Burn: Dragon Shifter Romance

Her eyes grew wide, “What, how did you…” she started, but her temperature had spiked to epic proportions.
How was it that every time she thought of something, he voiced her thoughts? It was as if he knew exactly what went on in her mind, all the goddamn time. She decided to put his psychic abilities to the test as absurd as it may be. Maybe if he tied me down and spanked me, I would be more obedient, she thought deliberately and watched him. This time he rubbed the back of his neck and a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
“If you are going to continue snooping around, I might have to teach you a lesson,” he murmured, but his voice contained an edge of promise to it.
He could read her mind, she realized and instead of feeling strangely alarmed she was more turned on than anything. The things she could do to get her way by simply thinking it were endless. She tried one more, just to be sure. Why don’t you kiss me like you did the other night?
His eyes flashed as he raised his head to look at her, “Be careful what you wish for.” His voice was a husky rumble that sent a shiver of desire racing through every part of her. It was like a tight elastic band, tied at the ends, overextending and just waiting for the right moment to snap. His eyes burned into hers, and she almost reared back, but her feet wouldn’t move. Did she bite off more than she could chew?
Oron approached cautiously at first, and when she showed no resistance he closed the distance between them. She could feel her heart fluttering against her ribcage, like a bird trying to break free.
“How do you do it…” she whispered as he reached out to take her by her wrist.
“Do what?” he asked raising a brow.
“Know my thoughts…”
Oron chuckled this time, but instead of answering her, he lowered his head and brushed past her lips, then whispered against her ear, “It’s a gift I have.”
Alison’s knees grew weak and if it hadn’t been for Oron’s strong arm that was wrapped around her waist, she would have crumbled to the floor. No matter how much she tried to resist him, it was practically impossible. Out there she had a crazy ex trying, who knows what, to get to her, but all she could think of was what Oron would do to her mind and body next. It was like he was two different people, and yet the same. But what was even stranger than fiction was the fact that she didn’t find sex with him repulsive, instead she wanted it, and she wanted it both gently and as rough as he could give.
When he drew back to look in her eyes, she bit her lip and knew that he had read her mind again. She wanted to touch him, but she fought the urge, something in her yearned for so much more. No more thinking, she reprimanded herself, and he smirked. Without warning he let her go and stepped away, but his eyes raked over her as if he was consuming every part of her with just his eyes.
“Undress,” he murmured.
“Excuse me?” she asked, not sure if she heard him correctly.
He moved around her and tugged on the chain that led from the door to the pulley, shutting the door that led to the outside.
“I want you to get undressed,” he said again, this time more demanding, but not in a cruel way.
For some reason she couldn’t deny him his request, a part of her wanted to please him on every level, while her sanity kept trying to override her desire. You’re going down the same road again, she told herself, knowing that this was the exact thing she didn’t want. She didn’t want her world to revolve around the happiness of any man. She wanted her own independence.
Oron came closer again, and without touching her, asked, “Do you trust me?”
Trust, now there was a word she had misunderstood far too many times in her life.
“Yes,” she whispered impulsively, as if she her voice was no longer her own.
“Then get undressed.”
Pussycat Doll’s song, Buttons, was on replay in her mind, as she slowly undid her jeans. For all that she knew she was going to have to pull a few very provocative dance moves at this rate. Her tongue flicked over her lips and she took a steadying breath. Just let go and let be, she told herself. As if she was possessed by a sexier alter ego, she slowly started to sway her hips to the rhythm of the song echoing in her brain.
Oron’s eyes were glued to her and the intensity of his gaze made her melt, she wanted this, she wanted him, like a promiscuous minx on a mission to devour and claim her man.
She peeled her T-shirt off and stood before him wearing nothing but her underwear, wishing she had made more effort to wear something sexy, but it was a little too late. In her cotton bra and panties, she probably looked like a prudish school girl with nothing to offer. But those were just her insecurities. By the way Oron growled he clearly had a different opinion on the matter. And as he raked his eyes over her near nakedness, goosebumps broke out over her skin like a distant caress from an invisible lover.
“You’re incredible,” he murmured as he came closer to her.
“Your eyesight’s really a problem,” she tried to joke, but he hardly blinked.
Self-awareness got the better of her and she wrapped her arms around herself, but Oron reached for her arms and moved them down to her sides, keeping them locked in his hands.
“I told you to be careful what you wish for,” he whispered, his lips a hair’s-breadth away from hers. Instinctively her eyes fluttered closed, and she tilted her head, offering her parted lips to him, but he did not respond. Instead he moved his hands up the length of her arms, his fingertips dancing over her skin, barely touching her, exploring her exposed skin inch by inch.
“Open your eyes and look at me,” he ordered, and she obeyed.
While he kept her gaze captive, he moved his hands over her shoulders and down her chest, until his palms pressed against her breasts. Her nipples ached as he kneaded her through the cotton. She couldn’t bear looking at him and averted her gaze.
“Open your eyes, Alison,” he insisted again, and she forced herself to look at him again, even though she felt as if she was going to explode.
