  Only when they were both absolutely drained did they stop feasting on each other. Panting, gasping and groaning, Toni rolled off James’ long, lean body and flopped onto the covers.

  They lay there, head-to-feet, gasping to get their breath back.

  “Oh, shit, baby,” Toni eventually purred. “I missed you.”

  “I could tell,” James grinned.

  Struggling to sit up, the gorgeous black girl looked down at her muscular white lover.

  “How was Vegas?”

  “Good. They’re trying to find me a new opponent for next month.”

  “Well, I hope they wrestle better than Baller.”

  James laughed, and looked over at Toni. She looked beautiful, even with her hair messed up and his cum glistening on her chin.

  The last few weeks had been a roller coaster ride for both of them.

  For four days, James had been stuck in town while the police processed what had happened between him and Hannibal at the Hilton. Ultimately, Hannibal wrote a check for damaged furniture and all complaints were dropped – but that wasn’t good enough for the MMA fight commission.

  They heard testimony from both sides, and ultimately suspected Hannibal for three months. More significantly, they annulled the result of the bout between him and James – ultimately making the split-decision defeat a blank slate for next time.

  “And there’ll be a next time,” James grinned. “And I’ll show no mercy when there is.”

  Toni grinned. Purring, she slopped down on the Scotsman’s chest, and ran her fingers through his reddish blonde chest hair.

  As for her? Breaking up with Baller hadn’t been the disaster she’d feared it would.

  The TMZ footage made its way online. Stories of Toni’s affair went viral.

  There were some who hated her for it, of course. In fact, an entire Twitter hashtag campaign cropped up: “#hatethathoe”.

  But other people saw it differently – like Oprah, who interviewed Toni about the scandal, and Ebony magazine, which ran a pictorial and essay about her escape from the ghetto, and subsequent independence from Hannibal Alexander.

  “She’s bold, she’s black, and she don’t need no man” was the headline – and it came to define her.

  “My new album hits next week,” Toni kissed James’ chest. “Will you make it to the launch party?”

  James stroked her hair. “Only if you’ll make it to my next fight.”

  “Wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

  Their confrontation with Hannibal had thrust both James and Toni into the spotlight; and they were shining. But, more than that, they’d found each other.

  And, as they lay entwined on that bed, bathed in the California sunshine, they both solemnly made promises never to lose their way again.
