Where Is She?

Jim looked over the Mc Cavity file again, it was so alien to him not to be turning over every stone to see what crawled from underneath. He just wanted to find who the suspect was and hunt him down, but with a suspected Russian hit squad, or perhaps a CIA or MI5 hit squad in the arena, it was way out of his control. He had been brought into a completely different world, the one where a veil of secrecy, double dealing, and counter intelligence was rife. He was way out of his depth. His life was investigating serious crime, evidence gathering and interviewing suspects. The other life of the spooks was not his cup of tea, although bedding Yvonne was fine; the rest they could keep.

  CHAPTER THIRTY-FOUR

Jim had gone to bed having had a few drinks and went into a deep sleep; he hadn’t been there for too long when his phone rang. ‘What the fuck now?’ He said as he fumbled for the phone. He held phone to his ear and said ‘this better be good?’ In a half awake voice. His eyes were still closed. Then all of a sudden they were wide open, ‘what; you sure?’ ‘Okay be there soon.’

Jim arrived at the taped off part of the track, there was a police car with blue lights flashing, a police officer was standing guard at the access point. ‘Hi Jim, the police surgeon has just been, although he was a mess, it didn’t need a Doctor to say he was dead.’ Jim smiled as he ducked under the cordon tape then walked some fifty yards to the body. He was met by the local uniformed BTP sergeant. ‘Hi Jim, I wouldn’t normally have called you out for a suicide, it was only when I found this note that, I thought you better be informed.’ He handed Jim a note, he looked at the writing through the clear polythene bag under torch light which read. ‘So sorry Phil I didn’t mean it, I couldn’t take any more you hurt me too many times. So Phil Mc Cavity I will meet you in heaven or hell, probably hell for the both of us.’ Jim looked at the uniformed officer, ‘where on the body was this found?’ ‘He was holding it in his hand.’ ‘Did you find any identification on the body?’ ‘No, nothing not even a receipt, he looks middle aged from what’s left of him, it looks like he wanted to die he just stood in front of the train, or that’s what it looks like.’

Jim looked at the body, this was no suicide; this was the work of the spooks they had picked up some John Doe from a morgue and made it look like an end it all, then stuffed a suicide note in his hand.

Jim thanked the uniformed sergeant as he went to the local police station. This was probably the work of Yvonne and Barney; so the book got closed with no further investigation. He had to call Langton as part of the requirement although it wasn’t a crime scene so to speak, it was still protocol in view of the Mc Cavity murder and the connotations. He arrived at the local police station and grabbed a coffee. He sat in a quiet office and called Langton. ‘Yes guv, a suicide note in his hand, stepped out in front of a fast train by all accounts. I don’t believe any of it; I suspect the spooks have got some John Doe and made it look like a suicide.’ ‘That’s very sceptical of you Jim.’ ‘Well that’s me guv; anyway just called you out of courtesy, I’m going back to bed unless you want me to stay?’ ‘No Jim, no point in staying up for the sake of it, I will see you later in the morning.’

Jim got back to bed and spooned Jackie, as he got a lapful of warm bum. Jackie later awoke to her alarm, Jim was still sound asleep, she saw his discarded clothes and presumed he had been called out so let him sleep whilst she showered. Jim finally came to and forced himself out of bed. He heard Jackie in the kitchen and walked in as he yawned rubbing his head as he tried to focus. Jackie looked at him and laughed ‘oh my god Jim you do look rough, were you called out?’ ‘Yeah a suicide I think?’ Jim pecked Jackie on the cheek as he took hold of the mug of coffee and slurped a mouthful. Jackie plated up his full English as he shuffled to the table and tucked into his favourite meal of the day. The magic of the breakfast began to work as the lights began to come on, starting at his feet and working up to his head. ‘Oh Jack babes that was lovely thank you.’ ‘You’re welcome; I have to keep you well fed so you can feed me later, I so need you Jim; tonight yes?’ Jim smiled ‘you’re on mam, yes.’ ‘What did you say earlier a suicide I think?’ ‘Yeah it looks like a guy walked in front of a fast train he had a note in his hand admitting to the murder of Mc Cavity.’ ‘And you’re not sure?’ Jim couldn’t let her know about the spooks so just said ‘no just me Jack, you know what I’m like, always sceptical.’ Jackie knew he was lying, but didn’t push it any further.

Jim arrived at HQ’s, Langton’s office was empty, so he checked his tray then commenced his report on the suicide. He called the coroner’s office to ascertain if any identification had been discovered, but he was to all intense and purposes still a John Doe.