Unexpectedly, he tugged her bra and ripped it open in front and the sharp intake of breath from her earned her a wicked smirk. God, he’s hot when he smiles like that, she thought.
“Thanks,” he said and ran his hands down over her hips, but made no attempt to remove her panties.
She was also in no state to be bothered by his so called gift. The thought of him fucking her until she was a mindless mess consumed her thoughts. What he did next was totally unexpected, but as he hooked his index finger around the crotch of her panties and tugged hard, she nearly fainted. Her body trembled almost instantly as she climaxed. She gripped his shoulders for support as her knees buckled and then he tugged her panties again, this time only to shred them from her like tissue paper.
“Oh my god,” she gasped when she finally managed to catch her breath, but it was a temporary reprieve.
Oron hoisted her into his arms and walked over to the table, ignoring her breathless protests. He stood between her legs and pressed his hand flat against her swollen folds, she could feel how his fingers glided against her wetness. And when he slipped two fingers into her pussy, she nearly lost it again.
“Hold on to the edge of the desk,” he said as he teased her flesh.
“Why can’t I touch you?” she dared to ask, but he growled lowly, like a wild animal warning an intruder, and she immediately gripped the desk. He moved his fingers in and out of her, in painfully slow motions, and she was convinced that his intent was to drive her insane.
“Oron… please…” she begged, barely able to keep focus.
“Please what?” he asked.
Fuck me, she thought.
“Say it out loud,” he murmured as he leaned into the crook of her neck, placing open-mouthed kisses against her already feverish skin.
“Fuck me,” she murmured breathlessly.
“How?” he whispered.
How else does a person get fucked?
Oron’s hand slipped up into her hair, and he tugged her hea
d back, exposing her neck, she felt his teeth graze against her throat and it sent another shiver of pleasure through her.
“You really need to control your thoughts,” he hummed against her skin.
She really needed to do that she thought for a moment, but just then he removed his hand and stepped away from her. She didn’t budge, she simply looked at him as he tore off his own clothes, exposing that majestic masculine body of his again. God he was hot, no, he was fucking hot. The way his lips tugged into that wicked smile, made her stomach twist into a tight knot.
“Fuck it, I give up, you know my thoughts, just live with it,” she muttered under her breath and reached for his arm, tugging him towards her.
“Is that so?” he simpered and cupped her ass, tugging her roughly to the edge of the desk, until his cock was riding up between her folds, “Is this what you want?”
“Yes,” she breathed.
Without another word said, he captured her lips and kissed her breath away, it was as if he was extracting her very soul from her and she kissed him back, completely losing herself in him. He gripped her hips and as his tongue delved into her mouth, his cock drove deep into her tightness, he grunted while she moaned. It was the most harmonious sound she had ever heard, like an unsung passionate song. She dug her nails into his shoulders as she clung to him and each time he thrusted into her core, she was being pushed closer and closer to the edge insanity. She knew that when she fell over that threshold, she would be lost forever. Even though the air was cool, their combined body heat caused friction. Her thighs slipped against his sides, and his chest against her sensitive breasts glided over her skin in a sensual caress. She was getting so close, but she didn’t want to cum, not yet. She wanted to prolong the sensation that was shooting tiny sparks of static up and down her spine. Please don’t stop, not now, not ever.
Clearly those pleas didn’t help the situation, because as Oron’s fingers dug into the soft flesh of her bottom, relentlessly hammering his cock into her as if there was no tomorrow, she lost it and flung her arms around his neck. Her legs trembled and her walls squeezed around his rock hard cock, and then he grunted and groaned as his cock throbbed and pulsed, filling her with his seed. They stood like that in each other’s arms, until they both slowly spiralled down from their euphoric summit, where she knew her heart was left behind.
Oron pulled away and cupped the side of her face, meeting her eyes, but instead of contentedness, there was a dark storm that raged behind the windows of his soul. She bit her lip and looked away from his intense gaze, afraid of what she may find if she stared any longer.
In silence they both got dressed and Oron let her out first, “I’ll be up in a bit, I have a few things to attend to,” he said and kissed the top of her head.
She inhaled through her nose, blanked out her thoughts, and smiled, “Sure, I’ll start dinner.”
Chapter 10
Oron cursed inwardly the moment Alison disappeared up the stairs. He was in serious trouble. Not only had he been admiring her secretly for almost a year, he was putting her life in danger. Every single minute she was with him, she stood a chance of falling for him, in fact, it was already too late. Her soul was committed to his, and once that happened, there was no turning back. But he could not take a chance on her life. Not only could he be the cause of her death, inevitably the Ronul’s would find out about him and Maurice, and when they did, Alison would be nothing but collateral damage.
A noise outside alerted him, at first he jumped at the sound but Maurice’s scent filtered in on the slight breeze that cooled down the air.
“I waited outside, I didn’t want to interrupt,” he said with a slight hint of a smile.
“Maybe you should have,” Oron said and shook his head, “This is way too fucking complicated. Not to mention dangerous.”
Maurice placed his hand on Oron’s arm, “We can’t help it when our beasts seek companionship. At least your bear has good taste in women.”
“He’s clearly fucking suicidal too.”
