Marty covered Hollis’s eyes and flipped Nina the bird.
Nina called Marty’s behind bigger than the storefront of Macy’s.
And Casey intervened by reminding Nina she knew nothing about the size of Macy’s window anymore because she was no longer welcome at the establishment due to her verbal assault on the man with the pink shirt and white shoes.
Wanda cut them all off by threatening to extract their tongues from their heads and insist they all learn sign language as a form of communication.
Caught up in the fray, Daniel and Esmeralda rocked Alistair Junior, smiling, content.
While Teeny bounced Daniel, always awake long after his brother, she flirted with Clay, Heath, and Greg.
The mob, Delray, Dozer, and their latest stray Juan-Carlo, slept on feet beneath the table while Yancey purred from the interior of the living room.
And it struck Katie.
This was their life. Teeming, brewing, connecting with other lives, paths that might never have crossed if not for Shaw scratching Katie.
Precious lives that had entered unexpectedly but planned to stay for an eternity.
And she’d waited all of her adult life for just this. Her dreams way back when in New York hadn’t been made of this stuff at all. They’d been filled with ambition and material things.
