“And?”
Elliot shook his head. “I didn’t agree with what he did, it was damn foolish to be honest but his heart was in the right place and maybe that’s what this country needs now. Maybe it isn’t the government that will turn the tide on a collapsed society, maybe it just needs more people like Clive.”
“Fools?” she asked.
“No, just people who refuse to give in to hate.”
As he wrapped his arm around her and they strode on, behind them Damon piped up. “You know I was never one for settling down,” Damon said, acting like it didn’t bother him.
“Is that right?” Jesse replied, grinning as he put his arm around Maggie’s shoulder. “That’s strange you’d say that because I’m pretty sure it was you who was kicking up a fuss until early this morning, wasn’t it?”
Maggie chuckled.
Damon furrowed his brow. “Me? No. What are you on about?”
Jesse raised his eyebrows. “Oh, so it wouldn’t have had anything to do with Brianna deciding to go with Rayna?”
He shot him a sideways glance.
“Brianna? Please. Oh Jesse, when are you ever going to learn?”
He didn’t look at Jesse for a few seconds then a smile formed on his face.
