He sat in his office now, thinking over all the ways he’d come to enjoy her company, and quickly realizing she’d become far more than just a passing amusement. He pulled open the top desk drawer, gazing at the ring there—it had been his grandmother’s and it would belong to the next Duchess of Weymouth.

Was that really what he wanted? He would have to make a decision soon.

A knock sounded at the door and he closed the drawer. Even before he called for her to enter his body responded to the anticipation of seeing her once more…maybe taking her right there in his office.

But as the door opened, it wasn’t Hannah standing on the other side.

“I think I’m losing my mind, Gage,” his brother, Adam, told him as the man dragged himself into the room, shutting the door behind him. Though he resided at the manor, his brother had a house in London, and he also spent a great deal of his time wandering aimlessly since his young wife died a year prior.

“It has been a difficult year for you, Adam, but I’m sure your mind is intact.” He wished he could do more for his brother, but hopefully with time he would come around.

  “It isn’t. I’m quite sure.”

“How can you be so certain?”

“The other night…I came back to the manor. I only intended to get clean, perhaps have a hot meal…and I saw her. Her long, dark hair…so much like Rebecca.”

What was Adam talking about? Hannah? Had he seen Hannah? Sure, there may be some small resemblance, but Adam’s wife had been shorter than Hannah, her face plainer and her eyes were nothing like Hannah’s vivid blue orbs.

  “I couldn’t help myself. She seemed so real…her soft skin…her heat…”

Suddenly, he didn’t like the way this conversation was going. It sounded like Adam had touched the woman he’d thought was his wife…but the only lady in the manor was Hannah.

“I know it makes no sense, but she was so warm. Damn it, Gage, so god damned warm—more than Rebecca ever was. But when I was inside her, I got the feeling something wasn’t right. And then, you know what happened? She whispered your name of all things! Can you believe it? My delusional mind, and it made my wife long for you!”

White, hot rage rushed through his veins as his brother’s words reverberated through his mind. “…when I was deep inside her…” Adam had come upon Hannah when he’d returned to the manor, and she’d gone to him willingly. She’d let him take his pleasure inside her.

Another knock sounded at the door then, and for Hannah’s sake, he prayed it was the maid. If he had to face her right now, he may just commit the violence she’d feared from him all this time. The door opened tentatively before he’d responded, and her deceptively beautiful face appeared in the doorway.

“I’m sorry, my lord, but I have something for you. I…” she looked at him then and her words seemed to catch in her throat as whatever she’d had in her hand fell to the floor. She averted her gaze and it was only then she laid eyes on Adam. Though apparently, it was not the first time she’d laid eyes on him.

Her expression was immediately perplexed, and her gaze moved back and forth between the two of them. He and Adam were twins, Gage the eldest by mere minutes.

Something that looked an awful lot like appalled understanding dawned in her eyes then, and it gave him a moment’s pause. If she wasn’t aware that he had a twin brother…could she have gone to Adam unknowingly? Or was she an exceptional actress in the midst of her greatest performance?

Fury threatened to overwhelm him as he turned to his brother and saw the same perplexity on his face…and then understanding dawned there, too. His brother hadn’t known what he’d done, that Hannah had belonged to him—or else he never would have come to Gage in the first place about it. Still, he didn’t give a damn.

“Is this the woman whose body you sampled?” he roared as he strode across the room to her. “Did you delve in deep and make her scream the way she did for me?” He tore the gown from her body in a single motion, but she didn’t resist. He could see the fear in her eyes; she was afraid of what he’d do if she did fight him.

“Yes…and no,” Adam answered his questions, still standing there stunned. Adam wasn’t lying; he knew him well enough to know when he was lying. Did that mean Hannah hadn’t responded to Adam the same way she had to him. And then he remembered what Adam had said, “…she whispered your name…” Whispered? She’d been so responsive in his arms, coming over and over again; he’d had her screaming in pleasure. And she hadn’t whispered Adam’s name. It had been his name on her lips. It caused a chink in the armor of anger he wore, but it wasn’t enough to make it give way.

He wanted to see it for himself. He wanted to see the proof that she’d only given herself to Adam unwittingly, that her body responded to his touch in a way his brother could never elicit. And seeing her standing there so unclothed, another raging emotion threatened to overwhelm him, too.

Without letting himself think, he turned to her and tore her shift away. And then he was there quickly, kissing her with reckless abandon. His hands roamed over her bare flesh, squeezing her breasts and pinching her nipples between his fingers. He felt the shiver of desire course through her despite her exposed position—or maybe part in response to it. Though the perfect lady on the surface, there was so much more to Hannah underneath.

He moved his thigh between hers and pressed hard against her bare slit. Innately, she began to move against him, creating the friction against her clitoris that she needed while her hands reached for him, grazing across his chest, over his shoulders.

But he forced himself to pull away a moment later. “Show me,” he told his brother, eyeing Hannah to explain the full import of what he was saying. He returned his attention to her, kissing her, touching her, inciting the fire deep inside her despite what was going on around her. Of course Adam was hesitant, but he could also see the desire he had for her, the woman moaning in pleasure right in front of him. He wouldn’t resist for long. No, he wanted the woman who was naked and pliant in Gage’s arms.

