Inman’s fangs gleamed in the light. He hissed, “I should be president. The plan should have worked. Now I’m going to kill the president, and I will be president. The Constitution mandates it. I’m third in line, and I already have someone who will kill the Vice President.”

As Inman snapped his head down, determined to bite the president’s neck, Roland Walker ran from the opposite side of the dais. Inman didn’t see him. Roland, a direct descendant of Abraham Lincoln, charged forward as Inman cried out “Sic semper tyrranus.” Before Inman (the would be Booth) could bite, Roland plunged a silver stake into his back, and directly through Inman’s heart.

Secret Service agents rushed President Elder out of the House chamber. William Magnum and Roland Walker, who was coated in blood, charged after the president, ever his defenders. President Elder would need them.

“I think you more than made up for anything that happened in the past,” Magnum said to Roland.

Roland felt better, but he knew nothing would ever erase the past. All he could do at this point was go forward. He turned and ran towards the president, Magnum close behind.

For now the threat had be averted, but Fletcher Turner swam under water for several miles down the Potomac where he was picked up in Virginia by a nondescript truck that took him to a private airport. Unfortunately the temporary flight ban had been lifted a few days before, and it allowed Fletcher to escape.

  Epilogue

Fletcher gazed out the window of the Gulfstream jet, pondering his next move. He was the man in charge now. Beside him sat Claus Grimm. “I think we can work together. Werewolves and vampires have done it in the past.”

“Indeed they have. And I think you will find many in Germany receptive to your ideas. Relations between the U.S. and Germany haven’t been the best lately. We can capitalize on that. And the Vampire Restoration League is intact—it is a better vehicle for world takeover than that crazy Vladimir Lenin. It is still quite strong. Lenin attacked too early, and he didn’t allow the vampire progeny to grow strong; his progeny wasn’t what he thought it would be. We have progeny growing strong in Europe.”

  “Yes we can,” laughed Fletcher.

“Those pesky campaign slogans sometimes mean more than one thing.”

The dark-haired woman with dark skin sat alone on the other side of the plane.

  “Who is she?” asked Claus.

“She is someone who will prove very useful in the future. We can use her against Pierre Leblanc. She can hurt him in ways no one else could. That’s all you need to know for now.”

But they didn’t know Valkyrie along with her new friend, Bridgett, were already on their way to Germany to continue the constant battle against the Restoration Vampires. They were the threat now.

It wouldn’t be long. Fletcher would resurface, for he remained constant, like the evil that fueled Vladimir Lenin for so long. The evil had taken a different shape as it had done so long ago in Eden. Such evil can never be eradicated. It will only evolve and take different form the next time while still remaining the same. Always the same—it is different but still the same. For as long as man survives, so to will vampires, and evil dwells in the hearts of both humans and vampires.
