He brought his hand around, sliding it inside my panties.

“Oh...” I held onto the door for support.

“You’re going to have to do better than that, sweetheart.” He swiped his finger along my slit. “Is this what you wanted?”

“Yes.” My response was breathless, weak.

“You don’t sound very convincing.” He spun me around. “I need you to convince me that this is the right thing.”

“I don’t know if it’s the right thing.” When I touched his lips with my fingertips he closed his eyes. “I don’t do this sort of thing, but I want to with you.”

“I tried to resist you tonight.”

  “I noticed.”

“Don’t take it personally.” He pressed my fingers to his lips, kissing each one and making me fall for him a little more. “It’s been a long time since I’ve had a one-night stand. I don’t think it should be with you.”

  Ouch.

“Then why don’t you let me leave?”

“I want you.” He brushed his mouth along mine causing me to tremble in his hold. “I don’t want you to go.”

“But you just said I’m not the one you want to have a one-night stand with.”

“You’re not.” He gripped my chin. “I already know we’re going to have more than tonight.” He pushed me against the door, tilting his head and pressing his lips to mine. The connection was long, deep and sexier than any kiss I’d ever experienced. I grasped his biceps, trying to steady myself but the tighter I held the harder he kissed.

“I’ve been waiting for you to do that all night,” I said when he broke our contact.

  “Was it worth the wait?”

  I nodded.

“Is the kiss all you wanted?” His firm body molded along mine, trapping me between him and the door. I couldn’t escape if I wanted to. “We could meet for lunch in a few days and see where this ends up.”

“We could do that,” I agreed.

  “You have my number.”

“I’ll give you mine.” I licked my lips, tasting him on my mouth. “After.”

“After what?” He kissed me again, lingering against my lips.

“After we do what we both know is inevitable.” I slipped off my shoes before slowly turning around and lifting my hair out of the way. “Will you help me with this?”

“Are you sure?” he whispered into my neck, grazing his stubble along my skin.

“I have a feeling we both need this tonight.”

A boldness took over when he lowered my zipper. After I cleared my mind of any expectations of what could happen between us beyond today I realized I could do this. A hot man who obviously wanted me. How could I pass this opportunity up? I couldn’t.

After my dress hit the floor, I turned to face him, trying hard not to lose my confidence. His slow gaze wandered down my exposed body.

“You’re perfect.” He took my hand and led me over to the sofa across from his desk.

Running my lips along his jaw, I reached for the buttons on his shirt. As we kissed he took off his shoes and socks. Once I had his shirt undone, I pulled it from his pants, slipping it off his muscular shoulders. He tugged his t-shirt over his head, revealing the most defined six pack I’d ever seen.

“Work out much?” I gawked at his impressive form.

“I do my part.” He smirked as he unclasped the front of my bra. “Flawless,” he mumbled as he stared at my breasts. “Incredibly flawless.”

The sight of him made me want to do intimate things that I would never initiate. Tonight was about new experiences. Being bold and fearless. I unbuckled his belt before popping his button and lowering his zipper. Once his pants hit the floor, I dropped to my knees. He gazed down at me, the desire in his eyes evident. As I leaned forward, I tugged his boxer briefs down his solid thighs, revealing his grand length. Did I expect anything less?

Taking a deep breath, I grasped him in my hold. He moaned when I swirled my tongue around his tip encouraging me to explore further.

“Faith.” He took my face between his hands. “Oh...”

I moved my head forward, taking as much of him into my mouth as I could handle. Working with the thrusts of his pelvis, we set a quick and steady pace. I cleared my mind, concentrating on his erratic breaths and low groans. A slow burn engulfed my core, igniting a frenzy of lust throughout my system. I sucked harder, gripping him tight, wanting to get him to scream louder. My name tumbled from his lips. Me. The quiet, shy girl who would never approach a hottie like him.

“Sweetheart.” He pulled away from me, leaving me a bit stunned. “Don’t be so shocked.” He extended his hand and helped me from the floor. “If I let you keep that up we’d be waiting for me to recharge.”

“Oh.” I smiled as a sense of pride came over me. “I don’t mind waiting.”

“That’s very sweet of you.” He gently pushed me onto the couch. “I’d like a taste of you now.”

My nipples hardened and my insides tingled with anticipation as he rid himself of his pants and boxers. Joining me on the couch, he positioned himself between my legs, sliding my panties to the side. “We’ll leave these on for now because once they’re off I won’t be holding back.”

I sat up on my elbows, mesmerized at the sight of him. He bent his head down and kissed each of my inner thighs before swiping his tongue along my opening.

“Ahh...” I instinctively tried to close my legs but he held them apart, pinning me to the sofa with his upper body.

