that!”

  Chase started to laugh.

When I poked him in the ribs lightly he made a big production out of it. “Ow!” he fake-winced. “Okay, I’m sorry! No baby rabbits! Jeez! Stop torturing me!”

I tried to get up and he pulled me down again.

“I need to go the bathroom!” I said.

He let go and I was about halfway to the door when he called out for me. “Blayne?”

I stopped and turned. “Yes, Chase?”

He sat up in bed. “Do you want to please me?” he said in the same seductive tone that was a bit more obvious now that I was hearing it post sex.

I smiled. “No,” I said and started walking to the bathroom.

I could hear him talking behind me, going on and on: “What? NO! Blayne! That’s not what’s supposed to happen! This line…it’s sacred you can’t taint it by saying no to me! You have to say yes! You always have to say yes, that’s how this works! Does no one respect me in this house! This is an affront! Blayne! Blayne!”

The volume on his voice was only turned down a little when I turned on the shower.

  I closed my eyes.

Standing under that stream of warm water, everything was beautiful. As much I feared that with Chase I tended to lose control, when I think about it I don’t think I’d ever been more in control of myself.

I was completely lost in thought, when I felt someone’s presence. I opened my eyes to see Chase standing in front of me, and the water had already drenched him.

  “Chase?”

He placed his lips on mine and kissed me, hard.

The pleasure that I thought had absconded came rushing back.

  The End
