Thinking about that, I turned back to face my open window, where I always stood when sleep did not immediately overcome me. The yellow stars filled the night sky with great splendor and in their company was a full moon, brightening the obscure clouds. I closed my eyes slowly and imagined a black owl flying over the mysterious trees. I conjured it in my thoughts that it could come to meet me in that moment.
Without delay, an owl emerged on my room window. It was like Eros, when he morphed into that bird.
My cold lips molded a soft smile when I perceived that, my fingers stretched in the direction of it. The black owl stared down at my hands and landed just above them.
I remained to gaze at it with great passion. My heart began to hammer strongly in my chest. I could feel it in the interior of my body. Even Eros being very away from me, but the sensation of feeling him together me was something really very powerful.
“Eros!” I murmured, staring tenderly at the owl in my extended hand. It stared straight into my gray eyes as I kept facing it with vast expectation about the company of the most handsome vampire of the universe.
Its presence banished Eros’s absence in my life with immense efficiency.
Really it was fantastic and something enigmatic. A vampire was dependent on an innocent owl.
A rupture of thoughts brought me other panoramas of Eros and me in the past, just when we both were in Neptune, under the protection of my father.
Very soon after some minutes of search, I saw Eros standing in the final of the corridor. His back was turned to me, not necessarily to me, but to someone who could be there at his back.
“Came after me as always.” his voice sounded cold, even not looking back and seeing that this was me.
“Have you really taken your vaccine against sarcasm today?” I asked back and remained stopped at his back.
Eros glanced over one of his shoulders and declared for the second time.
“Yes, I have.” He ended up turning slowly to me and faced my gray eyes. “But it sounds you have not taken yours.”
The two of us left a short smile to become apparent in our faces.
“You are really getting excellent at that.” He asserted. “I am truly surprised.”
I looked at my glass with red strawberries and decided to offer him with civilization. “Do you want one of them?”
His eyes descended at the glass and saw the strawberries there so red.
“No, thanks.” His head shook in negation. “I am drinking wine.”
Made a pause.
“I also hate sweetmeats.”
“Now it is explicated the why you look so bitter.”
“Please Valkyrie, don’t start with your satires.” His head ran down and he gazed at the floor. “Today I am not in my best day, so I think you should pay some respect in this. Right? ”
My head descended too. I looked at my glass of sweetmeat and perceived Eros was not prepared to be in my company that night. He looked to want to be alone, and away from my presence.
“I am sorry.” Finally, I affirmed with a stumpy voice. “But why do you sound that way? What happened to you?”
He released a mouthful of air.
“I have had some nightmares. They have made me a little confused, just that.”
“What nightmares?” I insisted.
“Nothing to be worried about.”
“Okay.” I got a hold of a strawberry and took it to my lips. After some seconds, I asked then. “Could we change the subject then?” Looked at him again, “I wish to keep our converse up for a long time.”
Eros almost smiled at me, but instead of that, he drank a little from his red wine.
“That is always right you always wish to prolong our conversation.”
His body turned more back and his lips almost touched my ear as he said in an undertone. “You always love hearing my provocative voice.”
An immense shudder covered all my body, almost closed my eyes.
Eros left a malicious smile in the air during that, just after perceiving that his words had provoked me that.
“I am sorry.” He offered his apologies, after a short retrocession of body. “I had really forgotten that you are sensitive to my voice and your body even more.”
I got even more confused after that, and tried to look away, maybe to the sides and make an effort to keep the shudders away from my skin.
“You are always refined.”
My voice came to be evident to our ears.
He smirked at himself, seeing his black shirt a little open in front of his chest. His necklace with the symbol of Neptune shone even more in this occasion.
“I make a great effort to look like this.”
Currently, other fracture of view made me see my real reality. Even then, I remained fixed at night under a perfectly dark sky, until my sleep arrived to steal it from me with no permission.
CHAPTER 10
There were days I didn't feed appropriately.
Ultimately, I just fed on food prepared by my mother. This, however, didn’t extinguish my desire for human blood.
Since my return to the planet Earth, I wasn’t actually giving myself the privilege to drink any new human blood. My hunt began in a wood, distant from my home. I didn’t want to risk being surprised by someone I knew. I wished to save lives, so I went in search of some wild animal.
The thick scrub made it difficult for my journey. My clothes were also quite inappropriate for this particular mission. I should have hunted wearing black jeans and boots.
In fact, I dressed in a black skirt that went to my knees and a delicate colored blouse and worn sneakers. But I should have thought about my clothes when I went out home.
Going on the road to the forest, I had a bright idea that I wanted to become a ‘black panther’. Things would better and I could hunt with more precision. So I would not need to walk in vain like a human girl. There was no person next to me that could prevent me from turning into an exotic animal.
