New School, New Me!

And now Grandma wants me to be quiet.

I think Grandma and I need to take a "break."

Here is everything I can't do at Grandma's house.

  • Make extra chocolaty brownies in the kitchen. Dad and I used to make extra-chocolaty brownies all the time. But Grandma always says “no” when I ask to make them here. Mom can’t cook here, either. Mom likes to cook. But Grandma doesn’t like it when anyone else uses her stove. This makes Mom sad.

  • Watch Dance For It! . Grandma says I can’t watch TV at night. The only TV is in the living room. That’s where Grandpa likes to read. Now I don’t know who gets voted off until WAY after everyone else! I watch clips on my phone. But that is NOT THE SAME. I already know who is going home!

  • Hang out with other kids. I can’t have anyone from school over. And there are no kids in Grandma’s neighborhood. Only old people live here.

  ABOUT THE AUTHOR

J.M. Klein is a former journalist who has lived all around the country and moved half a dozen times. Like Dani, she learned how to make new friends and tried out for the school play. She didn’t make that play, but she did develop a lifelong love of theater and now has good friends in many states. She’s always written in diaries and journals, the contents of which are still totally secret.
