Bowie

by KJ Dahlen

Bowie, Deke and Hawk fell into step behind her then as they passed, more of the guys walked out of the shed with her. They all ignored the screaming, crying man still cursing her name. Closing the door behind them, they cut off the sound of his horrid voice.

Bowie wrapped his arms around her and for a moment, he just held her. But Shayna shed no tears over the likes of her uncle. He was dead to her, now and forever. She refused to allow him to ever make her cry again. And she thanked god, he finally was out of her life. She thanked him for the gift of Bowie and his brothers to her life. Danny would be safe from this man now. Good riddance.

  Chapter Fifteen

A couple of hours later, the roar of engines could be heard as a group of bikers roared inside the compound.

Hawk and Deke stood together at the door and watched as the riders lined up one by one. They were followed by a lone vehicle. When the dust of their arrival settled, one man got off his ride and joined Deke and Hawk. It was Hawk’s VP, Hammer. He held out his hand to Hawk then Deke.

  “What’s going on?” Hawk asked.

“We found Brody,” Hammer claimed. “He was recovering at his brother’s vet clinic like you told us he might.” The man smiled. “He really didn’t want to come but he did anyway.”

The men turned and watched as Brody was assisted from the backseat of the vehicle. They could see the condition of him and it wasn’t good. The once white clean bandage on his shoulder was now stained dark red when his stitches busted open and leaked blood from the bullet wound he sustained days ago. His face was swollen and bruised whether from the men that took him or from the car flying off the bridge was anyone’s guess.

Brody was still fighting them even with his hands tied behind his back he struggled against their hold.

Wiley stepped up and directed them to around back and the shed to take Brody too.

Hammer turned to stare at him and Deke. “Is he really the one who murdered Snake four years ago?”

  Hawk nodded.

  “He’s gonna face a tribunal?”

“Yeah, he’ll have his day. He has a right to explain why our brother had to die.” Hawk shrugged. “It won’t make a difference in his sentencing but he has that right.”

  “Is the girl still here?”

Hawk grinned. “Oh yeah, she’s still here and will testify at the tribunal. He may not have to face criminal justice but he will face our justice. He has a lot to answer for.”

Hammer turned to Deke. “Can we stay for that? All of us knew and respected Snake and we’d like to be there when his killer is brought to justice.”

Deke nodded and held out his hand. “Of course, you can. This man had a lot to answer for, Snake’s death is only one of the items we have to cover.”

Hammer turned to the vehicle they drove up in. “What do you think of his wheels man? Pretentious bastard that he was, he had a nice ride.”

Shayna and Bowie came to the doorway and Shayna gasped when she noticed the car from Boston. Raising her hand to her mouth, she took a step toward the sedan.

Bowie hauled her back to his side but it was Deke that asked, “What’s wrong?”

She pointed to the car. “That’s Brody’s isn’t it?”

Deke nodded but didn’t look away from her. He had a feeling he wasn’t going to like what she had to say.

“He’s never let anyone else drive that particular vehicle.”

“Why not? Hawk asked. “It’s just a car isn’t it?”

Shayna shook her head. “That’s his mobile office. With that car, he could just pick up and leave town and never have to worry about how he was going to live.”

“What are you saying girl?” Hawk asked with a frown.

“He’s got hidden compartments all over the vehicle. Money, jewels and a copy of all his record books are safe there.” She turned her head to look at Hawk. “He’s even got weapons hidden but at his disposal.”

“The gun he killed Snake with?” Hawk whispered.

  Shayna nodded.

“Show me.” Hawk growled. “I want to shove that gun in his fucking mouth and pull the trigger myself.”

Shayna and Bowie walked down to the vehicle with everyone watching her every move.

Hawk, Deke and Hawks VP followed her. Several brothers from both MC’s crowded around the vehicle.

Shayna opened the driver’s door and flipped the front seat completely back, exposing a hidden drawer. When she opened the drawer, she stepped back as Deke and Hawk came forward to observe what she had uncovered. In the drawer were stacks and stacks of money and a couple of handguns.

She went around to the passenger front door and flipped back the other front seat. Hidden there was another hidden drawer. When she flipped that one open, she uncovered more money and a stack of small notebooks. There was also a gun placed in a plastic bag, along with several velvet bags of all sizes.

Hawk looked up at her. “Is this everything?”

Shayna shook her head. “There’s more hidden inside the door panels and there’s another spot in the trunk. This was the car no one else was allowed to touch. I’m surprised he had it with him.”

Hammer stepped up and gazed at the stuff in Brody’s car. “Oh, I think he was heading out to another town fairly soon. His brother told us we got there just in time. He’d patched Brody up under protest and at gun point. His brother didn’t think much of him and he was more than happy to tell us where to find him.”

Shayna shook her head with disgust. “Yeah, Brody’s nice like that.” She reached inside the drawer and picked up the weapon in the plastic bag. “This is the gun he used on Snake. Why he kept it is anyone’s guess.” Then she remembered something from that night. “Wait...I remember now. He made Jenner take the gun when he wiped his fingerprints off it. He told Jenner that way they both would keep their mouth shut about what happened in that warehouse.”

“So this gun has Jenner’s prints on it and not Brody’s?” Hawk growled.

“Jenner’s prints may be on the gun itself but Brody’s are on the bullets. He was the only one who touched his guns. I remember that a kid... yeah, it was Harry. He tried once and Brody nearly beat him to death.” She shook her head.

Hawk and Deke straightened up and both looked at each other. “What do you say we go chat with this man? I’m sure he has many secrets he wants to get off his chest.” Hawk grinned.

Deke motioned for him to lead the way. When he passed Shayna, he motioned her to join them.

Bowie walked beside her. When they got to the shed, Shayna saw Brody was tied to a chair.