“Relax,” he whispered. “Let me make you feel good.”

And feel good I did. I massaged my fingers through his hair as he licked, sucked, and kissed me until I writhed beneath him. When he added his fingers, pushing them in and out in tandem with his tongue he threw me on the verge of an explosion I couldn’t control. Unraveling fast, I yelled out his name as I climaxed. Whoa! It had never been like that before. Blissful, pleasurable and I wanted to do it again. Like right now.

Avery trailed his mouth along my stomach, taking his time to lick and nibble his way to my breasts. He took my nipple into his mouth, biting down as he squeezed the other in his firm hold. I hitched my leg over his hip, rocking into his erection. His intense gaze burned into my stare. Our words were unspoken but we both knew what the other wanted.

“I need to get to my wallet.”

  “Okay.”

He stood, fumbling around for his pants. He walked over to the door and turned out the light but the buildings and street lights from outside gave us enough illumination to properly see one another. He came back to the sofa, sat and sheathed himself in the latex. When he returned to me, a chill coursed through my system. He hooked his fingers on either side of my panties and glided them down my legs.

“Are you okay?” He cupped the side of my face in his palm. “Be honest with me.”

“I’m fine,” I told him. “I just, well, if you could go slow that would be good. I haven’t done this in a while and with only one other person.”

“I can go as slow as you need.” He laid me back, propping me against the throw pillows.

“You’re not turned off by my inexperience?” God! Why am I being so chatty?

“It will give me time to savor you.” He covered me with his warm, taut form. “Enjoy every moment we’re together.” He hitched my leg over his hip as he pressed his mouth to mine. With one deliberate move he delved deep inside me. “Damn.”

I held onto him as he moved against me. His actions were slow and precise. He lifted up and supported himself on his forearm, looking between us, watching as he disappeared inside me.

“To think I almost sent you away tonight.” He kissed me again. “What a fool I would have been.”

Placing his hands on my waist, he lifted me into a seated position, never breaking our link as he skillfully thrust into me. Throwing my head back, I bit my lip as he kissed my chest. I held onto him as he lifted me with each powerful upward motion. The crest began someplace deep within me. My breaths turned to pants
and any sounds came out in soft, muddled pleasure.

He stilled inside me, looking into my eyes. The intensity in his gaze startled me. It was as if he stared past me, into a personal space that I didn’t know was penetrable. No one had ever looked at me that way before. It was passionate, erotic and definitely something I wanted him to repeat long after this encounter had ended.

“What do you see?” I didn’t know why I had asked. Perhaps the answer I sought would help me figure out what was going on between us.

  “You,” he simply stated.

Then I realized that was what I was seeing too. Him. Just the two of us. No complications, no expectations. Right now. Totally in sync.

He increased his tempo, diving deeper and harder with each thrust. A thin sweat coated my flesh as a warmth built in my stomach, radiating lower until...

“Avery!” I cried out as I quivered. This climax wasn’t as extreme as the first. It was calmer and slower to achieve. It lasted longer, making me shiver as I rested my head on his shoulder. “Mmm...”

“Stay with me.” He tangled his fingers in my hair and lifted my head so I could look into his grinning face.

“Don’t let go of me.” I tightened my hold on his hips with my legs.

  “That’s no longer a possibility.”

He sucked my bottom lip into his mouth before initiating a sensual bond. As we kissed, he tensed in my hold. His magnificent body stiffened for a moment and then he let go. Kissing more abruptly, tugging at my hair and keeping me close to his chest. His heart pounded hard against me. I smoothed my lips along his jaw as he dug his fingers into my back.

Tilting my head with his grasp in my hair, he released his hold, massaging my scalp. There was nothing sexier than a tender man. One who knew how to bring it and then how to tone it down. Was it possible that I could be addicted to him so fast?

“I remembered you right away tonight.” He smoothed out my hair. “I also recalled you came to my house for a dance. We spoke for a few moments before you left.”

  “You remembered that?”

“You didn’t want to go but your friends made you.”

I nodded, trying not to relive those awkward teenage years.

“I thought my brother was going with the wrong girl.” He laughed. “I texted him that night and said he was stupid for not choosing you.”

“If he had that would have made this awkward.” I kissed him. “I had a crush on you back then.”

  “I’m sorry I didn’t know.”

  “I was a kid.”

“You’re not a kid now.” He shook his head. “Definitely not.”

“What do we do now?” I asked because I wasn’t sure what the protocol was when the explosive sex was over.

  “In terms of?”

Shit! I’m going to screw this up.

  Avery

She looked nervous. Like she wanted to bolt but I wasn’t going to let that happen.

  “Give me a second.”