Soon my female body originated into a ‘black panther’. After a few steps, a policeman was in search of someone in the forest, maybe some fugitive bandit. He looked scared, after all, I was a wild animal and extremely dangerous. It was in his standpoint. He gestured toward me.
I jumped opposite him. It was my defense strategy. He shot his gun before I could attack him. His shooting was a little faster than I expected. Certainly, the bullet would have drilled my heart if it wasn’t for the action of an owl that appeared in front of me.
The dark owl sank to the ground and closed its eyes as if there was no life inside it.
My eyes got wide.
Trying to avenge what the policeman did to the unprotected animal, I immediately jumped on top of him and threw him to the ground. His firearm dropped from his hand. My triple jump didn’t allow any chance for the policeman to remain alive. Yeah, he was dead, his face was bloodied.
Very scared, I turned into human form again and moved toward the fallen owl on the ground. I knelt down next to it and placed my hand on its head. What started out looking like a wisp of smoke began to take shape as a masculine body and the gray smoke disappeared in that moment. It wasn’t the owl that was lying on the dirty ground.
It was a creature in human form, just a creature from Neptune. Despair came over me as soon as I perceived that I knew that creature in black.
I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. Soon my eyes opened extensively toward him. His black clothes and his silence made him even more mysterious. My heart ran in the interior of my chest. These beats occurred just when I saw the creature that was able to have me at his side forever.
“Eros!” I yelled as I was frantic at his image.
He was still unconscious and didn’t hear my yell. His body kept inactive as a stone. Soon, that made me even more worried about his situation.
“Eros!” I said, sliding my fingers on his head and his ears as I was pulling him to my lap. My eyes were fixed on his face. I was very scared at his collapse. At that moment I did
n’t think of he was a vampire and immortal as well. My mind didn’t any time to do that type of thing.
“Eros!”
At this second he opened his vampire eyes, just when he looked to hear finally my voice. I was so relieved when I saw he was conscious and breathing. So his gray gaze ran up and Eros observed my face above his for some time.
The static silence accompanied us.
“Why did you do that? The shot should have been for me.”
I affirmed, looking very worried about it and quickly glanced around and saw lots of green trees. My legs were still feeling Eros’s body’s weight on top of them.
But he didn't answer. Eros just closed his gray eyes all over again, without any enthusiasm for life.
CHAPTER 11
With a great responsibility in my hands, I transported myself, holding Eros in my arms. He was still unconscious. Then we were in his house - the same house which he had led me to once to reveal my true origin, just when I was human.
Eros was lying on the floor in front of me. His blood had dirtied my clothes. I was happy he was there beside me. Actually, I felt nervous about his wound.
After that, I put my right hand on his wound point and a gray energy appeared around his body, doing circular movements over him. Then, his wound was healed.
In this case, it had cost me my vampire energy. I was very weak since I hadn’t drunk any blood yet and I had lost sleep on many nights.
“Blood!” I managed to say before my body contorted and I bent forward, putting my palms on the floor. My head sounded strongly heavy. My eyes could not move up.
Eros opened his gray eyes and stared at me with apprehension. He got up speedily and came walking toward me. Then he took my arm and pulled me to him with great composure. Our bodies ended up getting in touch with each other.
“Valkyrie, are you all right?” he asked me then, looking at me with torment about my state. Eros looked to be worried about me and not about himself.
That was really evident.
“I’m very weak...” I said and my voice was almost inaudible before our ears. My eyes ended up running down. I felt my weakness with more force.
“You need blood,” Eros stated, finally looking into my eyes. He knew about that very well, just about our vampire universe. After all, he was in it much more time than me.
“It’s good to see you again.” I stared into his deep mysterious gray eyes and almost gave him a short smile of happiness.
He met my eyes for a second and then he looked away quickly toward the wall and saw a rat going up to the ceiling.
He leaped forward and did a somersault. He got to hold the rat with his left hand and kept his silent during that.
Without more ado, he walked closer to me with his hand extended, offering me his bizarre prey.
“This is for you,” he said, in a sensual voice.
At that moment, I looked at the hunt and as I realized I was being forced to devour a rat, well, it wasn't in my plans. However, I did nearly everything that Eros suggested to me.
“A rat?” I asked, my voice faltered at the end. I really was terrified of this alternative. I imagined Eros was used to this kind of thing, but not me. I always searched to keep rats away from me. Always.
“This is not so horrible, is it? It’s like eating at a five-star restaurant!” he complimented.
I held the rodent with my hand and ate it with aptitude. I licked my lips afterward as they were dirtied with blood. But I still wanted more.
“Are you okay now?” he asked me, his eyes were fixed on my face.
“Yes,” I said slowly.
“Sometimes I do that too,” he explained with objectivity. “When there’s really no other suitable prey.”
“I never thought you’d do that,” I confessed him, after offering him an extensive gaze.
He asked back.
“What?”
“To have to eat a rat,” I answered, still looking at his face.
