He slowly shakes his head and swallows hard. “No. I’d felt it for a while, Hope. Without you I felt like my heart was caged in. I’ve never felt like a caged animal as much as I did when you left. I tried to think for the best and look ahead, but I wasn’t moving. I was stuck in place and I didn’t see a way out. It didn’t matter how much I tried, without you, I wasn’t moving.”
“I felt the same way without you.”
“But you came back.”
“I did,” I say with a smile.
“And are you ready for whatever life brings our way?”
“I’m ready for anything with you.”
“I sure as hell hope so, Hope,” he says looking serious once more. I narrow my brows and look up at him hoping he doesn’t have anything bad to tell me. Not today.
“What? What do you mean? Why do you look so serious right now?”
“Well…because there’s a spider right behind you.” It takes seconds for me to scream and leap into his waiting arms. The harsh rumble of his laughter vibrating through his chest.
“It’s probably the same one as before! I told you it was after me and you didn’t believe me! See! That thing has it out for me, Gentry!” Everyone looks at us wondering what’s going on. but Gentry just laughs and spins me around.
“What are you doing? Get rid of it!” I scream louder.
“It’s a little spider, Hope.”
“It’s a huge spider that wants to eat my heart!”
“I’m the only one who gets your heart, baby. Just me. I love you.”
