Vanessa
The previous summer….
“Oh, fuck. Cam!” The loud moan comes out of the back of my throat as Cam’s large hand clasps over my mouth while his other hand's fingers are working magic on my clit and his impressive cock moves in and out of me at just the right speed. Good Lord, he knows my body.
I wish he didn’t. I wish I could forget everything about Cameron Brown, but it’s impossible. I tried. It didn’t work. He’s everywhere in my life.
My best friend, Hannah, is practically married to one of his best friends, Lucas Monroe. Hannah is an angel sent to me out of nowhere. As far as I’m concerned, she’s my sister. The girl is amazing. She knows everything about me, but never judges.
Not only that, Cam’s other best friend, Hunter Thompson, is dating Luke's younger sister, Cassie. So you see, it’s a total clusterfuck. Not to mention Luke and Cassie’s family has pretty much adopted us all. Cam and I don’t spend the holidays with our own dysfunctional families. No, we spend them across the table from one another at Brooke and Dylan Monroe’s, Luke’s older brother and sister-in-law.
My long legs wrap around his firm ass that is solid muscle like the rest of his body, and his mouth sucks gently on my neck as I feel the all too familiar buildup of an orgasm brought on by Cam. Thank God his hand is still over my mouth because when it hits, it’s powerful, pulling a guttural moan from deep inside of me. He speeds up his movements and joins me over the edge, clenching his jaw tightly, holding back his own cries of passion.
It’s fairly dark in the room, but I can see those stormy, dark blue eyes staring down at me. His short, dirty blonde hair is messy from my fingers, and his normally playful expression is full of questions and worry as he pulls out of me. He lays perfectly still as he stares up at the ceiling.
He must know what I’m going to say. Why shouldn’t he? I’ve been saying it all summer.
“That is the absolute last time, Cam.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah, Van,” he says dismissively as he rolls to his side to examine me, the playfulness back in his eyes. “That’s what you said when we fucked in the bathroom the day you knocked Dani's ass in the pool during Shriller's birthday party at Dylan and Brooke's. That’s what you said the Fourth of July at their cabin, when we fucked in the lake. And that’s what you’ve said the numerous other times we've hooked up since you broke up with me over a year ago.”
I roll to my side, still totally naked, but it’s not like he hasn’t seen every single inch of me. Cam and I started dating at the end of our freshmen year of college, and our relationship was intense for a little over a year. Then everything ended.
Except it didn’t.
I can’t stay away from him.
“It needs to end, Cam. We’re about to start our senior year of college. You’re playing football. I’m playing volleyball. We need laser focus, not to be all twisted up in this dangerous game.” I look deep into his beautiful eyes, “No more.”
His lips graze mine and for a brief second, everything fades away. All the jealousy, all the fear, the arguments, and the bullshit is gone with the prelude to a life-altering kiss from Cam, but instead of leaning into it, he pauses. “I don’t get this, Vanessa.”
“You don’t get what, Cam?” I whisper against his lips.
“Why we are apart in the first fucking place. It makes no sense. I’ve wanted you since day one, and you clearly want me, so what the hell is stopping us from being together?”
His voice is raspy and low as his nose brushes mine with his lips still dangerously close. My tone is sarcastic and honestly a little bitchy when I turn my head away from him, taking a temporary reprieve from the threat of a kiss. “Let me think.” I bring my finger up to my chin, pretending to ponder the question and then shoot a reason out—the name that started it all. “Krista Rogers.”
Cam climbs quickly up to a sitting position on the bed, his ab and arm muscles flexing with instant tension. “I didn’t fuck her. Damn it, Vanessa.”
I join him in sitting up, pulling the sheet up with me to cover my naked breasts. “Why did she say you did, Cam? And even if you didn’t there are numerous other reasons.”
His head snaps in my direction, fury
is in his eyes now. This is where we always end up. “Like fucking what?”
“Like the hundreds of girls you’ve been with, including that little skank Dani, since we broke up,” I shoot back at him. Cam is now and has always been a player. He owns it most of the time, no shame. He likes sex and women, and he gets around, but he vehemently denies cheating on me. That’s what I don’t get. He owns up to everything, but that.
“The key words there, Vanessa, are ‘broke up.’ As in, we weren’t fucking together because you won’t just give in and be with me.”
