“It’s not going to work,” I said. “Jaiden’s elements are artificial, and mine have been experimented on, so they’re not pure. They can’t be. You need pure elements for what you want.”
“Ah, that’s where you’re wrong. All tainteds have pure elements, no matter how they’ve gotten them. It’s funny. You’re proud to call yourselves tainted, but your elements are the purest they could be. Having such elements is mankind’s biggest dream. And when I take that precious energy from you... we could power up at least ten cities for two years.”
“You’re not going to get away with this!” I said. “The whole city knows us. They’ll be looking for us.”
“Doesn’t mean that they’ll find you, especially if you’re no longer in this country.” Tamara inclined her head toward one of the men standing behind her and he raised a gun. Two darts shot out of it when he pulled the trigger. One hit me in the arm, and as I glanced down, I could see green liquid draining out of it. My eyelids became heavy, and Tamara’s face was becoming blurry until everything disappeared from view.
