Rebecca McKetin undertook a study of 400 ice users in 2007, called MATES (Methamphetamine Treatment Evaluation Study). MATES found that 48 per cent suffered from major depression, and 17 per cent had tried to commit suicide. Subsequently, NDARC set up a pilot thirteen-step treatment program called STEPS, which was underway with eighteen participants at time of writing.