I hurried into my bathroom and disposed of the condom. Quickly washing my hands, I thought for a moment. My biggest fear when I opened the door was that she would be dressed and ready to leave. Could I let her?

When I stepped back into my office, she was right where I had left her. Probably freezing too. Grabbing my suit jacket from the back of my chair, I draped it around her shoulders. I threw on my pants and settled on the couch, positioning her between my legs and wrapping my arms around her. I rested my hands on top of hers, lacing our fingers together. Her hair tangled at the ends and makeup had smeared beneath her eyes, but she was just as remarkable as she was when she first came into the club.

A calmness had taken over me. One I hadn’t experienced in a long time. Maybe James was right. Perhaps I did need a distraction. Although I honestly didn’t see this as a one-time deal. Faith wasn’t that type of woman. I wasn’t that kind of guy. I hadn’t been for a long time.

“You were right,” she said after a few moments of silence.

  “About?”

  “I did need tonight.”

  “Me too.”

“I need to say that just because you knew me before tonight you shouldn’t feel like you owe me anything. I get that you’re going through your own stuff and you probably just needed some rebound sex or whatever.” She rested her head on my chest. “I get it. We don’t have to make this awkward.”

“I don’t feel awkward and for the record you weren’t rebound sex.”

  “That’s good to know.”

Releasing her hand, I rested mine on her hip. “I still plan on taking you to lunch. I want to get to know you.”

  “You do?”

“I don’t regret what we did because sometimes people have chemistry and the physical comes first.” I ran my fingers up her stomach. “There isn’t anything wrong with that. It was clear we both wanted what happened. Now I’d like to see where we can take this.” I didn’t want to make empty promises but I needed to see her again. She needed to know I was serious.

“I’d like that but you just got divorced. I don’t want you to feel pressured.”

“I don’t.” I kissed the top of her head. “I may have signed those papers today but my marriage has been over for a long time. We just weren’t compatible. I’m not sure we ever were. We grew apart. I knew it for a while but I’d hoped we could work it out. I’m glad we didn’t.”

  “How come?”

“I wasn’t happy and being unhappy is a depressing way to live. I had higher expectations for myself.”

“I hope you fulfill those expectations.”

“I will.” I tilted her head back and kissed her softly. “Don’t over think what we did. We don’t have to go into where ever we’re headed with any expectations at all. We’re both moving in a new direction. You’ve just graduated and I’m single. There’s so much we can explore together.”

“I’d like that.” She turned in my arms and straddled me. “Do you know what else I’d like?” She pushed my jacket from her shoulders and flashed me a seductive smile.

“What’s that?” I glided my hands along her legs and to her hips.

  “You.”

Aroused didn’t begin to describe my current state. I could spout the words all I wanted, but when it came to her my expectations were higher than they’d ever been before. This woman was going to be mine. I’d do whatever it took to make that a reality.

  Chapter Five

  Faith

Opening my eyes, I quickly reached for a pillow to shield the flowing sunlight that came in through the large windows by the bed. My muscles ached and I was still tired but didn’t want to sleep the day away. I smelled coffee in the distance. The aroma gave me a jolt even if I didn’t drink it. The birds were happily chirping outside alerting me that spring was in full bloom. I smiled when I remembered what day it was. Three years ago today my life changed forever. I walked into a club and found a man I didn’t even know I was searching for. To think I wanted to go home before I ran into him. I recalled that exact moment when I realized the handsome man was Avery Giles. A man I had fantasized about when I was in high school. Someone I never thought I’d get a chance with much less spend the rest of my life with.

When I rolled onto my side I spotted him in the doorway holding a tray with breakfast on it. He spoils me.

“Hey.” I smiled as he came into the room, setting the tray on the dresser. “What time did you get in last night?”

“Around three.” He sat on the edge of the bed, stroking my hair. “I wanted to get a few things done so I wouldn’t have to go in today.”

  “Why didn’t you wake me?”

“You were out.” He leaned down and kissed my cheek, resting his hand on my stomach. “How are my girls?”

“Good.” I stretched my almost-nine-month-pregnant body. “Sleepy.”

“The doctor said that was normal.”

“Do you know what today is?” I sat up and leaned against the headboard.

“Friday.” He grinned. “And I have
the day off.”

  “Avery!”

“Of course I know what today is.” He lifted my tank top so he could see my belly. “It’s the three year anniversary of one of the best days of my life.”

“You mean hooking up with me wasn’t the best day of your life?” I giggled when he traced his finger along my side. Pregnancy made me ticklish.

“It was one of them. It ranks right up there with our first official date.”

“That was a good day too.” I recalled the night we’d gone to dinner and a show. Avery had arranged for us to go back stage after and meet the cast. Some of them liked to hang out at Posh so they were more than excited to give us access.