Maurice roared with laughter, “Oh come on Or, it’s not all as bad as you make it out to be.”
Oron shook his head and pulled his shirt on, “So did you come to spy on me or are you here for a reason that does not involve my sex life?”
“I came to let you know that Gareth was around again. He’s really obsessed with Alison.”
Oron dragged his fingers through his ruffed up hair, “Yeah, he is, but he has another thing coming if he thinks I will allow him anywhere near her.”
“Well that’s why I’m here, actually; I’m wondering if she would be able to find out what their plans are, if he trusts her enough.”
“Are you out of your fucking mind? Do you have any idea what he’s capable of?”
“Seriously, she’s a lot stronger now, I can smell it. She’s no longer the weak girl with the broken past. She knows what she wants and if you can convince her to…”
“No.”
It was a simple definitive answer. Oron would under no circumstances, hand Alison over to that pathetic excuse for a human, even if it cost his life.
“Oron…”
“NO!” he ground out, “We will deal with the Ronul’s our way, and I’m not using her as a pawn.”
Maurice stood with his hands on his hips and his head lowered, “It’s not going to end well. We’re flying blind.”
“No we’re not, we know who they are, but they have no idea who we are. Right now, they think you’re the owner of Teddy Bear, and I’m a recluse with a lack in social skills… we’ll deal.”
“You’re fucking stubborn,” Maurice muttered, “Look, I know you like her, but you’ve said so yourself. A shifter and a mortal simply do not fit, and it’s a recipe for disaster.”
“That was then, and this is now, I am not putting her life on the line to save my own ass.”
“What about my ass?” Maurice protested, “At this rate they will soon find out what I am, and then I’m fucked. They come to the diner every day, and my beast is hungry for their blood, I’m going to lose my control sooner or later.”
“Then close the restaurant down, go away for a while and lay low, and by the time you get back, either I’ll be dead or they will be.”
“And what good will you being dead do? What happens to Alison when you’re no longer here to protect her?”
“Nothing is going to happen to me, and I will protect her until the day she asks me to stop.”
“Have you told her?” Maurice asked, leering at Oron.
“No,” he muttered under his breath, “I will, in good time.”
“Hey babe, by the way, I’m a shifter, to be more exact, a bear shifter,” Maurice mocked.
“It’s not that easy, and now that we’ve had sex…”
“You’re a fucking moron, you’ve bedded her under false pretences, do you think for one second that she would just roll over and let you pet her when she finds out your origin?”
“I know, I know,” Oron muttered, “It just happened, it… fuck,” he cursed under his breath not knowing what else to say.
Maurice stood with his hands on either side of his head looking at Oron. Oron was well aware of the fact that his predicament was a lot more complicated than he would like to admit. If the Ronuls got any idea that he was a shifter, they could use Alison against him, but even if they never found out, she would eventually have to discover his true nature, and then all hell will break loose. He shook his head, frustrated.
“I need air,” he said and then trudged up the stairs and out of the basement, “Lock up behind you.”
He didn’t wait for Maurice to respond, he simply headed to the place where he felt most at home, the forest. Angry and frustrated, he tore off his clothes as he stormed into the thicket of trees. Birds took flight to flee from his sight as his body started to transform. Bones snapped and popped as they shifted into their animal forms, elongating and stretching beyond what’s normal. His muscles rippled beneath the surface and coarse
hair sprouted from his skin like thick needles, and as his face stretched and his nose morphed into a long muzzle he set off, sprinting towards the mountain side. Big black paws crushed the pine needles and leaves under him as he headed away from the cabin and the small town. She would never love a monster like him, he thought to himself. But he knew that he had to tell her, or show her, and live with the consequences of his actions. The sooner he told her, the sooner she would get out of town and leave him to deal with the Ronul’s on his own. If he was lucky, he would have the chance to kill Gareth, and that would set Alison free once and for all.
He reached the foot of the mountain side and stopped, raised his muzzle to the air and sniffed for any sign of potential danger. With the influx of tourist to the region, hunting wild life was near impossible, so he had a slim chance of running into a hunter. Still, better to be safe than sorry. Besides that technicality, there were Ronul’s roaming the area, and although he only knew of two at this point, he couldn’t be sure how many there really were.
Once he knew it was safe, he lazily walked along the foot of the mountain where he could gather his thoughts. Away from the busy world of humanity and away from the woman that constantly haunted his mind.
He had to think of a way to tell her about him, and it wasn’t going to be easy.
Chapter 11
Two days had passed since Oron had taken her to heaven and back in the outside basement, and since then there had been no sight of him. It was as if he disappeared into thin air. She had noticed Maurice at the cabin the same day, but he went to see Oron and hadn’t even bothered to check in on her. Oron had obviously seen to it that she had enough food to last her, but she wasn’t interested in food. She wanted him… all the fucking time. At night when she crawled into his bed, she was assaulted by his musky scent that clung to the pillows, and during the day she kept looking out the window for any sign of him. It made no sense that he would leave her like this, she thought as she sat outside on a stump under a big tree on the second day, once again waiting and hoping that he would return.