“It was strange in the beginning to me too,” he explained naturally.
Silence came over us and it seemed to trouble us.
“Why are you here?” I asked confused.
“You need to return to Neptune,” he said hoarsely.
My head shook kindly.
“I won’t go back to Neptune...” I said penetratingly. Really I was decided not to do it. My permanence in Neptune was really over.
“You’re in danger if you remain here among humans,” he insisted with an apprehensive voice. But I didn’t pay attention to that. I was truly secure about my convictions of life.
“I know how to protect myself from them.”
Eros didn’t put aside his sarcasm after that.
“So much you know - you were almost shot!”
Taking that into consideration, I stared toward the sound of his voice. This time my face looked full of worry. The vampire was right, but I pretended not to lose sleep about it.
“I don’t want your protection,” I claimed.
Eros frowned at me as he was very serious. Then he finally said with a hard voice, “I didn’t come here to protect you.”
“What are you doing here then?” I asked, looking incredulous at his words.
He seemed to be fighting to hold his attention on me. But his voice continued saying.
“Your father expelled me from planet Neptune after your departure.”
Eros was now staring thoughtfully out the open window. The landscape away looked to sound tranquil.
“He did that?” I shook my head, compressed my lips and wrinkled my forehead with great deception. I was worried about the situation Eros was now in. Soon, I ended up asking him. “Why did he do that to you?”
“He did that because he thought you came back to Earth for the sake of getting me.”
Eros turned his head back to look at me. Our eyes ended up gazing at each other.
“Even though it was true... he hasn’t any right to expel you from Neptune,” I said furious and annoyed at my father.
“He disagrees with the idea that I don’t satisfy the feeling which you have for me.”
“It’s not your fault.” I stared into his gray eyes with more force.
“Your father doesn’t see it like that,” he confessed.
“I need to talk to him,” I said, anxious while my mind wished to transport me to Neptune and talk with my father.
“Don’t do it!” he said with his predominant voice. Eros was full of pride and that moment made it very clear.
“He needs to accept you back in Neptune,” I said.
“I won’t return to Neptune,” he said seriously and his hard gaze ran aside.
“Where will be you then? Will you live on planet Earth? You yourself just told me it’s too dangerous for our kind,” I said to him.
“I have no other place to go.”
“No, Eros... I don’t agree with my father.”
“He won’t listen to you! He doesn’t listen to anyone,” Eros said firmly.
“Neptune needs you and my father, too,” I declared sweetly.
“And you... you do not need me?” He just stared sensually into my gray eyes.
But I looked away, staring at the floor. My cheeks became ruddy. I didn’t know how to control my timidity before his most recent question.
“I don’t know...” I declared, shaking my head at myself, my eyes remained fixed on the floor.
Really I did need him, but it would be in a manner of which he could never favor me.
Then, all of a sudden, my eyes rose up and I noticed our faces were so close.
“Why don't you know?” he asked, now standing before me.
I could feel his cold breath against my cheek.
It was the opportunity I had to realize a lingering kiss that I had dreamed of for so long. But I had no courage to accomplish it.
“I... am confused,” I said, staring at his pale lips that I so craved.
His lips were all I wanted at that moment.
&nbs
p; “I need to go away...” I said and turned my body to the side and he wasn't face-to-face with me anymore.
My cowardice act turned him away from me.
“Take care!” he said, staring at me as I was going toward the front door.
“You, too,” I said with determination and continued moving in front, in my dark clothes.
Yes, I was safe. After all, I had much more powers than him.
I was the ‘Vampire Princess’ that is, the daughter of the most powerful vampire in the universe.
CHAPTER 12
The next morning, when I walked in the direction of the kitchen for breakfast, my mother was holding her cup of coffee. I sat down at the dining table and imagined I would have to taste something on the table. Maybe some fruit or milk.
Minutes later we heard a ringing coming from the front door.
“Who could that be?”
My mother rose from her chair and walked on to open the door and I looked to her during it. At this second I was holding a piece of bread and butter.
When she opened the door, a policeman was standing on our front porch. My mother squeezed her forehead at him and the policeman perceived that. So he smiled shortly to her.
“Good morning, ma’am!” he said.
“Good morning!” she said, looking back at me, not knowing what was happening.
Why was the policeman at our front door?
Immediately I stood up and took a step toward my mother, standing beside her and held her shoulder, trying to save her from harm. I felt I had enough powers for that. I was a vampire. That policeman would never be stronger than me. Not even.
“I have warned everyone about a black panther,” finally he said.
“Panther?” my mother asked, startled, but she also looked softened, imagining that nothing awful had happened to me to point of bringing a policeman to our door.
“Yes, ma’am. Someone saw that wild animal in the forest. That animal probably killed our workmate,” he informed.
I lowered my face as he was referring to me. In that instant I feared he could suspect I was that Black Panther and now he was facing her.