Adam came forward after a moment, and Gage pulled away from Hannah’s eager lips. Eyeing her once more, he turned her toward Adam. His brother’s lips covered hers then, and the man’s hands swept down her body.

Watching the scene before him—the scene he’d created—it filled him with an odd mixture of rage and desire, but quickly he began to see the difference; the way her body wasn’t responding to his brother like it had for him. Adam cupped her breasts, kissing along her jaw, down her neck…but she stood there motionless, her arms at her sides. She could feel it, he had no doubt, but his brother’s careful caresses didn’t compare to the ardent way Gage pleasured her body.

His jealousy began to give way and in its place the other emotion burned bright—lust. Raw, uninhibited lust. He watched the erotic display, but suddenly he wanted to see her responding, to see her caught up in pleasure. He stepped forward, not pushing his brother away, but standing behind her, spreading her thighs and letting his fingers find her. She wasn’t sopping wet like she’d been for him. But she would be. Soon.

He slipped a finger inside her, pressing against that most sensitive spot inside her with every slide. She didn’t resist, and he could even feel a small tremor course through her body. But he wanted more. He leaned in closer, until his lips were a hair’s breadth from her ear. “I want this, Hannah. I want to see your body in pleasure. I’m not angry with you. I understand what happened, that it wasn’t your fault. You didn’t know. But watching you like this…I never imagined I would enjoy it so much.”

“I can’t,” she whispered, though he could feel her body responding despite her protest.

“Yes, you can. Let me enjoy you like this.”

She breathed deep, but as she exhaled, he could feel a change in her, like she was giving herself over to him, no different than she had every other time he’d taken her body. He wrapped his free arm around her, coming to rest on the cleft at the apex of her thighs. He rubbed, ever so gently, and her hips jerked in r
esponse. Yes, this is what he wanted.

Adam leaned down and sucked her nipple into his mouth and her body jerked against his hand. Her arms remained at her sides, but he could see it was taking an effort.

“Touch him,” he whispered, and when she opened her mouth to protest, he grabbed hold of her hand and raised it to his brother’s chest. He could feel it the moment she stopped resisting, and he released her, returning his attention to her wet heat while Adam sank to his knees in front of her.

Gage spread her soft lips from behind and watched over her shoulder as Adam closed the distance and slipped his tongue between her open folds. Her hips writhed and a moan escaped her lips as she pressed her body back closer against him. Adam’s tongue worked its magic and before long, her cries of pleasure filled the room.

  “Gage, it’s too much…I can’t hold off…”

And in that moment, he felt precisely the same way. He lifted her in one arm and cleared the desk with his other, laying her out on the cool wood and freeing his cock in a flash. She was already wrapping her legs around his hips as he lined himself up and drove in to the hilt. He’d fantasized about watching a woman…about being free to see her in pleasure at whatever angle he chose, but he’d never imagined it would be like that, that it would fill his cock with every drop of blood in his body, making him throb more painfully than ever before.

Adam rounded the table as Gage thrust hard and deep, and it didn’t take him long to figure out what his brother was up to. And though he would have liked to have been the first to feel the heat of her mouth, he relished the thought of watching her in such a wanton act. Adam stopped near her head and freed himself from his trousers, lining himself up and pressing the tip of his shaft against her lips.

“Open your mouth, Hannah,” Gage instructed, and though a flicker of uncertainty passed in her gaze, she obeyed, letting Adam push himself past her lips and slip into her mouth. His brother wound his fingers at the back of her head and guided her movements thrusting as much of his cock into her mouth as she could manage. But before long, he released her as she’d once again let her body take over, moving like an expert, even hollowing her cheeks to enhance Adam’s pleasure.

Gage increased his pace as he reached down to rub her clitoris, watching as she thrust to meet him and she began to suck greedily on the cock in her mouth. She was a wild woman, caught up in the throes of pleasure, and it drove him to the brink fast. But she toppled over first, her hips jerking beneath him and her back arching clear off the desk as she screamed around Adam’s shaft.

Adam was next, fucking her mouth for another moment before he jerked forward, stilling deep in her mouth. Gage watched as her throat worked to swallow every drop his brother gave her. The sight of her combined with the way her pussy spasmed around his cock sent him to join them, thrusting deep and releasing the groan deep from his chest as he shot his essence inside her.

It took her a moment to come back down, but he knew the moment she did; her cheeks grew red and her blush stretched clear across her body. Without withdrawing from her, he leaned forward and kissed her rosy breasts, her heated neck, her forehead, her cheeks, before he paused next to her ear.

“There is nothing to feel embarrassed about, my lady. You gave me precisely what I wanted, and I know it is only me you wished to please. You are an amazing woman, and I have finally learned never to question that again.”