His face was scowling at Sean until he noticed her standing there. His look changed from indifference to pure unadulterated hatred. “Why are you still alive bitch?” he snarled. “What does it take to finally kill you?”

Shayna chuckled. “More than you got, I guess.”

“You did this, you bitch!” Brody screamed. “You ruined me, something I never thought could happen.”

Shayna shrugged. “No Brody, I didn’t do anything to ruin you. You did that all on your own. If Sean had let me leave with Danny, none of this would have happened. Then you made the mistake of coming after me.”

Brody looked around the room and took note of each of the men standing there. They were all wearing a cut of some sort. He dragged his eyes back to Shayna. “Bikers? You had to take up with bikers? What the hell is wrong with you girl?”

Shayna smiled. “Not a damn thing. These bikers have a sense of family that you will never understand. They are real men with honor. Real men who would never think to hurt a girl. Men who value what life has to offer. They don’t tear you down or take advantage of you, instead they will help you if you ask them to. You would never even think to offer your help to anyone without asking what’s in it for you. Do you remember that biker you shot four years ago? You didn’t hesitate or give him a second thought in all this time did you? He had a family, a brotherhood, he had a life and you didn’t care. You pointed a gun at him and killed him in
cold blood.”

  “You can’t prove that.”

“Wanna bet?” she asked him. “I was there. I saw you do it. I watched you blow him away. The bullet you shot him with was never found, was it? Did you every wonder where it went? Did it ever occur to you it was still out there somewhere?” She leaned forward and lifted her shirt slightly, just enough to show him the scar. “That fucking bullet went through Snake’s head then through the box I was hiding behind and ended up in me. It’s still there and soon, I’ll have it taken out. That will be the proof they need to hang you with. Plus, they got the gun. You made sure Jenner’s fingerprints were on the gun but you know what Brody? You loaded it. Your fingerprints are on the bullets in the chamber. You’re blackmail against Jenner won’t work anymore. He’s gonna pay for what he did to Suzy and Robin and however many more girls over the years.” She lowered her shirt and stepped back.

Bowie wrapped her up and held her close while Deke stepped forward. When Hawk joined him, Shaya turned and together her and Bowie moved to the wall and watched as the MC’s got together and called out Brody crimes then called for a vote.

One by one, each member there called out his vote, even Bowie called out his. As she wasn’t a member, she didn’t get a vote but that was fine with her. Shayna was tired of living with this fear every day. She had found something more with Bowie and she wanted that new life, for her and Danny.

She stared at the floor until Brody stared screaming again. She looked up in time to take note of what Brody was saying.

“You can’t do this. This is not a court of law! If you kill me, you’re as guilty as I am. You can’t do this. This is murder any way you fucking slice it. You’re taking the word of a whore, a fuckin thief and a whore!” Brody screamed as men from both clubs walked his way.

Sean just sat there his eyes wide open as they announced both men required nothing less than death for their crimes. He didn’t say a word when they untied his arms long enough to stand him up and tied his hands behind his back.

Brody fought the procedure all the way. He tried to hold out having his arms taken behind his back but they did it anyway. Then one of the brothers tied a gag around his mouth. He fought the whole way but in the end, it didn’t matter. They still dragged his ass out the door.

To where... Shayna didn’t want to know nor did she care. She turned her face into Bowie’s chest when they pulled the two men out of the shed. After they left, the room grew quiet. She looked up at Bowie and asked, “Do you want to go with them?”

“No.” He shook his head. “I don’t need to be there when you need me here.”

“Thank you,” she whispered as her lips met his.

“Did you mean what you told Brody?” he asked quietly to her lips. “About us bikers?”

“Every word. I’ve never met a finer bunch of guys before. Yeah, you’re scary with your size and tattoos, and those huge, loud bikes you all ride... and I really wouldn’t want to piss any of you off. But you told me you had my back. That I would be safe with you, both me and Danny. I think I finally believe that.” She paused as she smiled suddenly. “If I belong to you, then I suppose you belong to me too.”

He gave her a wink. “I belong to you, huh?”

She nodded. “If you don’t believe me... maybe I will just steal you in the middle of the night. I’m good like that, you know?”

Bowie stared at her for a second then he laughed. “You stole me already, little girl. And I have no plans of letting you leave me.” He wrapped his huge arms around her and pulled her closer. “You’re stuck with just me for the next fifty years or so.”

“Is that a fact?” she whispered. “Well, I don’t know about that. What if I want more?”

“More?” Bowie frowned. “What kind of more?”

“A house? A family of my own.” She titled her head at him. “Is that too much?”

Bowie looked stunned. “You wanna have my babies? Really?”

“I hated what Brody, Axel and Sean made me do. But I couldn’t leave Danny alone with them. It was like I was his mom. It’s always been my dream to find my love and have a family.” Shayna paused, then licked her lips as she stared at his yummy mouth. “I found the first part and would dearly love to have the second part.”

Bowie pushed his lips to hers, but before their mouths came together, he murmured, “I think I can handle that.”

  About K.J Dahlen

Author of the bestselling, award winning Bratva Brothers and Satan Spawns MC Series...

I live in a small town (population495) in Wisconsin. From my deck, I can see the Mississippi River on one side and the bluffs, where eagles live and nest on the other side. I live with my husband Dave and dog Buddy. My two children are grown and I have two grandchildren. I love to watch people and that has helped me with my writing. I often use people I watch as characters in my books and I always try to give my characters some of my own values and habits.

I love to create characters and put them in a troubling situation then sit back and let them do all the work. My characters surprise even me at times. At some point in the book, they take on a life of their own and the twists and turns they create becomes the story. Of all the stories, I could write I found I like mystery/thrillers the best. I like to keep my readers guessing until the very end of the book.
