She hugged her friends. ‘Love you guys,’ she whispered.
Bianca growled: ‘Make sure you come back every year like you promised.’
‘I will.’ Ruby nuzzled into Freddy’s fat neck. ‘I’m so going to miss you Sweet Cheeks.’ She had learned everything about birthing and babies, which would put her in good stead when she had her own.
Ruby and Rowdy followed Hank to his truck. Ruby had thought of a name for their little house on the prairie: “Buckin’ Palace.”
At the truck, Hank slid the suitcases in the back, shut the tailgate and turned to her. He had his “cop” face on; his eyes steady and serious as he stared down at her.
‘You gonna behave yourself from now on?’ he said quietly.
She glanced down at Rowdy. ‘He is.’ She looked up at Hank and gave him a wicked grin. ‘But I’m not.’