She nodded, and surprisingly her blush seemed to fade a little. Adam had straightened his clothing and looked on at the scene awkwardly. Gage laughed as he withdrew and pulled Hannah upright against his chest.

“Don’t look so uncomfortable, dear brother. No harm was done here, only pleasure. But if it would make you feel better, I won’t ask you for your help in satisfying Hannah anymore.”

“No, no,” he stumbled to object quickly, making Gage laugh harder.

“Then perhaps we will see in the future. For now, I’d appreciate it if you’d leave Hannah and I alone for a moment. There is something I very much need to ask her.”

Adam looked at him perplexed for a moment it seemed he understood Gage’s cryptic request quickly. His eyes widened but for a moment, but his expression changed quickly to one of approval and he left.

Gage opened the top drawer of his desk, still holding Hannah tightly against his chest. Was he certain…yes he was. He pulled out the ring and held it in his open hand.

“Hannah, this has been in my family for five generations. It belonged to my mother. You would do me great honor if you allowed me to place it on your finger on our wedding day.”

Her lips parted, even more stunned than she’d appeared at the outrageous turn of events the past hour. “You’re not serious, my lord. After what happened…”

“I told you that you did no more than give me precisely what I wanted. I had been angry, and I was wrong to be so, but I do not regret what happened. Seeing you that way…you have ruined me for all other women, I’m afraid. Never could I find a more sensual woman if I searched the world over.”

“Gage, there is something I must tell you, and it very well might change your opinion of me.”

  “Is that so?”

“What I told you when you first found me…”

“Your uncle will cause you no trouble, my love. It was I to whom you were betrothed all along.”

Her jaw dropped open and she attempted to squirm away from him, but he held her tight.

  “You knew? But when…how?”

“In truth, I knew from the start you were not what you said, but I did not know why you hid the fact you were no maid. It was not until I was in London that I understood. I had a man look into the matter soon after you arrived, and I met him in London, meeting with your uncle shortly after.”

“You met with Uncle William…but why?”

“To modify the agreement of our betrothal. I told him I wanted none of what was offered to me in the contract. It is only you that I want Hannah.”

  “You did that?”

“Yes, well, I did not fully understand what I felt for you when I left for London, but I understand it clearly now. Now, Hannah…I have answered several of your questions, but you have yet to answer mine.” He smiled teasingly.

“Yes, my lord. I confess I do not know the depths of this woman inside me, but I know it is only with you I wish to discover more of her. So, of course I will marry you.”

  Chapter One

She placed her pale skin against the porcelain chamber pot, the ivory of the vomit stained bedpan the same shade as her soft skin. She could not recall a time in her nineteen years when she had felt so poorly.

This journey will be the death of me, Lucy thought mournfully, fighting back another round of sickness as her stomach churned dangerously. She was not certain she had another drop left in her to expel.

“Miss Hanover, please lay back. It is but seasickness. We have reached rough waters,” her butler, Daniel implored, pressing a cold compress to her waxen face. Obligingly, Lucy settled back against the pillows and inhaled deeply. She closed her golden-brown eyes and prayed for the choppy travel to end. They had been in the middle of the weather-shattered Atlantic for two days and Lucy had been bedridden with illness since the start. While she had much experience on the water, spending her childhood splashing about the River Thames in sailboats, nothing had prepared h
er for the moody waves of the deep ocean.

But it will be over in just a few short days and I will be in the arms of my betrothed. It is a small sacrifice to make for a future of happiness, Lucy told herself.

“Drink, my lady,” Daniel urged, pressing a glass to her lips. Lucy opened her eyes to accept the glass from her manservant.

“Thank you, Daniel,” she told him. “You may go. I must rest.”

Bowing formally, Daniel ducked out of the spacious bedroom and into the parlor area of the cabin. The quarters were designed for the comfort of the very wealthy and expensively decorated. There were gold-flecked mirrors on two of the walls in the sleeping area, a large, soft canopy bed and two intricately designed night tables on either side of the thick curtains ensuring her uninterrupted slumber. Only the finest porcelain had been used to manufacture the basin and urn. If Lucy had not been so ill, she would have marvelled at the luxury in which she had been surrounded.

It was not that Lucy Hanover had been unaccustomed to such extravagance. On the contrary in fact. She had been reared opulently in a sprawling castle in Oxfordshire, the second oldest daughter of four. Her father had spared no expense on neither the Hanover children’s wants nor their education and the four women had grown into beautiful, intelligent women. Yet with his generosity had come a strict desire to ensure his daughters appreciated the blessings which they had been bestowed. Hugh Hanover demanded respect and obedience from his children, two appeals which the girls provided freely. They trusted their father so faithfully, when time came to find proper suitors for marriage, Elizabeth, Lucy’s oldest sister had approached Hugh.

“Father, I would like to entrust you with the duty of finding me a proper husband,” she told him. While Hugh had been flattered with the task, it had not come as a surprise and he immediately went to work, finding Elizabeth a mate. He was a newspaper publisher in Chicago and while Hugh loathed to see his eldest sent away, he understood that her future was much shinier in the New World.