The post mortem had begun that morning which confirmed that the injuries were consistent with being hit by a train; nothing survives that impact. The part that made him sceptical was the note in his hand. It just didn’t ring true; the impact from the train would have torn that from his grip. Still nonetheless he knew that as far as anyone else was concerned it was going to be made to look like a same sex lover’s tiff ending up with the John Doe stabbing Mc Cavity in the back then ending it all by standing in front of fast train. The score board was spooks one, Jim nil.

Langton came back and called Jim in; Jim closed the door behind him. ‘Okay Jim, I have just come back from the Chief, he is mildly pleased at the suicide, which in effect closes the investigation. I just want you to compile a coroner’s report on the investigation of Mc Cavity’s death, enough to satisfy any questions, but don’t go overboard understand?’ Jim looked at Langton and smirked. ‘I know the pack drill guv. Well at least the Chief hasn’t got an unsolved murder on the forces books?’ ‘Yes Jim, a clean sheet.’ ‘I imagine Yvonne will be calling you soon as well?’ ‘I would imagine she will guv.’ Jim left the office shaking his head. He then commenced the investigative report which culminated in the suicide, the note found in John Does hand neatly wrapped the case up.

His phone rang as he saw the display ‘Yvonne.’ ‘Morning Jim, how are you?’ ‘Fine thanks mam.’ ‘Bugger off Jim. I understand there has been some movement in the Mc Cavity investigation?’ ‘Well news does travel fast, doesn’t it?’ ‘Now now Jim, things always pan out in the end; don’t they?’ ‘Yes they certainly do.’ ‘Right Jim I need you to come to London tomorrow night and have a meal and celebration drinks with Barney and me. I will book you into a room in a hotel.’ ‘The Savoy?’ ‘No Jim, not the Savoy.’ ‘Will I be sharing with anyone?’ ‘Maybe you never know.’ ‘Meet Barney and myself at the Savoy at say 3pm then we’ll go on from there?’ ‘Okay, I will be there, but cut me some slack on the time okay?’ He laughed as did Yvonne.

Jim went into Langton’s office informing him of the meeting the following day and the overnight stay in London. Langton couldn’t resist it ‘go on then Jim give her one for me too.’ Jim shook his head ‘give it a rest guv.’

Jim got home, no smell of dinner, but he heard music playing, soft music, not Jackie’s normal bopping sounds which she loved to dance to as she cooked. He closed the door hung up his jacket. Then out of the bedroom door Jackie appeared, standing in her black Anne Summers kit, black half cupped bra, skimpy panties, black suspenders and black stockings, she stood leaning against the door jamb ‘come here Broadbent.’ It looked like the scene with Mae West saying ‘come up and see me sometime.’ Jim was fixated by her push up bra accentuating her lovely breasts; she backed into the bedroom curling her finger beaconing him into her lair.

She undressed him as she kept pushing his hands away from her as he tried to caress her. Once naked she took hold of his shaft and slowly and sensually moved her hand back and forward as she watched his facial expression. When happy she sat on the edge of the bed parted her thighs as she all but dragged his head down. He then realized she was wearing crutch-less knickers so feasted on her as he listened to her breathing and deep sighs as he drank greedily on her. The night was full of vigour and passion as Jim was taken every which way that Jackie wanted.
/>   They both lazed, panting after the exertions of the long session and just fell asleep in each other’s arms not waking till the morning. They both realised they hadn’t eaten so ate a hearty breakfast which they both wolfed down. Jim then announced that he might not be home as he had a meeting with the spooks and Barney from the CIA in London, which was likely to go on for a long time, so would take an overnight bag. Jackie was none too pleased, but there nothing she could do.

Jim received a text from Yvonne; you are booked into the Grand Hotel, Trafalgar Square, 8, Northumberland Ave. We will meet you there at 3pm and not at the Savoy as previously stated.

Jim arrived by cab at the Grand, he booked-in and went to his room to place his overnight bag; he was early, so freshened up.

He then went downstairs and looked around for Barney, his bulk couldn’t be missed, but he saw Yvonne first in a grey business suit sat at a table; then he picked out Barney as he walked from the rest room. Barney clocked Jim and gave a greeting American style, with a loud ‘hey Jim.’ He was almost lifted off the floor by the all American football man hug. They shook hands and walked to the table where Yvonne was sat. The greeting with her was far more sedate, which consisted of a handshake and pleasantries.

Coffee ordered they sat and made small talk then they adjourned to a side room. Jim remarked on the oak panelling, with matching tables and chairs.

Yvonne opened up the meeting officially acknowledging Barney; then thanked Jim for attending. Then she made it very clear the reason why they were there. ‘Mc Cavity was a double agent; MI5 had recruited him whilst at Cambridge to use his financial skills in the private sector to monitor certain activities on specific foreign government accounts. This he did, and it soon became clear that he was an asset within the organisation. But then sometime later his information and reporting began to go into decline, and what he did provide was of little or no use.’