I scoff and climb off the bed, finding my shorts and slipping them on before searching around for my top. “Please. Monogamy isn’t natural, remember.” I use his own words against him. Words he used during a heated game of Never Have I Ever we played with Hunter, Cassie, and Dani. The first night he hooked up with her.
He rubs his temples, looking in near pain. “I tried with you, Vanessa.”
I find my top and pull it on over my head, looking at him sadly. “I know you did, but it’s just not in you, Cam. You love women, all women. You like to sample, not buy.”
He shakes his head as he climbs off the bed, standing in total, unabashed glory. He strides confidently over to me and, without warning, grabs my face in his hands, pulling me into an intense, soul-crushing kiss. He kisses me like he loves me and hates me at the same time. Maybe he does. When he pulls away, I try to catch my breath as my face stays in his hands, and he grits out, “That’s bullshit, Van. I would have given that all up for you. Don’t judge me for trying like crazy to enjoy life after you ripped my fucking heart out.”
My eyes betray me as they roam down over his cut body. Shit. His looks alone make me stupid, but his kiss and his touch, they take away every brain cell I’ve ever had, and I start to think his words almost sound like the truth. That’s why I need to avoid this in the future.
I grip his forearms and push them down and away, taking a step back from him. “I can’t go into this again. Our decision to break up was the right one. Deep down we both know it. You like sleeping around, you’re having a blast. We’re graduating this year, and I want to get into grad school, which means I need to focus. Getting my master’s in social work, being able to change the world one child at a time, that’s my happiness, Cam. I need it. So no more of this.” I gesture at the new space between us.
Cam walks further away from me and pulls a pair of tight jeans over that magnificent ass. “Yeah, well you just keep telling yourself that. See how fucking long you can go, because you and I both know who has made the first move every fucking time.”
It’s true. The longest I’ve gone without Cam’s touch since we met is about three months. Something always pulls me back to him. That three months was when he started hooking up with Dani, the chick I knocked, I mean accidentally tripped and she fell, into the pool. Dani is Cassie's best friend. She’s also always at every family event.
Cluster. Fuck.
I can’t stand her. She’s always all over Cam and, although she still claims she only wants him for his body, I know differently. I see the way she looks at him when he’s not looking, when he’s usually looking at me. I should just be a better woman and step back, let her have him. Move on for good.
Unfortunately, I’m not sure that will ever be possible.
But I’m going to try like hell.
Chapter 1
Cam
“Wake up, Cam. I want to do naughty things to you.” I smile at the sound of the feminine purr in my ear in my semi-awake state, my eyes still tightly shut, not wanting to come out of my dream state.
Vanessa?
I feel a warm, naked body on top of me, thighs straddling my legs, and I move my hands up to grip a firm ass.
I keep my eyes shut as I feel hands slipping a condom on over my fully awakened cock and let out a low groan as she impales herself on my dick. She moves her hips, pushing me deep inside of her. My hands roam upward, and reality finally hits me when they cup a set of full, large tits.
Van’s tits are perfect, but with her athletic build and slender frame, they are about half the size as the ones gracing my palms. And of course, she hasn’t let me touch her for almost eight fucking months. Since we rented a house with Cassie and Hunter in Kansas City.
She used to sneak into my room almost every night, and we would do our best to be quiet, no matter how good it felt, so Cass and Hunt wouldn’t know. I’m sure they knew anyway, but they never said a word.
Then the last night before we moved back to Manhattan to finish our final year of college, she told me it couldn’t happen again. Just like she always did. Except it looks like it’s going to stick this time.
We’re trying like crazy to remain friends while she keeps me at arms length.
I finally pry my tired eyes open, and I look into the eyes of Dani as she rides me, pushing us both toward release.
What the fuck? She never spends the night.
She must see the confusion in my eyes as she leans down, dragging her lips along my jawline. “Sorry. I guess I fell asleep. So, I thought I’d make the best of it before throwing on my clothes and sneaking out.”
I don’t do relationships. I just fucking don’t. Why the hell would I limit myself to just one person when there are so many hot chicks with various skills in the sack?
What? For companionship? I’ve got Hunt and Luke if I ever want someone to hang out with. Hell even, Hannah, Cassie, Dani and Van. We all have a good time.
Love? I was raised by upper middle-class lawyers in Boston. Both criminal attorneys, working for the bad guys. Of course, only the rich bad guys because “fuck the poor ones”—their exact words. Warm and fuzzy, right? They were never home, and even when they were, neither one of my parents have a fucking clue what affection is. That shit is for the weak. At least that’s how my three sisters and I were raised, so I just didn’t grow up needing it.
I’m happy though. I truly am. I’m always up for a good time, and I’m not ashamed of who I am. I love to fuck. Anyone who doesn’t isn’t doing it right. So, I take every opportunity I can get.
Vanessa is the one and only woman I have ever tried monogamy with, and that shit blew up in my face. Big mistake.
So usually a chick staying the night is a total no-no for me, but this is Dani. She’s Cassie's best friend since high school and literally the female version of me. She’s legitimately only interested in my cock. And my hands. And my mouth. We’ve been hooking up, off and on, for almost two years, and we haven’t had one problem.
I like her, don’t get me wrong. She’s a cool chick especially for how fucked-up she is, but it’s just not like that with us. I smirk up at Dani, gripping her ass and flipping us, so I’m on top and in charge as I thrust inside of her. “It’s cool.”
My lips find that spot on her collarbone that drives her wild as she lifts one leg up toward her head, taking us to a new position that feels incredible.
I support her calf with my hand and close my eyes again. Of course, my dumbass mind goes straight to where it always wants to go. Van.
Her long, muscular legs.
Wrapped around me.
Vanessa is the most straight-laced, focused chick you’ll ever meet until you get her to open up, until you strip her down and make her scream. Watching Van let loose is the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. My dick gets even harder just thinking about it.
The first night Vanessa and I hooked up, we stayed up fucking and talking until the sun came up. We talked about anything and everything. Usually, after I come, I’m done. I get out as fast as I can. But that night, shit, I didn’t want it to end.
The sound of Van moaning my name in my ear the first time I made her come floods my memory as I feel hands grip my ass and a pussy clenching, nearly strangling my cock, sending me over the edge. “Fuck! Van,” I groan out as I come.
I freeze. Oh shit. I open my eyes slowly and peer into Dani’s eyes cautiously. I can’t read her expression and decide to roll off her. I stare up a
t the ceiling.
Oh, fuck. I said another girl’s name while I was inside of her. She’s going to cut my balls off with a rusty knife. I raise my arm and grip my temples with one hand, “Dani, I…”
She sits up on my bed, looking around the room for her clothes. “I should go.”
“You don’t have to,” I manage to get out. I called her Van. Who does that?
She stands up, and I realize she’s grinning. It seems genuine as she pulls on the short jean skirt she had on last night and finds her hot pink tank top. “Yeah, I do. I didn’t mean to stay the night, and I have shit to do before the party tonight.” She pulls the tank top on over her head, covering her sexy body and is still smirking.
How the hell does she have a smile on her face right now? Told ya, female version of me. But, shit, even I would be offended if I was fucking some chick and she screamed out another dude's name. She seems totally unaffected. “Going shopping with, Cass, but I’ll see ya later.”
I sit up, leaning back against the headboard, still stunned by her coolness. “Sounds good.”
With that, she grabs her purse off my floor and leaves. No more talking, no kiss goodbye, or making me promise to call. That’s not Dani’s style.
I momentarily shrug it off and climb off my bed, pulling on the first pair of gym shorts I find.
I stretch and yawn, as I make my way down the hallway in the house Hunt and I have rented together for the past three years.
Fucking Choirboy, as Luke and I affectionately nicknamed him freshmen year. Seriously, the guy is a saint. He’s engaged to Luke’s little sister, Cassie, now, but before her, his dick had only ever been inside of one other pussy. Two women. That’s it.
He’s getting married at the end of July, and I know Hunt, he’s only getting married once. He loves that girl. And the fucked-up thing is, he’s absolutely cool with only being with two chicks in his lifetime.
I don’t get him at all. But he’s still my best friend, so whatever floats his boat.
He’s standing in the kitchen, chugging water at the sink and from the looks of it, just got back from his morning run. The guy is disciplined as fuck. “Hey,” I practically grunt as I make my way over to the fridge and pull out a beer, twisting the top and taking a drink.