Then Barney began to talk, ‘we in the CIA were looking for a similar person to work for us on similar financial investigations and recruited Ma Cavity ourselves not knowing he was also working for MI5.’ Jim could see both were being very guarded in their comments. Barney went on; ‘we too after some while saw a marked decline in his reporting, so decided to have him placed under surveillance, which showed that he was also in bed with the KGB as well. He was making dead letter drops and meeting with their handlers.’

Then Yvonne continued; it was like a well-rehearsed double-act. ‘We also placed Mc Cavity under a watch and also noted his meetings with the Russians including visits to the American Embassy. That is when I contacted Barney for an urgent meeting.’ Then Barney came back into the conversation. ‘We never knew he was working for MI5 or we would have never recruited him, but at least we were able to get things sorted out before it got out of hand, you know how you Brits say blue on blue?’ That was the cue for Yvonne to finish off ‘so Jim that is the long and short of it.’ Jim saw his turn looming up.

Jim was dying for his turn and as soon as Yvonne spoke the last word of her sentence he jumped in; ‘so who had McCavity killed?’ Yvonne looked at Barney she nodded as he nodded back. Yvonne then said ‘it appears to have been something like a lovers tiff, wouldn’t you say, especially with the guy standing in front of fast train and leaving a note.’ Jim knew that this was now the official party line. He raised his eyebrows as he said ‘looks like it, my report to the coroner is reading that way.’

Yvonne then said ‘okay and that’s the way Barney’s report and mine will read too; so let’s have a nice drink and then some food.’ With that they adjourned back to the lounge where Barney ordered a round of drinks which were duly delivered by a smartly dressed waiter. Yvonne signed the chit and gave him a tip. Yvonne raised her glass in a toast saying ‘all’s well that ends well’ glasses raised they chinked them and drank a toast to continue protocol. Then they went for a meal in China town just off Leicester Square. The food was plenty-full and tasty, Barney went to the bathroom. Jim touched Yvonne’s leg under the table ‘where you staying tonight.’ Yvonne looked at him, I was going home, but it’s getting late.’ ‘My room; if we can get rid of Barney?’ ‘That would be nice Jim.’ Barney came back as Jim gave Yvonne’s thigh a rub and a squeeze then removed it. Barney looked knackered; Jim commented ‘looks like jet lag is catching up on you Barney?’ ‘You’re not kidding, I thought I had cracked it, but it’s hit me now.’ Yvonne said ‘look Barney, Jim and I have some things to discuss on another operation that is imminent; so you go back to the Savoy and I’ll meet you in the morning at my office.’

Barney’s eyes were showing the signs of getting heavy; although he had wanted to go around Soho with Jim, his legs wouldn’t have carried him. They walked to the Square and caught separate cabs.

Jim opened the cab door for Yvonne and patted her bum as she got in. She smiled as he got beside her. As soon as they got to Jim’s hotel room they were at each other like teenagers. Yvonne was like a caged animal. Nothing like the cold frosty exterior she portrayed when working. As soon as she got hold of Jim she was like a tigress, she let go all her pent up emotions, she used Jim to the full while she had him; there was always a sense of urgency, as she undressed Jim. She loved to be on top of him controlling the situation and absorbing all of him. She was never into oral sex before she met Jim, but now she loved it; also relishing the pleasure when his head was between her thighs licking her.

In the morning when dressed she looked at Jim and said ‘thanks again Jim for a lovely night and also for not asking too many questions regarding Mc Cavity, as far as everyone else is concerned it’s put to bed, just like me and you.’ Jim smiled ‘I like that thought being put to bed by you.’ They laughed as Yvonne said goodbye then left.

Jim called Jackie confirming he would be home later once he had fought the London traffic. He wasn’t that hungry after the Chinese meal, but he had expended a good deal of energy during the night. He took advantage of the hotel restaurant. After a light breakfast he booked out; he saw the nose to tail traffic of the rush hour so got directions from the receptionist then walked to Charring Cross station.

Jim went to HQ’s where he debriefed Langton on the evenings meeting with Yvonne and Barney. Langton looked at him and smiled. Jim jumped in ‘no, and before you say it I’m not giving her one.’ Langton laughed then said ‘that’s it then, another successful conclusion to another good job.’ Jim smiled although he still knew MI5 had silenced Mc Cavity, but had to let it go. Yvonne wouldn’t expand on whether it was CIA, MI5 or even the KGB who had undertaken the hit, although inwardly he suspected she had set it up possibly with Special Forces being involved, who knows certainly not him?
